Who thought this would be good? It always looked like trash.

I think I've asked this before in another King Arthur thread. I never got why people wanted this.

Why is Hollywood so bad at fantasy movies? Outside Jackson Lord of the Rings, I'm having trouble thinking of any good live-action fantasy films, and the more like "traditional" high fantasy they are, the worse they are.

It's been 14 years since Return of the King and nearly a decade since Marvel figured out how to churn out superhero movies (of all things) like a machine while still ensuring that even the worst of them is at least decent. But fantasy movies are still downright terrible 90% of the time.

It can't be that hard, can it? I mean, fantasy is super popular in other mediums. Clearly there's something there that speaks to people. Why can't they unlock the formula?

This was expected. He had three very fun action films in a row though with the two Sherlock movies and Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Just give me a new Sherlock after Aladdin, please.

I love the legend of King Arthur.
I liked some Guy Ritchie movies.
I don't mind Charlie Hunnam.
Yet I have no desire to see this movie at all.

I thought the Narnia movies I saw were decent. Do those count?

Guy Ritchie has a fan base that holds on to movies he made two decades ago and eats up his other shiet.

I would put M.Night over him any day....sad

The best parts of this movie are the Guy Ritchie-isms mixed with a penchant for full on fantasy fuckery

It is too long and too little of the good stuff as well. But when you get that lock stock/snatch style dialogue that shit is fun. Aiden Gillen in particular really could have done with more screen time. If Aladdin leans real heavy into that Ritchie style for the main character (and maybe give him some friends) then it could be great.

Damn shame at how butchered this movie feels. If this leaned into the really novel concept of Ritchie's take on high fantasy it could have been amazing. The small glimpses you get at that in here are hella fun.

I really hope Aladdin expands on that more

Oh man, I'm not surprised at all. Brad Jones midnight screening review of this film was hilarious though.

He lost it after Snatch to be honest.

Rocknrolla was good & I liked his Sherlock Holmes films to an extent. I also thought The Man From UNCLE was fine.

Besides I get the distinct feeling that this film was heavily done in by the studio at least that's what I'm getting, especially when it comes to the editing.

Wasn't this shelved for ages? He works better with a smaller budget, like a less versatile and less talented Danny Boyle. Most of his films are ok as harmless fun. This one is fairly cheap for a fantasy, reminded me a bit of Chinese fantasy films like the Great Wall.

Charlie Hunnam sucks. Still going to watch this, just going to have to headbutt the wall a few times before it starts I guess.

First 10 minutes are a mess, but the rest is basically a Guy Ritchie film. Still thought it was a lot of fun. Didn't care for the lead, but the supporting cast was solid and made it work.

It's got some crazy action in it. Basically like a mix of Dynasty Warriors for some parts and an RE QTE fight for another.

Was wondering who this guy Charlie Hunnam is that people keep bringing up and apparently it's the lead.
All this time I thought it was Channing Tatum.

Never bought Hunnam as the right lead for this. He's good in some things, but the trailers felt like they are forcing him into it and trying to make it work.

Hunnam just had a career defining role in Lost City of Z so the hate towards him is preposterous.

I'm sure he's shit in this but I wouldn't exactly put that on him specifically.

The reviews aren't too hard on him specifically. Some seem to count him as a positive. It seems like the editing and needless CGI are more at fault.
