Pretty fucking depressing to see the Allies turn into the Axis one at a time.
"No chance" is what people said about Trump. Tread carefully. No chance she gets over 50% in the second round. The left and right have always united against the FN to nullify them, it's one of the only things they can agree on although the recent terrorist attacks, underwhelming candidates and voter apathy will make it too close for comfort next year.
Germany please don't do this we'll let you win Every World Cup forever please

What about Macron?
What about him? He has a chance, though being seen as incredibly ambitious might hurt him.
Apples and oranges. If there was a US presidential election round 2, two weeks later with just the top 2 candidates from the 1st round like with France, Trump would lose by a lot. It's a great wake up call for many.
Just be careful, alright? Don't trust any security. 2016 was the year where "impossible" happened. A lot.Apples and oranges. It'll be paifull to see Sarkozy trying to play the anti-establishment card if he win the primary. The winner will still be from the right and will jump on the populism/anti-establishment bandwagon that is working so well right now. That's barely better than Le Pen.
When it comes to Global Warming it's true. China has great interest in genuinly pursuing counter measures. All the people saying china is the good guy now are being sarcastic right?
That's what I'd like to know. Do people on here like him? Does he have a chance at all?
lol, she can't even make peace with her own father
Some of the hyperbole in this thread is astounding. I'm fairly sure every western leader since 1945 has been compared to Hitler at some point or another. If you seriously believe that a Le Pen victory would mean a "new Axis Powers" then you would benefit a lot from opening a history book.
It's like a mirror image of when Obama got elected and people on the right screamed that he was the antichrist, Hitler, or some sign of the end times. I'm not saying Trump = Obama, but the reactions of those on the opposite side of the aisle to each of them, justified or not, are eerily similar.
The sky isn't falling. World War III will never happen, ever. You won't be playing Fallout 4 in real life. The biggest consequence of these changes in leadership will be the eroding of civil rights advancements made in the past decade. While tragic, especially for those directly affected by said changes, it's not equivalent to a war between major powers, which is almost a laughable concept in this day and age.

How much power does the president have in France? There are many European countries like Finland (where I live) where the president makes no decisions and is just a figure head.
Melenchon is the most useless politician dickhead France has right now.Mélenchon 2017!
probably not. Right now all her paths to victory rely on blunders from other parties. She threw that racist ass under the bus to appear more moderate, which is a slightly different strategy from Brexit/Trump. But the French are a different from "Anglo-Saxons", so I wonder if it will pay off. I don't think so, though.
If we get Sarkozy-Le Pen or Hollande-Le Pen (as unlikely as it is right now) I wouldn't be so sure.
Yes, but Russians also have influence in the SPD and not just because they cling to their Ostpolitik, see Gazprom-Gerd Schröder.

Germany and France in 2017, huh?

That makes me physically sick.

Dude, this is the same thing people said with regards to Brexit; I was one of those people saying that. Just because the situations aren't different doesn't mean you don't have to be fearful of the far right in your country. It's sweeping all of Europe, as well as the US. It doesn't help that Hollande's approval is in the shitter right now.
Just be careful, alright? Don't trust any security. 2016 was the year where "impossible" happened. A lot.
France straddles the line between Anglo and Mediterranean Europe, so it should be interesting.
So far, Mediterranean Europe doesn't seem to be in danger of turning too much to the right (although Corsica voted for the Nationalist, so...)
As of now, should MLP make it to the second round, she'd be likely to face Juppé or Fillon on the right and Valls or Macron on the left. Really doubt she'd win against any of these.
Sarkozy/MLP, Hollande/MLP or even Mélenchon/MLP are scary but quite unlikely scenarios.
What about Macron?
I'd say his chances approach zero. I like him, he comes across as smart, eloquent and progressist, but he's way too centrist to appeal to the left, and he's the embodiment of an elite. His centrist anti-establishment approach is interesting, if anything, but under an urban/rural, internationalist/isolationist prism, he would get trounced by a populist like Le Pen.What about him? He has a chance, though being seen as incredibly ambitious might hurt him.
That's my intuition as well, but it might be wishful thinking on my part. He's a reasonable candidate, one people on the left would easily swallow in a "lesser evil" scenario, but at the same time, Le Pen could attack him for the time he's spent being a politician (ie part of the establishment), and depict him as corrupt in light of that case two decades ago.My bet is that Juppe will win primary and the election - which would be an interesting super-establishment choice for france compared to UK/US. I really really hope she does not win in any case.
I'm left-wing but I'd be fine with Juppé, although I'd rather have Macron. Last days polls have me worried that Fillon might be winning the primary though. He's clearly more conservative, and also one of the most pro-russian candidates in his party. My bet is that Juppe will win primary and the election - which would be an interesting super-establishment choice for france compared to UK/US. Unlike all previous leaders? Trump is going to be more friendly to Russia than any of the last presidentsAs the time passes I am more certain we are heading towards a third world war, as all of these guys will try to create their esphere of influence.
AFAIK, there's no specific registration: as long as you're registered to vote, you just have to show up, pay 2, and sign some bullshit pledge. You should vote for the primaries, I don't know if the inscription is closed but you should check it out.
Man we're never gonna get that star trek future are we
I absolutely will ! At first it was only to stop Sarkozy from running again but now I might have to vote Fillon out aswell :/You should vote for the primaries, I don't know if the inscription is closed but you should check it out.

In the same way, I think NKM is one of the most moderate and interesting candidates on the right, for virtue of not being a bigot and actually caring about environmental issues, but outside of major cities, she has no appeal.
I still believe the next two sundays are going to be crucial. I'm annoyed to have to give money to a party that has been so grossly mismanaged, but a lot hangs on this. I really don't want to see Sarkozy running, and the difference between his positions and Le Pen's is pretty thin on some issues.
