Killzone PS3 - First Pic

Looks fine for a next gen game, however what's so above and beyond what we have seen on Xbox 360 from that pic? In fact I'd really question if that was gameplay as it does have that drawn look to it. But I didn't watch the press conference and maybe they showed gameplay for it.

Some of you have got to be fucking kidding me.

You've got to be kidding me, because the image quality is total shit. It may be some fancy, murky grain filter but I don't like it.

Texture detail, maybe. But the geometry and art look much better, and the lighting looks more realistic and subtle. I like how it almost has a bit of a hand-drawn look to it, compared to the (hate to say it) PCish look of GoW.
I see that more of a art problem then a tech problem.

I like this better than Gears of War. The lighting seems more realistic, the modeling seems more realistic, and the shadowing is softer and more realistic.
And it seems to have much more going on.
And it doesn't have the PC look I loathe. It looks like a console title.

I can't wait to see this running smoothly.

great art - but technically i don't see anything that the X360 shouldn't be able to replicate.

I love the grittyness to it but what is so amazing about those? I mean sure they look nice but not nearly anything special.

I dunno dude. There seems to be a shitload of awesome geometry that would just be normal-mapped or whatever if on the Xbox. And the lighting does look more sophisticated than what we've seen so far in 360 games like GoW.

Looks good but it doesn't look better than gears of war or anything... I'm also kind of scared of this controller and FPS games btw...

It's a render a.k.a "artist's conception" or whatever they're calling it these days. But go on, let's just talk about it like it's realtime.

Honestly, the detail looks good, but I hate that art style. It's like you're viewing everything through a neutral density filter. And I loath that fvcking grainy texture.

Either way, I doubt this is indicative of what the final game will look like. It will surely look better.

EDIT:

Oh wait, there's a video? Where's it at?

I saw the clip of this from the demonstration, and it looks jaw-dropping in motion.
But now I have an even harder time believing it was real-time.

IGN says otherwise, but I want to hear from some of the forum members that were at the event.

Have people forgotten sites like Gamespot exist? :lol

Just watched the video. If this is real-time, then OH MY FUCK

I like its look, but I see nothing that's out of the X360's range. Ultimately it seems like we're just on the "Art vs. technology" debate we've been having for this entire generation. I'm eagerly anticipating Bungie's counter to this. Perfect Dark Zero is irrelevant, since it launches with the system anyway.

As you should, as you should... this is a miracle machine!!!

PS Can't believe it, but it's true the ps3's delivered the sort of gphx I expected. Truly breathtaking

OK I just watched the video of this on gamespot - if that was really what it looks like in game then I'M SOLD ON PS3 and I'm a total n-bot who is still boycotting xbox and ps2 haha.

Btw it's prerendered, artist conception. And I wouldn't call it Killzone "2" just yet............. (hint hint, nudge nudge)
I personally don't see how they'd have a GPU in place yet, but where did you read that it's prerendered? Everyone else is saying it's realtime, as did Sony, no? Or do you mean it was rendered on the dev kit and then played back? Because the dev kits are supposed to be weaker than the system right now.

BTW, no one should comment on this game until they watch that video. Un-fucking-real. PEACE.

It does look most impressively good. It has a more 'real' feeling to it than Gears of War, if that makes any sense.

Cheers,

.

Holy shit if that's real.

Just plain - holy shit.

I mean, it's sort of what I was hoping for out of this coming generation; but if I'm actually getting that. Holy shit.

Pardon me while I go do my best version of Bill Paxton in Aliens now. :P

I call bullshit on the realtime claim.

However, if this is realtime, then X360 is indeed fucked.

Same. I don't want to set myself up for dissapointment, but I don't think this is real-time. Achieveable down the line? Possibly, but this stuff looks pre-rendered. One thing that looked real-time was the FFVII demo, that was indeed impressive. Also, Insomniac's FPS looked shit hot too.

Someone in the DC room who said they were a dev said it was pre-rendered.

Also, after watching the video, I simply don't think it could possible be real time. There's just TOO much detail.

if these shots are unaltered, in-game shots... then holy shit, video games are finally going mainstream.

just imagine what games will look like at the end of next gen....

Very impressive video!

I think some people are overestimating the PS3 vs 360 argument based more on the action than the actual picture quality though. I didn't see anything that looked more impressive than GoW other than the framerate. :) Of course it was much longer clip as well- which was nice. :) Too early in the game and not enough information as of now.

The video didn't seem to have that grainy texture that the screen cap did either. As for the game, that clip made me think of Saving Private Ryan mixed with some combine love from Half Life. Overall very nice cinematics.

That video was amazing. I just watched it - the first PS3 footage I've seen.

BUT - is it something you'll actually see while playing a game on a PS3, or just pretty rendered video?

I've said it before elsewhere, I just don't know how to compare Xbox 360 and PS3 because you don't know what's a rendered demonstration of what might be possible and what's actual in-game footage. For every person who says something's actual gameplay another says it's rendered. Sony and the devs don't make a definitive statement either way.

No doubt though what Sony is showing is on the whole prettier than what MS are showing. I just wonder if in the final products we'll see a difference between the platforms?

If Killzone 3 plays like that though (wasn't 2 already announced on PS2?) then I will want it at launch. 10/10 for impressiveness.
