How much of the weight does it really convey?
If the enemies also behave realistically: Aim inaccurately while moving, kneel down for good accuracy, look at you for a second before firing, stay suppressed while you fire at their general direction, go into reactions while getting shot (not a bullet sponge) etc...then giving the player tighter reticule control might actually have made it too easy. Judging by the AI in the demo, this might just be the case.
Still a weird design decision since it tends to give a bad first impression. But it probably works in the full game
