The explosions are the same as they've always been. Realistic looking fire swirling and lighting volumetric smoke. It's incredibly impressive.

I don't really know what you mean about the particles disappearing too quickly. Seemed fine to me and the effects themselves also looked identical.
 
There's no way my old ass PC will be able to play this video so I ask, how does the framerate look in this video? Smooth?

The smoke was never volumetric. The particle effects simply dont look that good anymore. Feel free to do a before and after

Nope. Depends entirely on the circumstances, materials and explosive device used. C4 has quick less pronounced explosions, grenades etc much larger and more prominent.

Certain explosions in BF4 are also shorter span, just like KZ. Eg.

The smoke was never volumetric. The particle effects simply dont look that good anymore. Feel free to do a before and after
I've looked at the highest bitrate versions of all of the footage so far that I have, SP and MP, and, I honestly can't tell a difference. Unfortunately some of the old vids are lower quality so my comparison shots aren't coming out well. The newer vids look like an upgrade, if anything, because of the quality.

Because he's talking absolute rubbish. Wish people would actually do their research and pay attention before spouting rubbish.

Like I said above, the type of explosion and it's life span depends entirely on the type of explosive that caused it etc, same as in BF4 as well. Some have shorter spans than others, but nothing has been downgraded.

Much prefer the new look. Looks more realistic and you can appreciate the character modelling details better too.
 
the explosions look exactly the same as that old MP footage. There was no down grade

They made him look even more like a cat. Just look at those eyes! Or is that a reflection of something?
 
There absolutely is less detail in the new version. Texture res has been parred back. The complete lack of stitching on his 'belt' wrap portion of the outfit around the arm is one such example.

Or they changed the design of it for other reasons. Almost everything on this character looks redesigned, it's not just a quality reduction. And it's difficult to really compare texture detail between these two images because of how much less sharp the newer image is overall (which is due to the video compression, obviously).

Slightly different this time due to the lack of the CELL and the better and easier programmability of the PS4.. but later gen PS4 games should hopefully be emphasizing its compute abilities.

Lol. I guess you missed all the additional details? The zip on his collar, the new buckle clips and straps, metal inserts on his face mask, black gaffa tape wrapped around the tubing, specular highlights on the orbs, metal clips on straps, new folds on the face mask etc?

Not a completely fair comparison, because:

a) Guerilla are clearly much more technically competent than Insomniac. Insomniac are fine, Guerilla are wizards.

b) The PS4 is significantly easier to develop for and get good results on than the PS3. Seeing launch titles reach higher relative quality isn't very surprising.

But yes, of course we will see significantly better looking games in the future. We already know there are loads of optimizations Guerilla simply didn't have time to do with this game, so I'm sure their next PS4 game will be another step up. I'm just not sure the difference, when all is said and done, will be as great as it was going from Resistance to the best looking PS3 games.

Resistance made great use of cell. Lots of shit on screen, good particle effects.
 
My hype for ShadowFall is indirectly double hyping GGs new IP for me...


I just imagining what this engine would like like with a fantasy brawler melee heavy death fest asthetic tied to it ... drooooool...

GG is gonna be fixin shit this gen... i can feel it.
