Really? I just looked at the biggest names, which were developed by others.
3/4th of them were.
don't forget halo waypointHalo 3, Halo Wars, Halo ODST, Halo Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, and Halo 4 all in one generation. That's a ton of fucking Halo for one generation.
Please stop arguing with each other and getting snipe-y. I don't care who started it. I don't care who got the last word. Drop it.
If you happen to post after this reminder, please take heed and edit out your post.

Microsoft went conservative considering the time between PS3/360 and PS4/Durango. 1.23 TF + 8 GB DDR3 + DMEs isn't exactly setting the world on fire. It's a safe bet. I can imagine a scenario where games won't run at 1080p natively on Durango in favor of better effects and post processing filters.
Sony, themselves, can barely call themselves next-gen. I understand why both manufacturers have went conservative, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 1080p dropped rather quickly in their first party titles to achieve something that looks similar to Deep Down.
After reading interviews though, I am hoping we see faster refreshes between console cycles. These machines will be bending over and tapping out after 5 years.
Yeah but there are the same game though. I wanted different genres. I always wanted Halo to pull a Star Wars and make solid games in other genres. Too long we have been tied into this mindset that "series=genre". Thats a BS way of looking at things. We need to expand where we can. We could have expanded there.

Mainline entries have always come every three years.
*an 8 year long generation
Not to mention you're counting a spin-off and an HD remake. 4 games of the same style in 8 years isn't that bad, also who cares as long as the games are still good and still selling a shit-load?
I never thought Halo had a good enough universe to warrant that, but a lot of people (like you) seem to really love it so it's a shame that Microsoft missed out on that. Maybe they'll change that next-gen.
The Halo brand IS being milked to death.
Considering the backlash Halo 4 received, I'm beginning to wonder if people aren't getting tired of the games. 343 is no Bungie either.

Also, to put the whole "no new Ip's!" thing to bed:
-Alan Wake
-Gears of War
-Crackdown
-Splosion Man
-Comic Jumper
-The Maw
-Gunstringer
-Shadow Complex
-Castle Crashers
-Geometry Wars
-Kameo
-Viva Pinata
Not to mention a few games like Forza Horizon or Halo Wars that used franchise names in radically different ways.
Seems to have sold well enough despite that, so don't worry about them, they'll be alright.
And how many of those were developed by Microsoft's 1st party studios?
You forgot Condemned, Dead Rising and Trials by the way.
3/4th of them were.
Okay, you have to explain your reasoing when you say things like that.
EDIT: Also yes, I missed a shit load. I'm just saying that when people say Microsoft didn't have any new IP's, they're misinformed or lying.
What the fuck? Maybe I'm missing something, but a lot of people (especially a lot of Halo fans on here) made it sound like the series is on a sales decline. That's craziness. I'm glad that people are still enjoying the series; I still haven't played H4. Still worth checking out?
Only the ones in bold are developed by first party studios, actually.

Halo 4 sold a shit ton.

Backlash from all the people who bought it, or the people who continue to play it?
Geometry Wars was by Bizarre and Crackdown was Ruffiant. Weren't they both owned by MS at some point?

Nope, they've always been independent, as was Realtime Worlds.
It's largely the super competitive players who are upset with the changes. They don't like the perks and the ability to call in weapon drops. As a more casual player, I happen to love the changes.
My mistake then.
Interesting. So it's still worth picking up then?
[/B]
Oh, hell yes. It's incredible. The changes made were very much needed too.
Alright cool. I think I'll finally give it a try then now that it has had a price drop.
The only think I know I'm not going to like is what hey did with the story, or what they didn't do. The ending of Halo 3 was so cool because it could have turned the series into anything at all, but it sounds like they played it a little too safe with where they went with the story.
Story sucks major ass, so beware.

Oh well. I never really cared for the Halo story after like Halo 2, but it's always like a step up from something like CoD. Will play through it anyway just to see it through.
I'd definitely say so. It's a bit more forgiving than other multiplayer games, where new players just get stomped because they haven't memorized every weapon placement and whatnot. And the perk system allows you to tweak your abilities and weapons to better match your play style, while giving you something to aspire to aside from just gaining levels.
The single player is worth experiencing from a "content tourist" perspective, but they didn't do anything new with it. The strategic Halo combat is still mostly intact, but it feels more linear than past Halo campaigns.

Halo 4 being the fastest selling makes sense though, because the install base was the largest then for all the Halo games.
I have completed the first three games, and as for the stories, Halo 2's story just went bizarre on me (can't remember how far I was in it, but I remember WHAT it was).

Oh please. Call of Duty and Assassins Creed have titles every year.
For perspective, MS only released 1 more Halo sequel/spin off than Sony did with Uncharted this gen. Let's get a grip on the word "milking". For further perspective compare it to total games from Sony series like God of War, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank...
And then compare the success of those, and tell me who's milking what to its death.
Use that criteria on the franchises you like, and see what it adds up to.
Here's the problem with your whole argument, Sony is supporting 'two' consoles. All the HALO games appeared in 'one' console in a single gen. Big difference
But anywho I think this thread has gone in a very different direction than the OP so I will leave it at that
Single player story was dumb, but the presentation and the animations were miles ahead of the previous Halo games.
The main plot may have been, but the whole Cortana angle imo was brilliantly done. Never cared so much for Cortana or Master Chiefs relationship with her close to as much in any of the other games.
Believe him then. I quit.
Oh please. Call of Duty and Assassins Creed have titles every year.
That's a bad analogy because those IPs are milked to death as well.
Right, that must be why Black Ops 2 sold like 20 million copies, and Assassins Creed 3 sold better than previous Assassins Creeds...because they have been milked to death.
Your argument simply doesn't hold up, and it simply comes from someone who clearly doesn't care about Halo.
He clearly doesn't mean "death" in popularity, he means "death" in creativity. BTW, so excited for the next God Of War

It just wasn't great imo. 343 Halo wasn't up to Bungie Halo in some ways.
Although this post for some reason is making me jones to play it again lol. Graphically stunning.
what part did bungie do better than 343? It felt like a Halo game to me
I'm calling bs on that. vgleaks had the tflop number almost a year ago. And I remember in those past ps4 threads Thurway going on how Sony shouldn't go anything less than a 2tflop gpu and throwing out crazy specs.
Again, this number was in the vgleaks leaked spec sheet. All Thurway did was repeat what vgleaks already leaked but doubled down on the 4gb ram amount.
He said that publicly in a post at B3D. It's no secret.
