Killzone Mercenary Beta Discussion

I should really stop myself from visiting this thread since I don't have a Vita (yet..give me another 2-3 weeks, lol) but I'm enjoying all the impressions you guys are giving. Gonna look at some more videos in a few.

Maybe since tomorrow is my birthday, I'll get lucky and a key will randomly find its way to me....(which would make me go buy a Vita after work, haha)
 
Seriously can't pry myself away from this game. So good.


Here is to hoping they support it with new weapons and maps to keep the economy going. Something like ME3's model would be nice.

I didn't see it

You have to unlock weapons in KZM Sid

You start out with a default, earn credits to unlock stuff
I might have missed it, but it would stand out for me if it's in there

The money takes forever to roll in though, which is a good thing

This would be great. Only having 6 maps to play will get boring eventually. Don't know about ME3, but if this game does well, I hope they bring over and modify some maps from previous Killzone games (or a map to promote Shadowfall).
 
Man,I usually don't care about MP but the impressions and it being a proper console quality FPS gets me hyped.
 
New patch is out.

Patch notes say it includes bugfixes, tweaks to spawning and the pre-game lobby. Additionally you can press x in the respawn menu instead of having to tap.

Yeah I got the email from GG Cambridge about that earlier today. Great to see they take our feedback to heart (for example with the X-button respawn)

It's another test night tonight! Gonn download the update and play a few matches in a couple of minutes. Hope to see you guys around!
 
Man the gameplay in the OP looks great. Seriously hard to believe that it's a handheld pumping out those graphics.

This is only a month away from release, right? Kind of sucks that I didn't get a code, but considering the close proximity of release, it isn't too bad.
 
Do the controls feel more like KZ2 or KZ3. I liked KZ3 for the story but I was disappointed that they tried to CoD the controls. One of the reasons I don't like that type of FPS.

It's hard to explain since the control scheme on Vita is a little bit different than on consoles, because touch is featured as well and has impact on your play style. I have played and finished every Killzone game and played some MP on 2 and some more MP on 3. This feels a bit like a hybrid between 2 and 3, but that's up to you as a player.

The controls on Vita feel responsive, but also weighty. It's a matter of preference which can be customized with your loadout. You can choose for less mobility/more protection armor or more mobility-noise supression/and less protection for a more run and gun COD-style approach if you like. I use the standard sensitivity on the sticks and that works great for the SMG/tranquilizer combo that I roll with now.

So I think due to the customization options you can create your own preferred control/play style in this game
 
I had a bug where I lost my loadouts and would only spawn once at the start of a match.

Deleted and redownloaded, and now it works peachy.
 
The only thing I hate about this is it becomes incredibly annoying when people quit midgame. Can make the games extremely unbalanced

1.02 update is good, but the lack of button controls in the main menu's and black market menu remains annoying to me.

At least we can X-button through respawns now but there needs to be button control in the menus too. It'll probably not happen because I assume Sony wants touch controls to be featured heavily.

Then again they did change their minds on the button use on the Vita UI so I really hope they do patch it in before launch. It's a minor gripe I know but considering how good this beta already is, it would make the final product even more polished.
 
So is the beta over? I try to start the game and it says something like "server request denied" and it won't let me start it up. I also went to the PSN Beta website and says i don't have the permission to access it. Seems sudden if so, because we just got a patch a day or two ago. :-/

Yeah, weird. Shame if it's over. Weird especially since we just got an update. I figured this would run until the open beta started.
 
You can preorder the game now on the EU store. There are two different versions. One has an ISA light machine gun as a bonus, the other Blackjack's briefcase.

Anyone know something about the boni? Which is better? What does the briefcase do? Is the LMG exclusive to preorders and is it good?

Gonna answer my question myself.

Blackjack's Briefcase gives you:
· Double Experience Points boost for 48 hours: All contracts, bonuses and payoffs in Campaign and Multiplayer modes earn you twice the normal XP for two days.
· In-Game Cash Bonus: Pick up a new weapon with extra Vektan cash before you even step foot on the battlefield.

The ISA LMG bonus:
· A powerhouse of a weapon, with plenty of ammo to get the job done… as long as you don’t require any subtlety in your mission.

It seems like the ISA LMG is a preorder exclusive and can't be unlocked ingame.

So we can’t unlock the LMG in the game? the gun was always included in the past Killzone games….

This thread just made me remember that I have Killzone Mercenary pre-ordered from Newegg for $30... from September 17th of last year.

And this game was announced something like three years ago? It's been a long time coming, that's for sure.
