Kotaku: Next Xbox will require online connection to start games

The number of times I have been without internet using my 360 = 0.

However, IF this ends up being true this is utter bullshit. You are telling me if I was playing Bioshock, and my connection dropped it's going to suspend my game and make me troubleshoot my network connection? In a single player game? Fuck that noise.

This will guarantee I do not purchase a Durango until they are dirt cheap and only to catch upon Halo.

This just can't be real. I can't help but think that these rumors are planted just so they can announce that this is not the case with thunderous applause.

What is "aggressive hardcore" when it comes to advertising? ...or anything for that matter.

MS does realize there is a large part of the country on freaking dial up? They are basically handing the gen to Sony.

That's what I was wondering also.
In how many countries the robust internet connection (I mean to the point that doesn't trigger "network troubleshooter" or whatever) common thing?

What I do not understand about always online nextbox is that the USA is the biggest market for the xbox but the country is one of the worst in terms of home broadband connections, for speed/cost/reliability etc.

Thats even weirder than the always online itself.

This is starting to sound more and more likely. Kind of like the ps4 stuff when a bunch of different places started reporting the same specs and all that and it turned out true.

MS is insane if they try this. It's going to blow up in their face and everyone will laugh at them.

3 minutes sounds way too short. I don't particularly care if the console has to be connected (But can see why people would), but it should give you at least 15 minutes for interruptions in service IMO. I guess that wouldn't really allow games to be designed around always-on, but I am not convinced that developers will do anything positive with the concept anyway

I didn't want to believe that Microsoft would have knowingly sold us broken consoles this gen. I also didn't think that my 360 would turn into an interactive billboard when I purchased it.

This seems like less of a rumor, and more of a reality.

Will Xbox games look significantly better than PS4.. if they handle heavy computing at server side like Simcity ?
Is that why rumored specs of xbox are quite low end?

You know, while having a consumer console that requires a connection to Microsoft is suicide, distributing devkits that require a connection to Microsoft seems pretty smart.

I have a really hard time believing Microsoft would be so stupid to jeopardize their only successful consumer product....

Like I have no problem with the console being always on and always online, but using as a drm mechanism?

screw that.

Hmmm, another rumour about this and I am getting a little worried, but I have.... some kind of faith in MS and don't think it will be like this or defiantly not as bad.

I won't be able to play any games if this is true.
My gaming sessions are done at work where there isn't any internet connection to tap into.

So long MS, it was good while it lasted...

There will always be a defense force. Who knows what is real and what is not until the announcement is made. Perhaps it is time for MS to eat some humble pie if this is true and go back to their grassroots after this blows up in their face.

I've been waiting for this day since my industry friends first told me about it last Nov. I only wish I had a bank of popcorn .gifs to draw from. :p
