Kingdom Hearts GBA, who's getting it?

Damn, I'm level 29, on Floor 6, and I have 87 Map Cards (of just about every level) without ever getting "stuck" waiting for a specific level card.

BTW, how many floors are there?

KHCOM is badass game

Cards are confusing at first, then become fun fun fun when you start getting better shit

Don't like how doing combos erases your cards, though. Artificial difficulty is sucks

I like everything about the game except the stupid Cardkey system. I'd rather do fetch quests or something than this nonsense.

Cool, I'm on floor 7, and about 10 hours in. This game is much longer than expected. And I hear a rumor of a totally different 2nd quest once you beat it? Rawk.

Dormer beat it in 20-ish hours. I'm at the last battle and after 15 hours, though I've lost all ambition to finish the game.

The second quest is more much streamlined, as (design spoilers)
it has less boss battles and the levels are shorter.

I already beat the game with Sora. Now I'm
playing as Mickey Mouse and God he's so bad ass. The game is also pretty different and gives better insight into the whole situation. Awesome.

On a whim, I decided to finish up Kingdom Hearts tonight. The last few boss battles weren't neccesarily tough, but definitely time consuming, especially the last. And now, now I'm playing as
Riku, and I'm fairly confident it's the real Riku.

Quite exciting. I dig the changes they made for the second quest, it really helps to keep the game fresh.

It definitely doesn't totally suck. The card system works well in battles, but can be annoying when getting through the dungeons. Since you spend 90% of your time in battle, this is a minor issue though. Really, it's a must if you are a KH fan, and a better than average GBA purchase even if you are not one.

Yea, it's definitely worth playing through if you're a Kingdom Hearts fan. I didn't think it'd be too hot, especially after the WTF-inducing E3 demo, but I'm pleasantly surprised that I've sunk over 20 hours into a portable - making it my most played handheld game of the year.

PROTIP: If you get stuck in a dungeon, just use a 0 card.

0 cards do not work if you are trying to open up an "=" door, and the number isn't 0.

Well, I'm 26 hours into the game, just started floor 12, and have attained level 70 with Sora. I LOVE this game, and was NOT a fan of the original.

That, I think, is recommendation enough.

It's one of the GBA's absolute top ARPGs, imho, and it does a good job at filling a gap in the GBA library. Just not enough quality ARPGs.

Point. It's been so long that I almost forgot the frustration I felt towards those latter dungeons - it's a good thing you reminded me, otherwise the review would have been absolutely glowing.

Hi. Quick KH1 question.

Please tell me that I haven't broken my game just now.

I'm in the Deep Jungle and have defeated Clayton. Kerchak then picked me up and heaved me up to the high ledge. I (perhaps foolishly?) jumped down to head back to camp and save. See, I thought I'd be able to climb the green foliage on the cliff wall, but apparently, I cannot. And the closest high ledge is still too far away to make the jump back onto the cliffs that Kerchak threw me too.

Is there any way to get back up to the ledge and the Waterfall Cave?

Thanks in advance.

I can't get over how much better KH:CoM looks on DS over GBA. What a difference the lighting makes.

As for your problem Meijlan, I really can't help. It's been a while since I played it, but don't tell me you haven't been keeping multiple save slots...

I never keep multiple save slots. Not even when playing Ubi's finest! ;p

I got passed that part however. There are stepping stone like things that Sora can grab onto and vault himself over. I had tried those numerous times, of course, but the game's wonky as f-ck platforming and ledge/collision detection defeated me, so I figured those rocks were just part of the scenery.

Agrabah is pretty freakin' cool. Of course, that'd make it the only cool world so far, aside from perhaps Traverse Town.

Pretty game, that does not deliver.

Pro: License, Graphics.

Con: Button mashing combat system, disguised as strategy. Rehashed minimal story. Repetitive.

Avoid this game, unless you are a diehard Hearts fan.

Button mashing combat system? You haven't played it long then.

You would be right, I went through 5 'worlds' (total play time about 5-8 hours) then quit. The only time I had to think about what I was doing was for the enemies that had the capability to block ... then I would just use a special card.

But besides that, combat was all button mashing (and I was still effective). The game tried to be a balance between an arcade beat-em up / strat game. It's oil and water.

Maybe the incredible graphics, and unique licenses can help you overlook its flaws, but I couldn't get past them.

I'm near the end of the second character's story and button mashing has worked just fine. The only exception has been a single boss battle. For both characters I needed to use a little strategy in that battle and button mash the rest. I'm not complaining because I like the series a lot.

I'm still working on the first story path and I think I'm nearing the end,
but I'm stuck on the second Vexen battle. I know fire is his weakness but I'm short on fire cards and my deck is running out fast. I have 1000 CPs to make a deck out of, but for most regular fights, I've thrown about six Cloud cards in my deck, which is enough to beat the crap out of anything else.

But Vexen is always card breaking my attacks, its a pain in the ass. What do I need to do here? Level up more? find more 9s and 0s?

Right now, I'm stuck on
Riku for the final time. It's insanely hard, he breaks your attacks constantly, has a ton of HP, and he has this "dark swipe" sleight that hits you multiple times...you need to use your 0 cards fast.

This post by belgardo perfectly sums up how I feel about the game. The game is NOT a button masher after you get further into it! I am at the 12th floor(Twilight something) and have a BADASS deck involving mostly magic and item cards. I hardly ever use regular attacks now! It's all in the cards man :)

Still haven't beaten Hook, and I'm not going to bother either :lol

Hook was the easiest boss in the whole game! What are you talking about? Hook was NOTHING compared to Parasite Cage or that Beauty and the Beast bitch!

I think it just depends on your playstyle - I had no problems with the Parasite Cage, but Hook took a few tries to defeat.
