Killzone Shadow Fall Review Thread

Hearing that the more open level design quickly regresses is probably the biggest disappointment for me. I've always felt Killzone, as a series, really isn't all that great (I don't think Killzone 2 is a good shooter at all, but Mercenaries does some great stuff), but the wider play space and open level structure had me more excited than I would be for a Killzone game.

same here. this is the specific critique that has me worried I wont get very far in the game. I hate strictly linear corridor shooters and was only excited about KZSF because they opened it up.

but if it's only open for half or less of the campaign. then ehhhhhhh

Overall less than I expected/was hoping for. This concludes that neither next gen system has any killer apps that make me want to jump in at the moment. *Hugs PC*

Also Polygon... wow. What a shit site.

This from Kotaku:
Another thought bubbled as I kept neck-stabbing and shooting through Shadow Fall: if this game wasn't so astoundingly gorgeous, I'd be bored out of my skull. It's a cliché that beauty fades and Shadow Fall's pulchritude is no exception. Once the wonder faded, it became clear that the game is a collection of missed marks and recycled design.

Kind of what I was afraid of.

how in the Fuck does this score lower than call of duty ghost? are you fucking kidding me right now??

guerrilla games wtf??

Expected. It's a decent launch shooter that will keep early adopters occupied, until the real games release in the second wave of games.

oh polygon? oh gaf!

its a mans opinion. a man who played the game (you havent!). a man whose opinion really isnt drastically far off from the others that have been published.

He has an Agenda, just like the entire site does for obvious reasons. It's why no one here or who is a reasonable person takes them seriously.

Let's remember how polygon gave the worst note for tlou from the whole gaming press, and how it was funded with ms money, then breathe.

Well, Polygon is doing something right, as far as promoting their own site is concerned.

They've managed to be the most talked about site in the past couple of days, probably gained a massive amount of clicks, and even in this thread, while the game scores an average of 7-8 by looking at the merged OPs, many comments focus on the polygon 5/10 one as if that's the average the game is scoring.

They are proving that there's no bad publicity I guess?

Reviewers have never gotten this series. For better or worse, the mechanics are deep enough that they require someone to put in significant time to appreciate them. Saying that the weapons feel sluggish, that's just missing the point. Movement in Killzone has momentum and inertia. Whether you like that or prefer an arcade, twitch shooter is up to preference, but I'd think at some point you grade a game based on what it set out to do, combined with how you like it. To shit all over it because you don't care for that type of game seems a bit overboard, IMO.

I'm disappointed. No doubt about it. The biggest complaint, though, seems to be that it's generic - a sense I haven't once gotten in the multitude of videos I've seen. So, if that's the case, I feel that I'll be in for a treat.

How soon till Polygon becomes a banned site on Gaf really?

I thought you were probably overreacting, then I read his review, what a joke.

To sum it up:

Hey guys, remember how Killzone sucks?
The story is good, but I couldn't get into it.
I'm not very good at the game.
5/10.

Not a surprising score from ageese, but I am disappointed that Euro and IGN scores are as low as they are. If the mp is like KZ2 I will be happy though.

Forgetting the Polygon score (which I'm sure will be the discussion for the next 20 pages at the expense of looking at the broader picture), it doesn't look like this is blowing anyone else's socks off either. I'm just hoping the multiplayer has some good legs.

I guess average reviews should be expected for launch titles the majority of the time, but I am still very excited to get this.

i know this isnt the right thread, but is madden ps4 still under embargo or something? i really need to see some reviews on that game.

The guy is a massive Xbox fanboy. Really hard to take anything he does seriously.

This was to be expected, Killzone games are average shooters wrapped in great visuals. I'm people that enjoy this franchise will still like it. I bought simply as a showcase game and I think that's fine.

All the demos of KZ:SF were of the open forest level. Shame the rest of the game lacks that non-linear feel. I enjoyed KZ3 more than KZ2, so SF will be a fun weekend type of game. Wasn't a big fan of KZ2/3 MP, so I'm not expecting much out of SF on that front. As expected, it is another good KZ game that doesn't change much.

Sounds like a first-party launch day FPS to me! It stills looks like the game to take home with you, kinda.

Well, maybe that's Battlefield. But still.

Lol at your tag. While i havent read the reviee since im avoidibg spoilers, seems like other reviewers kinda like it

lol at my tag i earned 6 (7?) years ago for having the nerve to try to discuss shortcomings of gears of war? do you comprehend what fallen means?

Because perhaps Ghosts is a more fun MP?

I don't get why it possibly cannot be lower then Ghosts lol.

Perhaps the game is just not that great. Graphically it looks pretty, but graphics aren't everything.

It's crazy to think that 3rd party multiplats like AC4, BF4 will be the best scoring PS4 titles at launch.

Sony done goofed.

Announce Demon's Souls 2 NAO!

Polygon conspiracies?

Shit I have the game and im not going there. Most outlets gave it a 7, polygon justnusesmthe whole scale 1-10. Looks like its just mediocre.

Like Crytek and its flagship series, Guerrilla Games is a master at creating technically excellent but utterly lifeless titles – the 'game' element is seemingly little more than an interactive showcase for its skills. Killzone: Shadow Fall is both ahead and behind the times, with gameplay sadly falling into the latter category.

This quote sums up my experience with this series so far and it sounds as if not much has changed.
