Based on the award-winning book of the same name, the juxtaposed storylines depicted in "Cloud Atlas" seemed to require its three helmers: Tom Tykwer ("Run Lola Run"), Andy Wachowski and his now-sister Lana Wachowski (both wrote and directed "The Matrix" franchise).

Formerly known as the "Wachowski Brothers," half-comprised of Larry Wachowski -- Larry is now Lana. Lana has been "quietly transitioning genders" over the past decade, according to the L.A. Times. Rumors around Lana Wachowski's sexuality and gender identity have been swirling for nearly a decade. According to reports, she has undergone gender reassignment surgery and has identified herself as "Lana" -- in varying frequency -- for quite some time.

With her hair styled in hot pink dreadlocks, 47-year-old Lana has publicly debut as a woman in this video -- making this the first time a well known film director has publicly changed genders.

pretty sure it's the first time ive heard Lana talk (in that Cloud Atlas introduction) and her voice cracks me up

Saw the video last week. She seems really happy. The Wachowskis have seemed a lot more serious in past interviews (written ones, I'd never heard either of them speak until now) and just in photos.

Looks like your average 30-40 year old woman.
If you're average looking before the transition, it's a bit unfair of others to expect you to look more attractive post-transition.

Good for her, but when you clearly have enough money to spend on all of those surgeries, at least spend a little more and do something about those teeth!

I don't follow this stuff so I'm glad to see this thread. I knew the Wachowski Brothers were behind the Matrix and some other movies, and then I saw the trailer for Cloud Atlas and was confused by "Lana".

Good for her.

Good for her. This is the first film where's she's going by Lana. You don't hear a lot about transgender film directors, especially ones this big and popular.

Wasn't there a character in one of the Matrix movies that was supposed to be a male in Zion, but a female in the Matrix? Switch was the name, I think, but the male in Zion part was changed.

I'd heard about his gender change, but was under the impression nothing was official, it was all rumours etc, so I was pretty surprised to see him as a woman in that video the other day.

Cloud Atlas looks rad, unlike much of GAF, I think SpeedRacer is garbage, but I thought the trailer looked beautiful.

It's funny rewatching the behind the scenes stuff from The Matrix, where Moss goes on about how there's nothing artificial about them and how they're 'just guys!'.
