Lance McDonald fully patches Bloodborne to run at 60fps on PS4 PRO and plans to release it if the game is still capped at 30 on PS5

Patch Release and Usage: I'll be releasing this patch publicly once the PlayStation 5 has released and Sony have made it clear whether or not Bloodborne will be enhanced on that system in any way. Out of respect for PlayStation, I want them to have the first chance to put 60fps Bloodborne into the hands of players. This comment will be edited/updated with a download link for the patching utility for Bloodborne v1.09 in the future once this has happened. Obviously, you'll need a way to run unsigned code on a PlayStation console to use the utility once it's released.

Praise the sun.

I sincerely doubt they will go back and patch Bloodborne to unlock the frame rate for PS5. If they do anything, they'll release a remaster with 60fps, 4K support, upgraded textures and lighting, and charge you $70 for the privilege.

Wow... That's just great. This is one of the games I was planning to get to play on my PS5. The messaging on BC for the PS5 is painfully inept.

Well .. it's obvious that Bloodborne will run at 60fps on PS5 , you don't need to be smart to figure that out
For games with uncapped frame rates, sure. But Bloodborne is not so. It's locked at 30 with (I believe) game mechanics/physics tied to the frame rate. I remember seeing a previous video with him running it at 60fps (before he did any additional work) and the game basically ran at 2x speed.

I'm sure they figured out how to make it run at 60

The intro in the linked video in OP actually explains that in simple terms.

Honestly, if one dude can do it on a hacked console it's kind of embarrassing for both Sony and FROM. Unless a real remaster is on its way which would probably make way more sense.

Bloodborne is capped at 30fps, so Sony would have to make a patch for Bloodborne in order for the PS5 to boost to 60fps.

If BB, Sekiro and Dark Souls (1 to 3) don't run at 60 fps on ps5... :messenger_anxious:
1 and 2 shouldn't be an issue because ds1:r is 60fps already and ds2 runs at an unlocked framerate.

ds3, bloodborne need to be patched and hopefully they will (I'm pretty sure sekiro is unlocked hence the 60fps test on series x)

Where has it been confirmed by Sony that there will not be a patch for Bloodborne on Ps5?

Because a lot of you seem to be assuming there isn't going to be one?

Merely raising the frame rate noticeably improves image quality.

The very least Sony could do is cap the frames at 60 and bump the resolution up to 4K.

Yeah. Plenty of sub 30fps games run locked 60 on XSX already. If Bloodbourne gets no free update you know it's Sony's fault and they got greedy.

They wouldn't charge $70 but what a privilege that would be.

Honestly I'd be ok with them just fixing the weird ass frame pacing problem in bloodborne. I want 60 but I'm willing to settle for at least that one fix instead.

Why? If one dude can do it on his free time why would it be ok for a huge company like sony not to be able to do a patch to unlock the frame rate and increase the resolution.

Because its most likely not up to Sony, its up to FROM as they were the ones contracted to develop the game and as such are the ones responsible for the code and any modifications to it. And if FROM don't want to/cant spare the time/manpower at the moment... I'm not sure if Sony could do anything themselves about it.

Its honestly a weird grey area legally speaking. And I honestly hope Lance isn't so foolish as to distribute the patch. You don't bait corporations into situations where they feel obliged for the sake of precedent to act.

Ah okay so this means nothing really.

.....*updates his ignore list*
This is from Sony :
"Be sure to keep the PS5 console updated to the latest system software update available, and apply all available game patches to the game"

I believe Bloodborne will receive a patch on day one, not only that but many games specially the ones on ps plus collection.

Dang do this game looks exceptionally ugly and that constipated running animation straight out of 90' games. :lollipop_poop:

That's what I'm thinking, and hoping.

Same here. I'd love to see Lance's patch adopted, or equaled or bettered by an official update. Its just that basically business is business, and there are certain ways this has to be done for legal and political (in a developer relations sense) considerations.

Lance mentions this only in the video commentary, but to be clear, to achieve this, he had to down the resolution to 720p. The game upscales to 1080p from there, but still.
Still quite an achievement from his story. He had to manually retime a ton of shit.

Yeah, I'm really not counting on FROM to release any kind of PS5 patch for Bloodborne unfortunately. My bet is that we'll be playing the exact same version as always, but I'd LOVE to be wrong on this one.

Sounds like he's trying to get a job interview

Good for him, From Software should hire him if he is able to optimise their game engine so easily
