Monster Hunter Wilds user score discrepancy between PC and consoles

Surprised it has so many reviews on PSN, most of the normies buy stuff and don't bother leaving a score, at the same time, it works different than steam so makes sense

27.6K reviews for a new game that just came out recently is a lot
I too like to check PSN scores. I also thought it was quite high for Day 1, the amount of scores that is.

The more I play the more I don't agree with the 4.7 average. I'm enjoying the game but (NPC) character models are balls ugly to me and the story is lame as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. The lip animation for speaking is also laughably bad. I haven't seen something so bad in ages.

I'll probably drop mine down to 3 but need to play more. It's at a 4 right now.

I wouldn't consider console scores to seriously.
Doom 1 &2 before Nightdive Studio took out had high scores despite being an absolute catasthrophe of game.
WWZ and Crysis are plagued with constant crashes and gaming break bugs(critical bugs if you consider the PS4 version), still receive good scores.

Monsters are really the only standout, not because they look better than monsters in other games but because they at least look similar to currrent gen stuff, you probably saw a bug of textures not loading, i didn't had that luckily.

The locations are straight up a downgrade compared to world, if not graphically, art design wise, no idea how capcom fucked up this much.

The ice area is worse
The forest area is worse
The fire\volcanic area is worse

Nothing comparable to rotten vale, coral heighs or the crystal place.

Even fucking rise has more memorable locations and that was already a downgrade compared to world.
Agreed here. The areas were disappointing. Some specific locations look good, but overall it's bland, especially the last three areas.
The guardian area is literally just a blue gray across EVERYTHING.
 
The Steam score was in the low 40s and has been steadily increasing. The day 1 negative reviews will get drowned out as the players get into the latter parts of the game.
Same things happened to World. Once the review bombers got it out of their system and the millions of real players finally got around to leaving reviews, the score picked up

Today World has almost 300k reviews and they are 89% Positive

Weird, MHW looked fine, NPC wise, not talking about graphics because the game is optimized like crap (going by comments, didn't buy the game yet)

The worst thing is, if duller looking locations was the price to pay to have locations that feel much more alive than world i would be okay with that, but they really don't feel more lively than world, almost the opposite at times, small examples:

i only played 20 hours of wilds vs 1000++ of world but:

in world you had the mosquitoes paralizing you when you tried to mine the blue and red thingy in the volcanic map, none of that happened in wilds, they are just there doing nothing

the small jagras, the yellow\green fishes (gaujos?) in the first and second zone, occasionally attacked you while you were fighting other big jagras or jyuratodos, maybe i'm unlucky but no small animal attacked me in 20 hours od wilds, maybe because the maps are bigger and obviously less crammed because they had to space out things more.

there is nothing that disrupt the hunt as good as bezel or deviljho, not even close

rotten vale had the mechanic with the miams where you lose life, nothing on wilds

way less occasion when fighters fight each other, i think i had 1 or 2 occasions, in world it was a constant (again, smaller maps, more crammed)



Maybe i need to play more to start noticing things but for now world maps don't feel inferior in any aspect.

For me it's the art style, and the cringe script.

The weird anime/western hybrid. And it's like everyone looks strung out, weird color under/around eyes. Skin tone is weird, either too pale or dark. It's a variety of things but it's really off-putting to me. The voice acting is truly awful, it's a real head scratcher. Lip movement for speaking is some of the worst I've even seen.

That being said, I enjoy it enough to keep playing but I could shit on this game all day. Really bizarre title.

Post-credits content I was experiencing crashes every time I start an optional quest that it got so annoying. Turning off Steam overlay may have helped but still. This game clearly needs optimizations. I’m encountering visual glitches more frequently.

The end result is that the PS5 Pro has to run at 1080p to get a relatively stable but not locked 60 FPS.
PSSR as an upscaler similar to DLSS was one of the key parts of the PS5 Pro. Can't believe that people are happy with it just being used as AA now.

At some point you just have to stop crying like a little bitch and start playing an awesome game :) Monster Hunter benefits a lot from its online component, it is designed for cooperative play and as such is incredibly fun.

This translates into mostly good consumer ratings on consoles. You can accuse people of being desperate or of liking shitty sandwitches as some muppets suggested above, but i'll already gobble up two of those before their shaders fully compile and i'll love it ;)

Can you blame me for that? Monhun has long been plagued by technical issues that Capcom still can't seem to fix, but since the game is playable enough and has its undeniable charm, people will eventually move on and just have some fun with it.

So did i, 5 stars.

No worries, it's just PlayStation fanboys thinking they can do PC the same way they did Xbox. Of course, they're dreaming. Because as far as tech goes, historical data shows quantum gaming will hit the PC environment first. As does all innovative tech when it comes to gaming. For example, Ray Tracing = PC First, Solid State Drives = PC First, NATIVE 4k Refresh Rates above 60fps = PC first, VR Gaming = PC First.. I can go on if they'd like.

Oof at those Steam reviews. Game seems to be a pile of steaming đź’© from bugs and optimization standpoint.

And double OOF at the number of review on Xbox. That’s just painful to watch.
 
They are just inept. This game looks worse than Dragons Dogma 2 while running worse than Dragons Dogma 2 and they use the same fucking in house Capcom game engine.
This. I love Monster Hunter and been on bed rest so haven't booted it up yet. But I waited a year to play DD2 because I heard the optimization was bad. Now hearing MHW is going through the same thing is making it easier for me to wait. I really hope they take all of the money and success and update their engine.

The official benchmark is not useful for evaluating whether you can play the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds comfortably.
In the current generation, RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT or higher can maintain an average of 60 FPS without FG.
 
I think what makes matter worse on PC is the low resolution of textures. On consoles and even PS5 Pro you are far from 4K so it's OK for most people. But on PC people with XX90 cards will try to reach near native 4 and the constrast with those 720p textures will be even more stark. This was the same problem with FF7 Rebirth when the PSSR patch come out. Suddently those low resolution textures looked even more awful.
