For me it's a good beer to bring to a house party of people I don't really know. I don't want to walk into a house bringing nothing and I don't want to bring a 12 of some weird import/domestic beer that no one else will try or like.

It's the same reason I would bring a Riesling or a Merlot over to a dinner party. It's a safe bet and someone will drink it.

I don't know, I always see that as the perfect opportunity to turn people on to craft beer. Nothing like showing up at a party with a good Belgian White beer, telling people it is similar to Blue Moon, and watching their heads explode.

My cheap beer of choice is usually Labatt Blue. Maybe once a year I'll get the feeling to get a pack of Budweiser.

My go to beers lately aren't anything special though. I usually drink Magic Hat #9 or Smithwicks.

I do drink a bunch of different craft beers but for some reason I can't seem to develope a taste for IPA's. I love a good Porter, Stout, or Red but the IPA's seem it elude me.

That's cool.

In my experience, the guy who brings the craft beer is carrying his six around all night and protecting it like it's liquid gold. Dolefully handing out small sips to people that are curious. Or he hides it in the back of the fridge, because god forbid everyone drinks his beer and he's left drinking the piss water from the keg.

Best beer?

That being said, I'm not above drinking a PBR or High Life every now and then. Just depends on the situation/what you're eating/etc...

Can you hook me up with some? Been looking for this forever.

Haha... NOTHING turns a party off to your beer like bring Ten Fidys for people to try. I don't have to protect anything - they just won't touch it.

But these were also people who thought La Folie tasted like soy sauce.

Honestly, I bring extras if people wanna try stuff. I encourage it... I just don't get sad if they don't. In due time they'll find something they like.

Shit, I only go to parties where everyone brings craft beer and no one cares who drinks what.

hahaha good luck with that. I'll keep drinking my own countrys beer. Well I drink more white wine than beer anyway.

Plus this isn't even the real Budweiser.

Beer Mecca = Ft. Collins, CO

Three great micro-brewers (if you can call them that) plus a Budweiser brewery.

Budweiser isn't bad though. You can't drink heavy beers all day every day.

Yep. I'l enjoy my box of cheap beers.

Instant refreshment and a good feeling of joy comes a few minutes later.

see, the myth is two-fold here

myth A - all people who prefer craft beer are beer snobs

myth B - good beer is never "cheap"

both false

The real myth is that most beer snobs drink craft beer.

Find your average Bud or Miller drinker, and they will swear up and down that the other one is piss and their preferred brew is so much better. There are a lot more of those folks than there are drinking imperial IPAs.

I drink almost exclusively craft beer but these cheaper beers have their place. I'm not going to start drinking 7%+ beers at a 1pm ball game. These lagers and cerevezas are good for summer time and beach drinking.

There are plenty of low ABV craft beers, though. Saisons seemed to be all the rage last summer.

I wish I could filter out IPAs. I just can't believe that the people who enjoy them are tasting the same thing I am tasting.

I was the same with IPAs until I realized I shouldn't be drinking them ice cold. Once I started having them at cellar temp (~50 degrees) it was like a light switched on.

I'm a huge pale ale fan. Bud is pretty gross but I can drink it.

Sierra-Nevada Torpedoes at 7.2% are some of the best tasting beers available at most every liquor store.

I recommend http://beeradvocate.com/ for all lovers of beer.

lately i find their founder to be a righteous dick

if you think mods here are harsh. at least here it's fair and not immature petty revenge bans.

Quite honestly I know nothing about the site and don't really talk on the forums. I just go there for community reviews. On any site like that you can tell even some of the reviewers are righteous pricks but many are good people.

yeah, i'm trying to do that too cause it's a useful tool, but other beer nerds, swear that BA is not the best site anymore

Hmm, maybe I need to try that.

Yeah, ice cold might not be the way to go. That is mostly for lagers. About the temp you would get them out of a normal tap at a good bar. A basement or cellar temp slightly cooler than room should do. Fridge is fine but I find them better when slightly warmer.

Good to see Bud failing, if only because their beer sucks and tastes like piss and costs more than the rest of the bottom shelf beers at the supermarket.

Costs more? Where do you live?

I live in NYC, which is expensive. I can buy water cheaper than Bud.
There is NO beer cheaper than Bud here.

I'm curious, what brands are cheaper?

It's been a while since I've had a Budweiser anything. But living in Chicago, there's so much amazing craft beer available, and a ton of it is barely more expensive than crap-tier stuff anyway, so why not shell out the extra $2 and enjoy what you're drinking?

Also, I disagree with the notion that craft beer can only be enjoyed by beer snobs and that "regular" people can't get into it. If I bring around a good Golden Ale or a Hefeweizen or a Pale Ale, odds are everyone's gonna dig it. Just because the craft beer internet crowd deifies Imperial IPAs, 12% Stouts and Quads doesn't mean that's all there is.

And the oft-mentioned Zombie Dust is actually a great example. It's only, what, like 6%? Not strong at all and it's goddamn delicious.

EDIT: Oh, and my current beer crush is also pretty palatable: Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Mmmmmm.

Finally caught on it's no longer an "American" beer, eh? Stuff was always terrible unless mixed with copious amounts of tomato juice anyhow. Is probably for the best.

If I go to a party or function and see someone drinking Budweiser, I immediately lose all respect for them.
