Lack of urgency from Nintendo

Nintendo is saying nope, missed this generation, somehow Nintendo loyalists accepted this narrative. Nintendo don’t seem to be in the flow of generations as stated.

I don't understand this logic. The Switch released in 2017, PS4/XBONE released in 2013, and the Switch went on to be the best selling console of all time. Unless Nintendo decided to go blow for blow in terms of hardware power with the other guys (which hasn't happened in 25 years), there is literally zero reason to release alongside new Sony/MS consoles.

Nintendo understands that the Switch brand is incredibly strong and damn near everyone alive knows exactly what the Switch is. There is very little benefit to the old style of console rollouts where the platform is shown a year+ before launch. From a business standpoint, it makes zero sense to do things like that now with how quickly things go viral online and how quickly people are ready for the "next thing". If you announce a console too early in this climate you can be doing yourself a disservice by eating up the hype momentum well before anyone can buy the product.

I'll never understand why people get excited about underpowered tech that plays kids games. It's like people obsessed with iPhones

There’s a lack of urgency, people were grateful for the launch of the ps5, and series x. I think the reality is there’s disconnect here, even as rumors continue to spread people are looking for the next Nintendo, resources for the next Zelda, tears of the kingdom desperately needed new hardware, GAF is siding with the corporation, Nintendo and not the gamers who want a fresh console NOW.

Frankly it’s a disgrace Nintendo hasn’t released a console yet everyone is waiting and somehow GAF is taking nintendos side? That damages gaming enthusiasts credibility. I think the appeal of a switch 2 is there, ironic only the wii had a Wii 2 (Wii u) if this is proper Nintendo it will not be switch 2, a new name will show up, and a traditional console could happen, they don’t have to do the dual hybrid screen thing, things might have changed at Nintendo. Maybe the second screen thing is a fad, and accessoriy.

Nintendo doesn't do what it wants, rather it was forced to follow a different path after GameCube in order to survive, sometimes it has worked out very well, like with the Switch, and other times very badly, like with the Wii U.
Nintendo has been following the same strategy since they entered the console market, with the only difference being that the Switch is now a hybrid console that focuses Nintendo's efforts on a single platform instead of two, and for several different reasons they got it right.

Since you have a Kratos avatar on your profile, I think it's interesting to mention that Sony's strategic change is much more drastic, as they are now publishing first party games on PC to "sustain" (or "survive", if I use the same word you used) the high-budget games they have been releasing and which are proving to be increasingly unsustainable, with their latest flop resulting in the complete closure of a studio.

Why should Nintendo care what other companies are doing? Switch sold continuously beyond expectations and is still selling pretty well considering it’s age. Software Sales are also super strong and even Mario Kart 8 is still doing well, although it’s very old at this point.

Of course they want to get as much money out of Switch before moving on to the next generation. It’s even their responsibility to maximize profit for their shareholders sake.

If you or anyone else would be in such a comfortable situation you would also delay your next platform as much as possible.
So it’s not a lack of urgency, but maximizing the profits.

Nobody seems to mention the "Nintendo War Chest" anymore. Perhaps they had to replenish it after the beating they took with the Wii-U. If you can continue to make money with what you currently have why wouldn't you?

I find it funny that Nintendo seems to have no problem with the accessory leaks as of late. I wonder if those leaks have their unofficial blessing for creating hype?

Edit: Statement seems ridiculous now, but it seemed to be posted one day before Nintendo took action, and the leaks were at least going on for a week or two at this point. I guess Nintendo were preparing before swooping in.

They had the warchest then and its even bigger now.

They are the only company not laying people off. And they just keep creating games. WiiU in retrospect was great for them. It made them lean and mean. They figured out what they did well. And what their weakness was.

They didn't lose money becausee of the DS and then they took basically all their 1st party developers and focused on one system.

Meanwhile MS and Sony keep paying for more stuidos and games and either release complete failures or close studios that never release a game. Or take a good studio and kill it.

Nintendo takes a no name studio with good tech or ideas and can literally mold it to their needs over a few decades.

I'm sure Microsoft and Sony must look at Nintendo and scratch their heads. But they both have to run in the other direction cause Nintendo has their niche covered. A very fortunate circumstance for Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft must wonder why they have to work so hard and run a race of diminishing returns.

It's wild when you think about how dead handhelds looked around 2011 or so. Everyone thought they'd be totally replaced by mobile gaming and 3DS/Vita being disappointments kind of reinforced that. Now the market has adjusted to Nintendo rather than the other way around with how much portables are back in style.

It's a culture thing. And when you focus on other things than just making a good product you sway. They liteerally have hiring practices at least in the US that deter them from seeking the most talented person for the job.

Valve and Nintendo have not been swayed by the culture. They have stood strong. And thats why they are successful.

It’s only because Vita flopped. 3DS still sold respectively well in that climate.

But yah things are much better now. With PC portables of all specs and sizes and miniature retro handhelds that adds to the market. MyArcade also just announced GameStation Go earlier today.

honestly believe it would have been available last fall, however Sony was releasing their PS5 Pro and Nintendo doesn't want to have a console in the window of release computing for purchasing. So they are going to wait 3-6 months and release in their own window with no competition.

Just Play some Games maybe? It's not that you'll do anything else on the Switch 2 anyway or am I missing anything Here?

I prefer a Nintendo that completely ignores the other platforms and thinks of its competition as "any other pastime that could claim your attention."

I recall them saying a few years ago that YouTube or doomscrolling or whatever was more their direct competition than whatever Sony/MS happen to be doing at any given time, and I like that way of thinking.

Not "gaming is a genre in which there are a few companies competing over the same kind of thing" but more "we're an entertainment/toy company and we compete with all entertainment."
I've said since the day the PS2 stomped the N64 and the 3DS stomped the Vita and Microsoft stomped themselves that Nintendo is no longer the primary competition.

Nintendo responded to the Leaks:

Nintendo commented on the recent leaks regarding the Switch 2 that have surfaced over the past few weeks in an interview with the Japanese daily newspaper Sankei Shimbun. When asked by the newspaper, Nintendo responded that “the images and videos are not official.” The company did not provide further details on the situation.

According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, the Switch 2 is expected to be revealed by March 31, 2025, at the latest.

It’s why Samsung vs apple, Toyota inspires Honda. You think Nintendo is this amazing tier all by itself and yes the Wii and going motion was a brave move, the second screen on the Wii U was an extreme situation but ultimately inspired the switch, Microsoft learns from Sony, lessons are learned and GAF is telling me “Nintendo doesn’t care” “Nintendo is their own boss” “Nintendo doesn’t have regard for the gaming industry” pure bullshit narrative, competition inspires better evolution in gaming, don’t think Nintendo saw the eye toy and designed the Wii motion?

Look at the switch, it gave Nintendo a new reason to not make a handheld 3ds sequel.

Nintendo afraid of a 700$ console lmao
No but it’s In the same market segment competing for your money in a tough time. Most ps5 pro owner probably have a switch also, but if both are launched simultaneously a good percentage of them may pick the pro over the switch 2.

which may lead to systems sitting on shelves and Nintendo wants a vital can’t find one moment for their switch successor IMHO.

Xbox 360 had an 8 year life and PS4 had a 7 year life. Were people "siding with the corporation" when they were okay with that?

Accessory leaks are all coming from unofficial makers. The companies actually partnering with Nintendo aren't leaking anything.

Everything is weird now. Nintendo has carved out their own market like Disney. They don't need to do anything but be Nintendo. The people playing Switch are perfectly fine still playing Switch. When a Switch 2 comes out, they'll be excited but if they had to play more games on the current system for another 3 years, I don't think much changes.

This generation has the most boring and lackluster video game generation of my lifetime. There's really no need for urgency from anyone. Nothing is going on. Graphics and gameplay are pretty much stagnant.

We all know what a console launch needs; launch titles.

Nintendo clearly already designed and built these Switch 2s. But now they are doing the real work, which is making sure there are games you want to play on it. They are "cooking" as new meme goes, and with cooking there is no such thing as rushing. The food is ready when it is ready, and not before.
