La La Land |OT| Not quite Mia tempo

Saw this yesterday and was really impressed with the movie. They don't make em like this anymore is all I could think of after seeing it. The missus on the other hand was crying and understandably so, she hates the movie and never wants to see it again.

I bought the soundtrack and am eagerly awaiting the home release. Some of those scenes and numbers were just beautiful.

Looks like the retail version will be out in about 100 days

I'm a little disappointed in the International marketing

Damn, what a movie. Loved it but fuck that ending hit super close to home. Ugh.

That being said, if Moonlight loses out to this, I'll be pissed.

I noticed that Sebastian never formally introduces himself to Mia. The only proper noun she uses to refer to him is "George Michael". She says "Seb" once, in reference to a name for the club.

I just saw this movie and echo what everybody else here said. This is a phenomenal movie and everything about it is beautiful !

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Seb also drives his car right up to the very from of the observatory and then they break in and have an entire dance through the entire place even using the equipment. Its not really a movie based directly in real life or anything.

The first half is meant to be unrealistic.

That was basically what I was getting it though I'd say the whole movie is like this. Its a form of magical realism. Its based on elements of real life with a lot of flights of fancy and surreal moments. Its one of the reasons why I enjoyed the movie so much.

Just got out of it. Fantastic movie. "Here'a to the Mess We Make" is stuck in my head, as is the piano theme played throughout.

Only ding I would give it is Gosling's singing, but thankfully there wasn't much of it.

The audition song is the worst song outside of the John legend one. Skip it every time.

Just watched it today, seriously fantastic film, one of the best from 2016. Loved the cinematography, the music, the acting, all of it. So good. I'm still in awe of just how funny, heartbreaking, and uplifting it is all at once.

I think we can all agree this is the best old-timey movie.

AARP's ”Top 10 Movies for Grownups" list for 2016, which represents the best acting, writing, and overall filmmaking for viewers with a ”grown-up state of mind." The films were selected by AARP's top editors and movie critics. This year's picks for the best films tailored to adult audiences are:

”Arrival"
”Fences"
”Hello, My Name Is Doris"
”Jackie"
”La La Land"
”Lion"
”Loving"
”Manchester by the Sea"
”Silence"
”Sully"

”The 50-plus movie audience has a unique perspective on the impact relationships have on our lives," said Myrna Blyth, senior vice president and editorial director of AARP Media. ”This year's Top 10 list tackles the subject of complex human relationships from all angles — family ties, grownup love, and longtime friendship among them. Most importantly, it's a wonderfully eclectic mix of the year's most appealing, entertaining, and thought-provoking films for the 50-plus moviegoer."

I liked it. Far from the best of the year. Think that is the media and hopeless romantics hyping it up. Will be upset if it wins best picture of moonlight. My review is in the movie thread.

Chazelle putting in work though. Good basis with jazz

Its a movie about Hollywood. Its going to clean up I think.

It shouldn't win over Moonlight, a very very culturally relevant and needed movie.

It will probably win over Moonlight, a very very culturally relevant and needed movie.

Because it reminds the academy voters of their childhoods. I bet it sweeps.

Why can't La La Land win based on its own merits? Its a terrific, well made film with great performances.

Best movie of 2016.

Seriously, go watch it.

Rekindles my faith in Hollywood after dark ages of comic book movies.
Comic book movies are not that frequent. It is like 5 comic book movies a year maybe less. There are great movies every year that outshine la la land. Visit the movie thread we will help yah

Just saying. You make a good movie about the adolescence of a black gay man, you better hope there isn't also a good movie about two white straight people falling in love in Hollywood or you're fucked

I just think moonlight should win purely because it is a better movie. But that is if life

Edit: not saying la la land doesn't deserve praise. Just don't think it is award worthy for best picture

Moonlight is one of the few on my list to see but I'd rate La La Land over several of the other major motion pictures vying for award seasons. I'd have no major issue of it winning as I think its an incredibly well made film in all respects.

Moonlight left theaters here so fast so I can't make a judgement call on which is better. Haven't seen Manchester by the Sea either, but yeah La La Land is the most Oscar-y movie of the year.

Romantic musical set in LA? it's a lock

My friend highly recommended this. I want to see it but it isn't showing anywhere near me. Will buy on blu ray I suppose...

Anything is possible outside of animation

Movies like Moonlight, a grounded drama, are much better positioned to win best picture than tons of other types of movies like comedy and animation, so I think your complaints are kind of hard to swallow if you're like me and usually rooting for those movies.

Amazing movie, didn't expect to like it as much as I did but I really loved it. Emma Stone was fantastic and Gosling was great too.
I can't believe this dude is like 30 years old, and wrote and directed Whiplash and now this. He might have one hell of a career ahead of him.
Haven't seen Moonlight, and Manchester was good and all, but this was something else. A truly special movie.

I really loved the soundtrack, but listening to it on Spotify doesn't really feel complete, you know?
The visuals, I feel, is what makes this film truly special so I feel more compelled to watch it again than listening to the OST.

Most of the songs don't stand on there own without the visuals. That is what makes la la land a week musical. I actually prefer a lot of it without the words. Except that one joint Ryan sings but just the beginning

I saw the movie the other night and thought it was great. My wife has had the soundtrack on repeat the last couple days.
