After SimCity I'd say no way this could happen, but then Microsoft always manage to find a way to surprise unpleasantly.
Sim City: The Console
I don't buy it.
MS would have to be really fucking stupid to do this. Don't they even look at their own stats? There's like 40 million XBL accounts for 70M+ consoles.
whenever my internet goes out I can only play the trial versions of any XBLA games I have bought, so they are just transferring this to ALL my games...? great.
So if XBL or our internet goes down, we're fucked?
Living in a country where the internet is shit, this isn't the console for me
Obviously not the most important issue regarding this, but what happens 20+ years from now when Microsoft pulls the plug on the servers? If this is true, won't every game released for the system be unplayable in the future?
Wow some of you console warriors are really invested in this war, and it hasn't even started.
Plenty of people in that sdk thread are looking really stupid right now.
Forgive me if I don't believe Kotaku's "two sources". Probably SuperDAE posing as two people.
Until this is confirmed, I don't believe it.
Seriously? You can't play any of your purchased XBLA games offline?
Every rumor we've had for over a year so far points to it and now two more sources confirm it. If you don't believe it now, I don't think anything will convince you.
Apparently there are some people who are not informed about Arthur Gies:

Wow. Xbox won the generation for me this time around, but wow, I'm definitely going PS4 if these rumors are true.

Console war is like the Korean war, it never officially ended.
PS4 isn't plagued with this shit? Or is that still not official?
I was thinking of buying one of the two next-gen consoles and wasn't sure which one, but it seems like the choice is getting more obvious now. Unless PS4 is really fucking expensive.

and just like the korean war it's about to start up again

They'll win the next generation as well. Pachter said so.

You can play offline if you do a license transfer.I think you're supposed to be able to if it's the original console that the game was downloaded to. So for example, if I have Xbox 1 and Xbox 2, and download a game to Xbox 1.
Xbox 1 can play game both online and offline
Xbox 2 can play game only if the live account that purchased it is logged in and connected to Xbox Live.
Far from confirming it.
That said, a caution and a caveat: other sources familiar with the codenamed Durango console have told us that they are still unaware of any Microsoft plans regarding an online requirement. No one has been able to say it's not true and some have speculated that this is required at the operating system level and therefore isn't something Microsoft has to tell all developers or retail partners. Microsoft also has the ability to change this type of requirement seemingly at a moment's notice through changes in firmware or networking infrastructure.
In January, the hacker SuperDaE began sharing official development documents for the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox. Many of the dozens of pages of the Xbox/Durango documentation were full of programming code but the parts in plain English--the parts that, honestly, we could understand--said nothing about an online requirement
