KRS-One, decency zero

If Osama Bin Laden ever buys a rap album, he'll probably start with a CD by KRS-One.

The hip-hop anarchist has declared his solidarity with Al Qaeda by asserting that he and other African-Americans "cheered when 9/11 happened."

The rapper, whose real name is Kris Parker, defiled the memory of those who died in the terrorist attacks as he spouted off at a recent New Yorker Festival panel discussion.

"I say that proudly," the Boogie Down Productions founder went on, insisting that, before the attack, security guards kept black people out of the Trade Center "because of the way we talk and dress.

"So when the planes hit the building, we were like, 'Mmmm - justice.'"

The atrocity of 9/11 "doesn't affect us [the hip-hop community]," he said. "9/11 happened to them, not us," he added, explaining that by "them" he meant "the rich ... those who are oppressing us. RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations."

Parker's screed drew a loud boo from novelist Tom Kelly, who was in the audience. "I lost six friends there on 9/11," Kelly told us afterward.

Parker also sneered at efforts by other rappers to get young people to vote.

"Voting in a corrupt society adds more corruption," he added. "America has to commit suicide if the world is to be a better place."

Ex-Nirvana rocker Krist Novoselic, who was on the panel, yelled back: "That is wrong, man. Suicide is not the answer."

But, judging by Parker's downward-spiraling career, he's already bent on self-destruction.

"Thats my nigga!"

Ned, how can I be down?

Also, anyone who knows anything about hip-hop would know that the Blastmaster lost his fuckin' mind years ago. This stupid shit is really no surprise. I was kinda hoping that his quote was taken out of context, but from the looks of things, it wasn't.

Ain't the devil happy, Ripclawe?

KRS-One's a good rapper, but he needs to stop being such a fucking jerk. Black people died on 9/11 too; were they in on the white man's conspiracy to bring the brotha man down?

And seriously, "don't vote because America is corrupt"? Malarkey. KRS, show me a non-corrupt nation. Of course politics are corrupt; James Madison once said "If men were all angels, there would be no need for a government." Sadly, this is not the case. So we have to choose between the lesser of two evils.

I want to smack KRS-One in the face.

It is super slanted, but that doesn't change the fact that KRS is a complete loon.

Funny that you mention that. I noticed how after they alluded to his real name, they thereon referred to him as "Parker". It immediately reminded me of how certain journalists would only refer to Ali as "Clay" even after having his name legally changed.

Anyway, KRS is officially dead to me now. What pisses me off the most is that he's ruined my fond memories of BDP..

He's been a sanctimonious prick ever since he wasn't flavor of the month anymore. Maybe I should call him and tell him how happy I am that Scott LaRock is dead, and that I cheered when it happened.

nelly beat KRS ONE!!!! :D

Nelly's mere existance is more offensive to me than anything Kris Parker could ever say.

It's hard for me to take this story seriously with lines like this:

"If Osama Bin Laden ever buys a rap album, he'll probably start with a CD by KRS-One."

"The hip-hop anarchist has declared his solidarity with Al Qaeda"

"The rapper, whose real name is Kris Parker, defiled the memory of those who died in the terrorist attacks as he spouted off"

"The atrocity of 9/11"

"Parker also sneered at efforts by other rappers to get young people to vote."

"But, judging by Parker's downward-spiraling career"

Not saying the guy isn't a nut for saying this, but the article is WAY too sensational for my tastes, and is obviously trying to rile people up as much as possible. Compare to my version, sans crap:

The hip-hop artist KRS-One angered many today by declaring that he and other African-Americans "cheered when 9/11 happened."

The rapper, whose real name is Kris Parker, sounded off at a recent New Yorker Festival panel discussion.

"I say that proudly," the Boogie Down Productions founder went on, insisting that, before the attack, security guards kept black people out of the Trade Center "because of the way we talk and dress.

"So when the planes hit the building, we were like, 'Mmmm - justice.'"

9/11 "doesn't affect us [the hip-hop community]," he said. "9/11 happened to them, not us," he added, explaining that by "them" he meant "the rich ... those who are oppressing us. RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations."

KRS-One's comments drew a loud boo from novelist Tom Kelly, who was in the audience. "I lost six friends there on 9/11," Kelly told us afterward.

KRS-One also disagreed with the worth of efforts made by other rappers to get young people to vote.

"Voting in a corrupt society adds more corruption," he added. "America has to commit suicide if the world is to be a better place."

I actually think my version has more impact, not less. It allows you to focus on the words that he said instead of the sensationalist and provocative language of the author.

Way to miss the point. I'm not happy about Scott being dead. Not like Mr. Parker will ever see this, but I was trying to get across that he was being stupid.

And this all assumes the quotes were true and in context.

mrmyth, I got your point, but two wrongs don't make a right, naw'mean? I was just listening to "Super Hoe" (man the iPod makes really eerie random selections) and I was a little sad to hear Scott talk about how he just got done knocking the boots on those two big butt females.

effzee, fuck Nelly. I wish KRS would throw his ass off a stage, P.M. Dawn-stylee.

I'd advocate governmental assination in this case, but Kris would just inhale and destroy the bullets. I swear one day he's going to sneeze and wipe the eastern seaboard right off the map.

Beware, New York, it's flu season!

If this isn't out of context, wow, what a freaking moron. Yeah, no black people were in the towers when it happened :rolleyes

KRS-One is one of those guys you listen to at first because he sounds intelligent, but then afterwards you realize nothing he just told you makes any fucking sense.

He lost the last of his credibility when he went after Nelly for being commerical while trying to pimp his own video on 106 & park

LOL!! KRS-ONE is so desperate for attention that he has to say this shit just to get people to talk about him these days... that's how I see it anyway. For what other reason than controversial publicity would he say these things?

what a fucking MORON. KRS-one was actually one of the guys i respected most in rap. He always seemed intellegent, but that shit is out the window.

The atrocity of 9/11 "doesn't affect us [the hip-hop community]," he said. "9/11 happened to them, not us," he added, explaining that by "them" he meant "the rich ... those who are oppressing us. RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations."

maybe someone didn't give this jackass the memo, but NEWSFLASH ASSHOLE: Hiphop is commercial. Hiphop is corporate. Hiphop IS "the rich". RCA, BMG and the radio stations "oppressing you"? Oh no, your record label took points off of your latest album so you'll be making 10 cents per record instead of 15. You're a regular fucking Kunta Kinte. Fucking out of touch retard. I didn't lose some respect for KRSone (if this is all true), i lost ALL respect for the douchebag.

levious

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
I've always been a big fan, but... how could this have been taken OUT of context? He really needs to explain these statements, or dissapear completely.

Yo man, I've been saying it for years, KRS fell the fuck off. I think it was either bish or darien who gave me an earful for saying that, but it's true. He's garbage. The guy played a house party in Plattsburgh for crying out loud. This is just the nail in the coffin. PEACE.

Krs went off the deep end quite a bit back it seems. Someone remind him that black people were killed in 9/11 and that Osama bin Laden isn't telling the terrorists to avoid killing blacks.

Not surprised he said this, because over the last several years, its been apparent that he is insane. I read an interview a couple of years ago where he said that hip-hop as a movement wasn't doing enough to start a revolution, and we should band together and move to an area where we can create a hip-hop biosphere-type structure. People could only be part of the colony if they announced themselves as "hip-hop." Thinking KRS was joking, the interviewer laughed, only to be scolded for not being hip-hop.

And then in another interview he said he was trying to tell Nas about hip-hop's role on Mars or something similar, and he asked Nas to go with him and speak at NASA. I guess Nas thought he was crazy, and KRS told him he was like Neo, because he was "The One" to lead the movement.

I guess Bishop or some other mod better get their ban stick ready cause they are about to need it. First of all KRS one is one of the greatest rappers alive. He's a fucking living legend, he like Ali to boxing. The man has been around when hip hop way "nigger" muic and wouldn't last past the summer. The irony of it is that he's part of the reason hip hop is as comercial as it is, dispite being anti comercial. So fucking what Nelly out sels him now, Nelly doesn't have one tenth the skills as KRS. There wouldn't be a Nelly if it wasn't for KRS. That's like rubbing it in your parents face that you are a millionaire when they worked cleaning offices to put you through school. When the fuck has sales and popularty ment you have talent. Briteny Spears last album out sold Micheal Jacksons last album, of course that means Britney is more talented, riiiight. All you people talking crap about KRS are like a tick on an elephant your words mean nothing to the man. He as a "has been" is more than any of you will ever be. With that I say see you at the other forum.
