Lack of urgency from Nintendo

Everything is weird now. Nintendo has carved out their own market like Disney. They don't need to do anything but be Nintendo. The people playing Switch are perfectly fine still playing Switch. When a Switch 2 comes out, they'll be excited but if they had to play more games on the current system for another 3 years, I don't think much changes.

This generation has the most boring and lackluster video game generation of my lifetime. There's really no need for urgency from anyone. Nothing is going on. Graphics and gameplay are pretty much stagnant.
What Disney did is incredible i think… it may have had an affect on Nintendo. A lack of urgency can damage a product, have a strong timing should be taken seriously. You need a new console or handheld out there.

The situation is unforgivable given the fact that Sony and Microsoft released next gen consoles 5, almost 6 years ago. To me consoles should be launch together, releasing one now would disrupt things. What does GAF think? Has this occurred before?
Switch 2 will be more a part of the PS4 than PS5 generation, so that already disrupts things beyond launch timing.

Has this happened before? Yes, Switch (PS3 generation) launched 3years after PS4.

Nintendo gonna Nintendo.

Nobody seems to mention the "Nintendo War Chest" anymore. Perhaps they had to replenish it after the beating they took with the Wii-U. If you can continue to make money with what you currently have why wouldn't you?
The "beating" Nintendo took during the 3DS/WiiU generation was relatively small and was more or less recouped by the time Switch launched (March 2017).
Switch isn't just on path to become the best selling console of all time but it has also generated record levels of profits.

The Nintendo Switch is one of the most successful consoles of all time, if I was them I wouldn’t be in a rush to move on from it either.

It’s the same thing that has happened with rockstar and GTA, it’s hard to want to move on from some thing that’s bringing in so much success because the new thing might not be as successful.

“Has this occurred before?” Are you new here?🤦‍♂️

Like, ever heard of the Switch? What does launching in tandem with a competitors system do for Nintendo? What’s in it for them? Such an odd take.

Also, it was 4 years ago, not 5 or 6. So the gap between Switch and PS4/Xbone is prolly gonna be nearly identical to the gap between Switch 2 and PS5/Xbox Series. The gap clearly benefits Nintendo, so why on earth would they change that? 🤔 🧐

Not only they continue to curb stomp the competition, but soon will break the PS2 sales record.

Also, remember that when they "failed" with their home consoles, they sold ungodly amounts of GameBoy and DS/3DS hardware, also, they don't sell their stuff at a loss.

Let them cook.

Nintendo can easily destroy the PS2 number sold by just price cut Switch 1 on the day Switch 2 launch.
I think Nintendo is more invested in having a great Switch 2 launch that pulling any focus from it to get to some prestige sales target on the platform they'll me moving away from.

Just don't buy Nintendo systems, who cares? Their deficit with online functionality is even worse than their dated graphics.
Again with this, if you make a great game what does graphics has to do with it? Then I think it's more remarkable that Sony and MS even though they do have more powerful hardware still can't produce a better lineup than the "inferior" Switch, don't you? Like fucking school playground thinking here, jeez.

The best place to get online and graphics is PC. Just don't buy Xbox and Playstation, who cares? Their deficit with paid online is even worse than their dated graphics.

Seriously though, Nintendo is the only brand with a product that sufficiently differentiates itself from a gaming PC. My online and graphics needs are met on PC, but this isn't exactly game boy times with narrowing tech gap either. Actually the cheap NSO is the only online I want sometimes, because the handheld mode is way better for checking whether it's my turn in long 1v1 tactics games without taking up an entire desk or TV screen all day. Other consoles will just give me the same game chained to screen but now with monthly fee lol.

If the Nintendo consoles actually had anything worthwhile playing online you'd be paying a monthly fee as well

Perhaps but Nintendo is just a few millions away from beating PS2 numbers, and I think we will likely see Switch 1 beating it even after Switch 2 launch as Nintendo will still support it because of the massive installed base.

You gave a hypothetical situation that "might have" convinced me to get NSO, but I had just explained why I had already bought it in the post you were replying to...
Justifying paying for an online subscription because you can use the console in handheld mode and shitting on other consoles for having a subscription seems a little silly to me tbh

Well first of all they're only 8 million away from beating their own record the NDS. It feels like there's not been many Nintendo games releasing the last few years? Are they all in development for switch 2 or do you think they'll do cross gen?

Shitting on the consoles was mostly sarcastic because someone had just shat on the Switch, but I wouldn't expect you to detect that given you just now finished reading the post.

In other words if PS/Xbox can make fun of Nintendo for online and visuals, why can't PC make fun of them? The irony if that if you're a true online/graphics whore, consoles became redundant already, and the only differentiated platform is Nintendo. What's more attractive to online/gfx whores, gaming for free on PC, with a 1v1 strategy game slow burning on my Switch all day at the same time, or a Playstation subbed to PS+, charging for a month of online play almost what N does for a whole year? ($18 vs 20 lol)

With a handful of exceptions, the last big Switch games came out in 2023 (though a couple of those exceptions are in 2025)

There's were still plenty of smaller games in 2024 and think that will be the case in 2025, but they'll be cross gen. Big first party games will be next gen only.
