Kim Wu revealed for Killer Instinct Season 3

I have to give Iron Galaxy their props though, for making a girl who looks more like a pre-plastic surgery Korean, rather than the more uniform, pretty look the media is more used to.

Surely that should get a bit more praise, and not be as marginalized as it seems it is in this thread?

Yeah, her face is totally fine. Less idealism is always a good thing in my book.

She's actually 27 now, and that show the gif was taken from is about 3 years old... and a Fox show, not Disney. Starring Seth Green. Definitely not a Disney show!

Hugely agreed. Technically, her face and model look fine. She's just not crazy over the top good looking.

The character modeling isn't that bad, it's her skin texture ans shader that looks like shit ... It really needs a rework !

Yes and the animations are really stiff. Just look at the video above and compare her to Jago. Jago is smooth, even the idle animation is leagues better. Some stuff is just overdone and with a straight back - she does not look "grounded" in that game world.

I wouldnt be surprised that kim simply isnt done yet, combo looked pretty damn terrible, both animation and texture wise before he got polished up.

Just watched another video and I want to raise this concern again:

She's Korean, why is her stage Chinatown?

Does Iron Galaxy think all Asians are the same?

Kim is 1st generation American, with Chinese and Korean heritage.

Boom. Hammer dropped. Problem solved. Let's move on to the next "bitching" ;)

Hey Adam, are we gonna get some streams soon? I miss playing and talking to you guys on stream (always good times).

Wu is a korean and chinese family name as far as I know.

According to the UC forums (grain of salt, activate!), Kim Wu is half Chinese and half Korean. And she is an American of Chinese/Korean descent, as a result. Her fighting in Chinatown is perfectly fine.

I give props to IG for not making only super models as characters. My main gripe about Kim Wu is her eyes. They're way too close for an Asian and makes her look weird.

Adam please touch up Kim's face before launch.

Sincerely,

Your friend tapedeck.

Man, her character is so obnoxious from the way she talks. She's got some cool moves tho.

I don't know if it's the writing, or the fact that this type of character is kinda cliché, or me being jaded, but yeah, I hate her 'personality'. Same thing with Cinder. They sound way too cocky in a bratty teenager kind of way.

The key with cocky characters is to mostly show their cockiness, not hammer it with corny dialogue. The original Cinder worked because he would strike poses and have a few badass shouts. But as soon you make him (or Kim Wu) chatty they become 14-year-olds with a bad case of too-cool-for-school-itis.

I think, in a way, this is the "should we make Link speak?" problem. Old school Cinder works, because nobody was reeally saying anything back then in any fighting game ever. If you attempt to copy that template today, then the character will stand out as being surprisingly mute. The best you'd likely be able to produce with a decent amount of voice over would be a "smug" character rather than a "cocky" character.

Sonic's also had this problem since he gained a voice too. The character was pretty much always like that (well, as far back as Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog at least), and when you take classic Sonic and stick him in a modern game, he doesn't come across as cocky at all... but rather something closer to "cute".
