Kitase: Rebirth ending is “great example” of an “enhanced scene.” *SPOILERS*

Kitase: Remake trilogy is going to stay as close to OG as it can

Also Kitase: find out in Part 3 to know what actually happened! But since we've constantly said that the trilogy will follow OG, Aerith is dead but now it's just way more convoluted and with lots of cheap fanservice.

The game's ending has been one of the most contentious things on GAF, so not sure how well that 'enhancement' went there, Kitase.

Everything will depends on the third game and I still think they can't backtrack their reimagination just cause they need to follow the OG.

The ship has sailed.

I pray we're not in another Mass Effect 3 situation.

As a game Rebirth is fantastic.

Every time I hear Kitase, Nojima and Nomura give interviews on the Remake project, i always get the feeling they still have ongoing opposing views on what the Remake project should be, and i fear its kinda leaked into the final games and fucked the whole project up story-wise. Kitase wants a faithful remake with little change, Nojima wants to do his pseudo-sequel meta stuff with major changes, and Nomura just wants to die. God bless Hamaguchi having to put up with these clowns. The guy just wants to make a kick-ass game (which he did with Rebirth).

The entire team is so unbelievably out of touch. Their way of "enhancing" anything is absolutely awful, worse than George Lucas could've ever done.

AWFUL fucking company.

Uh, sorry Kitase, but Rebirth's ending is hot fucking narrative whiplash garbage. The final scenes are so jarring you are just left confused and frustrated. No where near the simple beauty of Disc 1's finale; where the action and reaction was clear, and the player had a chance to take it in and respond.

I agree with the rest. the third act will decide how Rebirth is looked at. The game by itself is amazing.

That reminds me...

They fucked up the ending of Rebirth.
Why did they cut the scene where Aerith sinks to the bottom? That was the most iconic part about her death...

I fucking love Rebirth and its ending, and I think that if people actually had an attention span longer than the average TikTok video, what happens is extremely and abundantly clear and easy to follow. People are just morons, and I think Square should not dumb down their vision (which has been amazing so far) to accommodate their idiocy

Still debating rather I should play Remake and Rebirth at all... Or just live comfortably with my recent experience of the OG, and my dear party, Cid, Cloud and Yuffie.

The comments are really interesting here and everywhere about both.

I get motivated and demotivated to play it constantly 😂

FF is so lost without Sakaguchi to keep these clowns in place. The way they turned a beloved PS1 classic into some Marvel-like video game universe with a billion entries is just despicable.

I don't think people dislike it because it's somehow hard to follow, they dislike it because it's bad and disrespectful of the original. A lot of us have been saying this since Remake.

I went into Rebirth knowing they were going to fuck up Aerith's death. They were going to make it over the top and bombastic. Which is what they did. But what I didn't expect is how far they would take it, and they took it to a degree that far surpassed what I predicted. They didn't just go Full Retard, they went Ultra Instinct Retardation. They reached the next level. Even if you set aside how it ruined any sort of emotional impact of her death, on it's own merit it's just badly executed. It's one of the most aggressive examples of trying to do too much, to the point where the story suffers for it. It was this 1-2 hour long boss gauntlet that goes on way too long, and sandwiched in between each boss phase are mystery boxes, multiverses, convoluted reveals, and pointless fan service. And it goes on and on and on.

These guys aren't nearly as smart as they think they are, and it's a shame to hear them say all of this. I loved Rebirth but the final two hours are terrible, and I do not expect them to stick the landing with the finale of Part 3.

"People didn't like cause they dumb. Ending good cause many things happen. Make LakeOf9 feel big brain for understanding."

I've mentioned this before but IMO the decision to end Remake at Midgar was mainly to avoid having to decide what to do about the Open World.

Many changes in the remakes are like whatever to me. The game doesn't hit as hard as the original to begin with. And it never would; its not a new story. The positive is that you have no clue where it goes even if you have played the original. The negative is that each entry forces some annoying NPC on you and pads many things out for the worse.

For the next remake, please leave it at 1 game. But I think they will.

Treat it as some sort of semi-sequel or alternate reality and its fine.

The original is the better game, but its ofcourse very dated as well.

It fits with the multiple timelines idea. Like Zack is now in the main timeline so you should expect him to be in the party in Part 3 at some point.

Might give them an excuse to have the party go back to Gongaga.
I hate the Zack stuff too. It's what holds the game back from true greatness.

Isn't Zack in an alternative reality though?

Zack was completely wasted. He starts off good, and then hes almost exclusively used for some walking around to trigger another nonsensical cutscene. And I struggled to find a purpose for Biggs. All I can think of is he ultimately makes Zack decide not to fight his pursuers head on but run.

And then Zack is there because.. yeah well. I can see they wanted to find an excuse to bring him back since he was popular. But the entire purpose of FFVII was that Cloud lived a lie, the memories of Zack in fact. You can guess Cloud will now find out from Zack himself, but I was fine with the original using Tifa for this.

Well Remake was a Frankenstein project that was based off another cancelled game and used UE4 to quickly get the game. It has a very limited scope, it shamelessly reuses assets and has a ton of meandering filler parts to pad out the gameplay hours. So yeah, open world was never going to be part of that. It would require too much effort and time for what they intended.

I'm not sure sucking all the emotion out of the "great scene" and turning Rebirth into FF Kingdom Hearts was a "great example" of enhancing a scene.

Outside of Rebirth's characterization of Yuffie everything else was a downgrade compared to OG FF7.

Kitase wants a faithful remake with little change, Nojima wants to do his pseudo-sequel meta stuff with major changes, and Nomura just wants to die.

It was stated in one of the interviews that Nomura is actually the conservative voice among the leadership who wants to keep the vision closer to OG FF7, which is surprising considering the narrative chicanery of Kingdom Hearts. Two games into this trilogy, and I'm inclined to agree with him....the parts of Remake and Rebirth that are basically consistent with the original narrative have been, in my opinion, generally way better than the stuff that significantly changes the narrative. I do think a story that mixes things up can be interesting, but the project leadership seems unwilling to fully commit to it, and I don't think Nojima is the writer to pull it off.

Rebirth is "content: the game".

Boring unneeded open world - check.
Shitty side quests - check.
Annoying non optional mini games - check.
Forced walking sections - check.
Changing the story in a remake - check.

It's a real shame because the game is a stone cold 10/10 in terms of visuals, cutscenes, voice acting and music. I wasn't as enamoured with the combat as others but it's not bad.

It's clear they're saving that for the 3rd game. It will be impactful when the truth hits you-know-who.

Kitase just stated at some event that Rebirth's ending is the way it is because of Nomura. Not sure to what extent

so strange that capcom can do such a great job staying true the cheesy heart & soul of resident evil, while square's just seemingly completely lost the thread regarding final fantasy...

Capcom can compensate it with actual good gameplay

These guys really need to put a sock in it. They aren't building hype; they're sabotaging any intrigue Rebirth's ending has.

If part 3 plays out exactly the same as the OG then the entire theme of the remake is bullshit.
