Lack of urgency from Nintendo

The situation is unforgivable given the fact that Sony and Microsoft released next gen consoles 5, almost 6 years ago. To me consoles should be launch together, releasing one now would disrupt things. What does GAF think? Has this occurred before?
November 2020 to January 2025 is less than 4 years and two months ago from PS5/Series release.

Heck, SNES took well over three years to launch just to launch the system in different territories. 1990 in Japan, 1991 in NA, 1992 in Europe, 1993 in South America, 1994 in Russia. That’s just one system from the same company.

Generally system don’t launch together as closely as MS and Sony have as the last two. But now since they are basically PCs there isn’t as much to differentiate from them, especially since they are basically pulling from the same supplier for their main components anyhow. It sounds like the next Microsoft launch is gonna be well before Sony’s anyhow so this whole everything going at the same time is going away fairly soon anyhow.

Nintendo is NOT competing with Sony MS or PC.

They march to their own drum - the ONLY thing that should concern them is if Sony goes with some sort of handheld that can play native ps4-6 games and does it REALLY WELL. Then Nintendo better come with BANGER exclusives

You presume the wrong thing.

Nintendo isn't late, they are early for Next Gen. Switch Came out within 3 years of Series X / PS5 and Switch II will come out within 18 months of another hardware release in 2026.

OP feels entitled? telling Nintendo what to do? They owe you nothing and march to their own beat. Ever since WiiU they have marched to their own drum and release when it suits them.

Nintendo is in a strange position, the Switch on it's dying legs is still cleaning up esepcially in Japan. House holds havce multple devices, it's pretty crazy. Hard to pivot off current profits. They are in no rush, and yes as a gamer I feel they have fallen victim to their own success.

But once again, easy for the OP and us to play with someone elses money and profits. Who fucking cares what Sony and Microsoft do or when they release. The whole premise of this thread is utterly stupid that consoles should launch together.

It's a longer wait than usual, but it's worth it if it means that Nintendo has their games ready for the first year or two.

They've got a system that has sold 146 million units. Only the PS2 has more with 160 million units sold (Sony regularly updates the number by conjuring sold units out of their asses, tho). What urgency is there to be had?

Dumb thread.

Nintendo's release strategy is perfectly sound. They release a device that perfectly complements any of the other 2 at a different time that enables purchases of their console as a companion device and also puts distance between their product and the other consoles, segmenting them further in the consumer's mind.

Most Switch owners also have another console or PC. Thats why it sold more than any other contemporary console. You make your PS/XB/PC big choice for the following year and then get an Swich on the side regardless of you pick because of the games, or your kids, or any other reason.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

Maybe OP wants Nintendo to drop the Switch and move on to Switch 2 asap, before Switch surpass PS2?

Personally speaking, I don't count PS2 Slim sales because the PS2 Slim can't even play FF11 and is therefore just a useless gimmick. OG "fat" PS2 is where it's at!

I don't understand this. Why is it unforgivable? Where does it say in written law of the game industry that all gaming console have to launch together?

Who is ready for a PS6 or the next Xbox? Hardly anyone. The gap between console generations should be getting longer not shorter. Nintendo is just optimising time, and that is a good thing.

Nintendo was never going to reveal it until after the holiday season, and they weren't going to do it on New Years. We're barely a week into January.

I don't understand what people are exasperated over, like it should have happened already. At least let the month close out first.

Nintendo is still working on the next gen MiiVerse before they can unveil the Switch 2. The new C(ommunity) button opens it up, so its a central experience.

It is true, believe me.

Look, I will clarify my stance on this.

Do I think Nintendo has a ton of talented employees?

Yes!

Do I think Switch 2 will be successful?

Barring anything crazy happening, ie (WWIII, complete economic collapse, etc) yes. It will sell well.

Do I think Nintendo’s silence has caused them to appear like a Clown Show?

Yes, sadly. Their silence finally bit them in the butt.

Have Nintendo been gun shy since they recalled the Switch Pro dev kits?

YES!! 100% Switch Pro was real. Full Stop. I know devs who worked with the tech.

Despite what all these insiders say. Do I think Nintendo for a billion dollar company is nervous about Switch 2 announcement and want to milk every last second out of Switch 1.

Yes, 100%. Whenever it was supposed to be announced, it does feel like the messaging is a mess and the lack of communication in my opinion makes it look like a clown show.

Nintendo should have never made that May statement. It was a mistake at this point. Which is why I feel there was a last minute delay on Switch 2.

You can't have been around very long. The Wii U launch didn't coincide with Xbox One or PS4 and the Switch launched 3 years before Series X and PS5. Nintendo are playing their own game.

Given sales numbers and market mindshare, perhaps it is MS and SONY that should be timing with Nintendo (if we are playing this game)

As if Nintendo give a shit, they're in a world of their own.

Just imagine how much money they made from the original Switch this holiday period, that's now an 8 year old console. I mean, the latest iPhone when the Switch released was the damn iPhone 7 to put that into perspective.

No wonder they aren't in any rush to announce or launch this console. And even when they do it's going to be underpowered and make them good profits right from the very start to begin.

Sony announce hardware before games - think PS5 Pro - Nintendo will not announce hardware until the games are ready. The switch 2 could be ready for a year but they will still wait to launch it with Mario/Zelda etc coming in the first month or two.
