Kotaku: NFS Rivals "indistinguishable" between PS4/PC, XB1 version not present

I find it kinda weird they would show off a PlayStation 4 version that appeared to be having stability problems and crashed a lot, but still didn't show off the Xbox One version.

They chose to show a PS4 version that simply wasn't running well, but chose not to show the Xbox One version for whatever reasons. Obviously, those reasons weren't stability issues, since the PS4 obviously had that.

Is there some backroom deal between EA, Microsoft and Sony? Sony shows off EA Titles, Microsoft shows off EA Sports titles? I guess that wouldn't make sense because we have seen Battlefield on Xbox One and we have seen Fifa on PS4. Who knows what is going on anymore.

I think people are reading too much into the XB1 not being there. EA's goal was to show off the game, not it's performance on every system. There's no point in them bringing both of the consoles.

EA announced getting rid off online passes so I'm sure they thought Sony were doing DRM or that if they knew soy weren't they were going to try and shift as much custom to the MS DRM machine as possible. I'm curious how many of these EA deals will be renewed next year now the DRM is gone.

Yeah definitely will be interesting. Also Playstation 4 will probably have a higher overall market share than the PS3 as well as higher attach rate. Especially if multiplatform games look and run noticeably better.

Why bring in a PC then if it looks very similar to the PS4 version?

I don't see why Xbox One future owners should be concerned. Right from the get go they know they won't be getting the best version between both platforms when it comes to visuals/performance. On the flipside they know that there's no reason for the Xbox One version to not have dedicated servers, so it's not like Xbox One will be the worst version period.

This is EA we are talking about.

http://www.gamepur.com/news/12495-battlefield-4-wont-use-xbox-ones-compute-cloud-servers-day-one-confirms-dic.html

EA was also the main hold-out when XBox Live was first introduced. They wanted complete control of their own servers. That way they can force consumers to buy the annual sports games if they want to play online. EA also owns Origin and will continue to have their own sign-in process.

I don't get it. I'm watching that supposedly PC version, and all I can think is how absolutely underwhelming it looks. If the settings its currently at are what make it "indistinguishable" from the PS4, I'll gladly stick with PC. Nothing about that looked better than some of the better current gen games.

I'm thinking it's to show that the game's console graphics are on par with PC. Whether it's the XB1 or the PS4 is irrelevant. I really don't think the XB1 is going to have any problem running NFS, it's not exactly a graphical showcase.

But I guess we'll find out when the game and the consoles release.

They aren't though. That game looks like it's set to medium detail at best. Let's also not forget about all of the texture wizards out there who have been making games look better, on the already better than console looking games since...forever will do the same on games that are popular enough. Not trying to sound like "one of those people", but there's no way that's the best it can look on PC. Not by a longshot.

Question, has the Xbox One version been shown at any point at all. Video form or live demo?

NFS has more competition on the XBOX right now than on PS4. It makes more sense for them to target the PS4 audience as it's going to be the only racer available at launch. Doing everything they can to remind everyone. It makes great business sense.

what?

it's the opposite. they don't have to do much as racers fan on ps4 will buy no matter what. They better show best xb1 version because people have a decision.

This event took place before the DRIVECLUB delay was even rumored.

...or x1 version could have been even more unstable, obviously. I wouldn't rule out backroom deals at all though.

Yes, there are other EA games tied to Xbox but not all of them are. I mean, if I remember correctly, the game that this thread is about isn't tied to any console in terms of marketing, DLC, and/or game modes.

The whole EA Sports next gen launch lineup is though (for the Xbox One).

I think you're an insightful poster and don't mean to pile on but I'm with everyone else on this one. It's not an EA sports thing. It's EA sports, titanfall, bf4 dlc, pvz garden warfare, peggle 2, and probably more I can't think of. You're correct that there isn't a deal in place for this specific game but you have to admit they are pretty goddamn close with ms right now so the xb1 version not being shown is, at the very least, odd.

But the question is why. Is it because the ps4 is better? Is it because of the fact that EA has so many deals with MS that they are using this game as an olive branch to Sony? Is it because fed ex didn't get the systems to the event on time? Who knows. It's all speculation. But it seems like it means *something* that they are very pro-ps4 with this one game.

is NFS:Rivals 1080p@30fps? is that confirmed?
I know its 30fps but not sure about resolution.

Is it possible that Sony have know about the delay of DC for long enough, that they have been able to give EA a call and push the PS4 version of NFS to be marketed?

I mean, I doubt that Sony have only known for a few days that the only first party racer for the system is now not at launch, and that the competition have one ready. It would be smart of them to make the PS4 version of the game the 'go to' version.

Wouldn't they do a bundle?
And its not like we didn't know the PS4 version was the 'go to' version beforehand.

not when MS seems made a deal with EA not to release Need for Speed on PS4 till the 22th and not with the ps4 release day.

or thats what i think anyway. i can't find a reason why EA delay the release of a launch game.

either that or NFS on xbox one look like shit. and they are making it late as possible for gamers to find out on day one.

Bring out a new bundle after pre-orders have been done with the retailers? That would be tricky, and possibly pretty irritating to customers.

We know about it because of a dev quote. Most people do not. Gaf does not account for much of the millions of sales these titles get. Showing off the PS4 version makes sense for marketing, if a deal was in place.

Of course, it could be as simple as that is all they had available to show, for irrelevant reasons.

EA Ghost are a UK/Sweden developer. Over here the Xbox One launches a week before the PS4.

Jack Tretton said in one of the post-E3 interviews (on Gametrailers I think) that they don't want to require both an online pass and a subscription. Now that online play is behind a subscription for PS4, the online passes had to go.

Besides, SCE doesn't do online passes for PS3 games anymore either (where online play is free and will remain free). Kinda tells you that in hindsight they don't see it as a good model anymore.

As far as I understood it it's only a policy for Sony published games, but not something they can enforce on third parties.

I was talking about EA getting rid of online passes.

EA was using them as an anti used game measure (sony too I assume) so they even got money from used sales if people bought an online pass, with sony getting the money from PS+ that means even used games need payment to sony to play online.

I was speculating that EA was going to be getting re-imbursement for their games from "participating retailers" that would have been licensed to handle used games sales and that was a large part of siding with MS, as well as the obvious moneyhat there was this subtle moneyhat.

I just hope it's more like Hot Pursuit than Most Wanted. MW just didn't click for me. I like the more traditional feel of HP. Traditional NFS tracks racing exotic cars and getting chased by police.

Yeah I''ve heard from different people from Sony talk about how it doesn't make sense to pay for an online pass and also pay for PS+. But they also said third parties have the right to do whatever they choose like you said. However, I forgot who it was but someone from Sony was on GiantBomb and he said seeing how people supported Sony's stance on DRM, he doubts 3rd parties will go back to online passes next gen. So we'll see what happens. I have a hard time believing EA will give up on making money off of used games so easily

Well EA are shit out of luck, they can't use online passes without getting a massive PR kick in the teeth, now that they've said they won't be using them. and considering EA's recent decisions to try and get some better PR, (offline simcity in the future? humble charity bundle) they're trying to change their image.

Attempts so far to cash grab pre owned are:
Online passes
XB1 DRM

Both of these are now out of the question so the next one I see being attempted is an online only game (titanfall) and even heavier DLC.

same. i thought MW is shit to be honest.

i didnt like the idea of all cars available from day one. i wanted to win races like HP and level up to get the newest cars. was more fun when you were bragging with your new level up and the new cars " people used to be afraid of you if you were running up against them lol "

MW... man.. never again please.

i really hope we get a preview of the game and how its played online very soon. it will be my most played game if its like HP.

on PS store COD Ghosts plus season pass is $120. A $60 season pass. That's just ridiculous

I don't understand why people play that game, $120 year for the game and DLC for basically the same game every year.

But I see this as the future of gaming now, SaaS(Software as a Service) I expect EA to perhaps move to a lame system for online sports games, perhaps only allow players to play online with updated rosters, which would of course be $10 for the update, but it's not an online pass! it's just DLC required for online play.

Anyway that's my last post in here on how evil EA are.

Last time I bought FIFA was when they added the adidas thing where you paid a subscription and it would update your roster as well as the form the players were in. That was something I felt EA should have provided for free since they're selling you the game for $60 a year. Anyways, that was the last year I bought FIFA. It was several years ago. I just got tired of their bullshit.

And to me this shit is important. If we love games and don't like where some of these companies are taking them, then we should no buy their products. I'd rather not play a game than let EA exploit me. There are a thousand other games I can play

I think they first added that in FIFA09. I also remember you were able to specify one free league of your choice, but had to pay for the rest. I guess that's changed now as I haven't bought FIFA since then?

Now that DriveClub is out of the question, Rivals starts looking better and better...
Might be a fun little pick up after I'm done with AC4.

I had the opportunity for a hands-on NFS Rivals last week and its really coming along well, good fun, great graphics and lots of spot effects.

The videos you see here are of the PC version but we also played the PS4 version which looked identical.

Is this direct-feed? If so then why is the HUD floating around, and is there a way to disable it?
