Killzone Mercenary Beta Discussion

The best thing about playing on the first day of a public beta is killing tons of new players who have no idea how to play

Did they announce how many multiplayer maps will be available?

I can't get over how amazing this game controls... it is so damn good. Easy to make subtle corrections to aiming, even without the motion sensor. Acceleration is really good and even the button mapping is smart. It controls better some console shooters.

Well, it makes sense that you can't multitask in online multiplayer lol. I'm sure it'll be possible in SP.

Maybe the game uses up all the Vita's ram, including the memory needed for multitasking

After all it does look amazing. Just downloaded the beta an hour ago, first impressions were :0

Generaly every online game kicks you offline when you minimize the game and start doing other stuff.

Anyhow, people (gafers) need to start up party chats when they're gonna play this game. Sucks playing objective based stuff and not be able to communicate. Sucksin general not being able to chat someway in an multiplayer game.

Technically the Vita doesn't support multitasking. When you press the PS button it pauses the running application.

Well, you should be able to reconnect without restarting the game.

That's a completely different thing, a bug in the beta.

This game is amazing, I'm really expecting some great reviews for it. I'm definitely getting it day 1 but Sony really needs to do some heavy marketing for this game. I'm pretty sure most people don't even know that it's coming out. This game is too good to not be seen and that's just after only playing 1 MP map.

I feel like I must be missing something with all of these positive reviews. I tried it today and yes the graphics are top notch but the control - oh the control. I just can't get used to it and I was able to get used to COD on vita so FYI.

Any suggestions on control adjustment? ALso the gameplay just feels so bland with guys shooting you in 2 secs, rinse and repeat. It just doesn't feel exciting. I want to love this game too - so pissed.

Gonna have to play a little more, since there will be a horde of noobs on now. Couldn't really get into it before, I had difficulty aiming well with those little vita sticks. Killzone's signature weighty aim-acceleration malarkey doesn't help either.

I found that lowering the sensitivity a bit and only going partway on the aiming really helps a LOT.

So, what's the point of collecting Valours? Do you get anything for making a flush or getting them all?

Everyone's mainly playing assault rifles, so all I've mostly been getting is clubs..

You know, i wish it kept scores from an un-completed game. I disconnect so many times becuase crap happens and i just lose my game forever.

Idk, makes sense to have a little for leeway for a handheld console where your network fidelity is potentially mediocre.

Just started playing the Public Beta today. My god the game is beautiful and it has great frame rates.

Sometimes it does feel awkward aiming and attempting to react fast with the VIta's thumbsticks but I have gotten used to them.

This is the shooter the Vita deserved after getting Resistance and CoD, which were garbage. Sadly though this isn't going to be the system seller the Vita needs.

So yeah, played the Beta all day today and im really impressed overall. I do think the mantis is abit over powered especially because it locks on as soon as you hit the firebutton and then auto tracks the target, but it is also allot of fun to use.

My favorite gun so far is the VC39 rifle/STA-12 Shotgun combo. The downside to the VC39 is that it requires charing, but its pretty powerful, shotty is always good to have for close range. Game is just really fun, though I know im going to be tired of this map by the time the game comes out.

Mantys is marked on the radar so you can hide if you see it nearby

The VC39 is the ultimate noob weapon. Sorry, had to say it...

Finally got to play it. It looks great, even better than I had expected, but sadly, it doesn't control as tightly as I had hoped. I love my Killzone, but I don't think the weightiness is fit for a handheld. I also find myself really missing R2/L2/R3/L3, but hey, I'll get over it. One thing I can't get over however, is having to pick up ammo with the triangle button. Triangle should be for switching weapons, ammo pick-up should be automatic. I don't really know what to think of the Vanguard system yet. The spawning system can be really crappy as it often spawns me in the face of enemies or together with enemies, so I hope they'll fix that for launch.

Other than that, it's enjoyable. It's just not the handheld FPS revalation I had hoped for...

It blows my mind thinking about how uncharted golden abyss didn't come with real multiplayer. This beta has proven that the vita is perfectly capable of delivering a multiplayer game that not only plays really well, but also looks great. It's a shame uncharted came without and that resistance and cod are the turds they are. Hopefully killzone will set the new standard and other will follow

Probably didn't have time to implement it before release. I agree though; I think if Bend's next game is another Uncharted, it will probably feature multiplayer as well.

Anyway, is there lots of new blood after the beta went public? I'm thinking of uninstalling this for now, as I've got Spelunky, LBP Vita and Resistance: Burning Skies to play, as well as a backlog of other downloaded games like Sound Shapes, Rocketbird, Puddle, etc. I'm liking KZM online a lot, but don't want it to take up too much of my time before the actual game itself has even launched. Is it out next week? I've got it pre-ordered but cannot recall the release date.

Whats up with the matchmaking? I've never played against people with a similar rank...

I'm in the same boat. Really enjoyed the betas, but now want to hold out for the final release to make it that much sweeter. (Which is September 10th, BTW.)

Is there any word on the digital version getting a discount?

I finally managed to download this (had to clear out the memory card) and I have to say, as a non-fan of FPS's I'm really enjoying it a lot. I get my head handed to me a lot but I still managed to have fun when engaging with other incompetent players, it was especially fun when we all managed to move together as a team...and not so fun when we all got mowed down =P

Anyways, I'm sold on the game and might even pick it up on launch. Hopefully I'll be able to tag a long with some other clueless folks.

How the Vita's battery life hold up playing this? If I pony up for a Vita and this game, do I need to play with the AC plugged in or buy some sort of extended battery pack?

Pretty well for me. I don't have any numbers but my battery levels weren't low after I finished a session.

It's just one map MP.
Get a feel for it.

Yeah, I purposely haven't played much of the beta. I tried it out, thought it was nice, but I didn't wanna burn myself out on a single map with a bunch of people who are either too good or too awful at the game.

Thanks, wonder if 3-4 hours would be reasonable to expect. I don't play MP games much but when I do, I like to sit down and play a few matches.

Remember how boss Logan's Shadow was in multiplayer? Had some supreme maps and a great tactical feel. Huge fan, so I hope they return to some sort of multiplayer-enabled offering on the Vita.

I played this exactly one time and got stuck with people on the other team who apparently have done nothing but play the beta since it came out. Dead within seconds...over...and over...and over...
