I don't think it'll get quite that crazy, but then again this is Kirby we're talking about.

This was the best non-Super Mario Maker thing on the Direct. Giant Robot Kirby looks insane in a good way, plus many of the powers look very funny and creative. I like Kirby but don't really buy Kirby games, but I will definitely keep an eye on this one.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
Kirby Robot Mode = Super Easy Mode.

meh.

Or you know, a puzzle element rather than an "easy mode". I mean seriously, Kirby is that game where almost everything is one shot.

I remember those days when you actually could die in a kirby game; Nightmare in dreamland, superstar, amazing mirror...

You were just a kid back then. Try playing them now - they're surprisingly easy and short. AM just has a bonus of being a big dungeon.

This game combines my two favorite things: Kirby Triple Deluxe and fighting mechs. And then it combines them again with copy abilities. Doctor Mech Kirby will be glorious. Administering high doses of VITAMIN-D-STRUCTION. I'm ready for some epic GAF Kirby Hunters groups, too.

Unfortunately it seems Mech Kirby won't have copy abilities for all of Kirby's. I hope Dr. Mech is in though.

Well, I have to at least get that Waddle Dee.

It's hilariously cute. Especially the picture behind it where his pose is just...being there, lol.

Neat. Kirby's Dreamland was the first video game I was actually able to beat. (Although it was apparently designed to be easier than most games.)

Misread as Return to Dreamland and felt very old. KDL was one of my first games but I don't remember if I beat it at the time. Dedede was tricky for a little kid. 😅

Wow, okay. I hope this is stuff that could be purchased from the eshop.

Don't count on it. AFAIK no cosmetic amiibo additions have been made available for separate eShop purchase as of yet.

...Well whaddaya know!! I never did play Mass Attack. I did play Return to Dreamland but don't remember that at all, lol.

Well, you gotta play it. It's amazing. Extremely clever and surprisingly intuitive stylus controls.

The only thing that's remotely difficult in Kirby games is the True Arena, which is something only the post-Superstar Ultra games have.

No way. Plenty of the post-game challenges in Kirby games are super tough, and the main games of Canvas and Rainbow Curse and Mass Attack offer some significant challenge as well.

I'll try and replay them. What you said is true but i kinda remember them being more punishing than nowadays, stages with a lot more hazards and intricated paths, etc.

awwww

shoulda been a helper like the fairy in crystal shards

Rule of Kirby - either the cute helper character's the villain, or the villain's just misunderstood or possessed by a giant eyeball

Oh yeah, the non-traditional Kirbies get pretty brutal, but the regular ones were never tricky outside of post-game stuff and the True Arena is the only thing I've outright not been able to beat in some cases. Don't think I ever got to the end of RTDL's

I'm a bit sad this is not some weird, wacky spin off, but eh. You can't have too many Kirby platformers anyway, and this one looks superb :p

Sorry for this wall of music XD! But Triple Deluxe has one of my favorite Kirby soundtracks coming only after 64 and Super Star.

Maybe because of Epic Yarn and Rainbow Curse, I feel like Kirby needs a new art style. Don't get me wrong, this looks good and definitely fits right into the classic Kirby aesthetic, but I feel like it needs a refresh of some sort.

People like you are why Kirby is piloting robots.

Nah, the mech angle doesn't really work for me, at least so far. I'm not talking about a new angle or gameplay mechanic, I just think Kirby could do with a new art style before this current one starts giving off NSMBs vibes.

Late response but I completely disagree with the bolded.

Kirby has this 'look' that is shared across a lot of games, but it still looks charming. It has personality and is filled with detail.

The NSMB series as great as it is level design and gameplay wise, its presentation really lacks 'soul'. It still has some charm (like the opening of NSMB2, with Luigi running back to grab a coin :D) but it looks stale visually and its music is more annoying then enjoyable a lot of the time.

But that is just my view point on the presentation aspect to NSMB, so I'm willing to be wrong XD.

so famitsu scans are out

confirms Ice Robot power

and Susie is villain apparently

What noooo!

She'll either join Kirby near the end to fight the real boss behind everything or turn into an abomination and die. Such is the way of the Kirby side character.

I wanna get this game at launch but I might just have to wait it out for a sale. I'm a bit curious about something; in comparison to Mario or The Legend of Zelda, Kirby doesn't get a lot of entries, and not all/most of them are platformers, so I was a bit surprised to see a new Kirby game get its own Amiibo line. I love the attention Nintendo's given the IP though.

So this is out in just under 2 hours in Japan, anyone getting it off the eShop as a preload, or picking up a copy?

I'm curious as to how it runs on an original 3DS with the 3D on. The original was 60fps with the odd bit of slowdown (so, essentially, 120fps across both 400 x 240 renders), and Robobot seems to have more detailed backgrounds. So I'm curious!

I also hope this feels sufficiently different to Triple Deluxe despite using the same engine and animations etc. Hopefully the robo mechanics are fully realised and integrated with new puzzles.

Finished the main game, this game is much better than RttDL and TDX IMO. The pace feels faster than TDX. Robot abilities and puzzles are well designed, new abilities like ESP and poison are fun, Smash is kind of overpowered, so
they hide it nicely
. Boss battles are great, needless to say the epic final boss battle(you know the tradition ;D). Though they bring back a few bosses from RttDL and TDX, in the main game and Hunter mini-game. New tracks are really enjoyable and remix tracks are the best presents HAL make for Kirby fans. Really appreciate HAL's work on this game.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

How long does it take to beat the game?

I've only played through the first world so far, but if the rest of the game holds up this level of quality, it will be hands down my favorite Kirby game, and one of the best games on the 3DS. Combines the creativity of the best Kirby games with a slightly more "arcadey" Treasure-esque action flavor. The futuristic setting and music are perfect. I almost wish they'd brand future Nintendo games with this Robobot universe, the same way the exported the Yarn look to Yoshi.
