Leader Of Mexico's Zetas Drug Cartel Captured

What boggles my mind is that he had $2 million in cash on him. I mean why would anyone need such a huge amount in cash on them? I'm glad they got him. I've heard Mexico City is one of the safest places in Mexico. I don't think this guy will escape.

Not really going to matter if he gets out or not. Organizations that are that large really become automated such to the point that can run on their own even without the head. As others mentioned too most likely there already is someone else in charge as planned in such an event where the head does get captured.
.

Maybe. I saw this posted in the comments section of borderland beat

Just talked to my family in nuevo Laredo.. they live in colonia Victoria i was told there is massive panic and military presence all around the neighborhood and city. My cousin who is not in the drug trade but knows several child hood friends that live by my grand mother house and work for the zetas as halcones / enforcers are freaking with what just happened as there is no apparent leader to take over the cartel. Z40 apparently didn't trust anybody and was complete control of the cartel and had the mentality that he was untouchable ...

Leader of Zetas drug cartel may be extradited to U.S.

That's bullshit if it happens. Considering the severity of the crimes he orchestrated against his countryman they should be the ones to burn him at the stake so to speak. Heck whatever punishment they choose will be far more tame than what happened to his victims.

A raid to a house yielded $210+ millions in cash some years ago:

Its a dog and pony show for the public. Also to try and make up for the huge fuck up Operation Fast & Furious was.

Is there any way to really end the cartels?

Legalizing drugs in the US would cut off most of their funding. They wouldn't be eliminated immediately, but they wouldn't have a massive funding advantage over the Mexican police and military if they weren't making money from American drug users.

It's not like there wasn't a drug trade in Mexico for decades. However, the hyper violence has only really been around for the last decade.

I just want some peace damn it!

So wait, their leader was just casually driving out of their known base of operations with $2 million and eight guns in the truck? Seems like a dumb move on his part.

Well, it aint like some street chump is going to rob him. When your drug organization has billions, why the fuck not.

Lol I'm just trying to figure out his thought process. This guy is packing his suitcases or whatever he pauses 'How much cash do I need to take with me? Hmm... I think 2 mil should do me!'

Um, they don't have base of operations, if they had they would be far easier to catch. Being low profile is the best bet for this criminals. All high profile catches in recent months have been like this, the drug lord travels with a small, but heavily armed group of people, with enough cash to bribe, buy supplies or pay hitmen.

If you have any sort of idea what happens to those who mess with any of the Cartels you would understand why dude just goes about his day the same way every day.

Just one of those times when the luck ran out as with what can happen to any of us in our daily lives.

In other instances as with what was seen with Pablo Escobar in Colombia people loved him since he supported the community also. Which is another layer of protection added which the LE / MIL have to worry about dealing with when trying to set up any sort of operations against such members.

Cant remember which Cartel it was exactly, but there was one where the leader was loved by the community for similar type of reasons and had a huge turnout for his funeral.

Another will come to take his place.

Hopefully the scumbag gets at least some punishment though.

2 million dollars isnt a small amount of money. this guy is the boss. he can do whatever the fuck it is he wants, and if he felt like he needed to personally accompany the money, then that is his prerogative.

I'm glad they caught the guy but when one goes down three more seem to pop up. Is there any way to really end the cartels? I personally don't think so. Seems like they just have to cut the problem down as much as they can.

Only way would be to kill or capture all of them in one fell swoop. Would be nice to see that happen one day. These cartels are responsible for such horrific inhuman things.

I need to remember this is one of my pot smoking friends mentions blood diamonds again.

Shouldn't put the blame on the random pot smoker, instead blame the politicians and lobbyists that allow such ridiculous laws that keep it illegal.

Old story but...
Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera reported head of the Sinaloa cartel in Mexico, ranked 701st on Forbes' yearly report of the wealthiest men alive, and worth an estimated $1 billion, today officially thanked United States politicians for making sure that drugs remain illegal. According to one of his closest confidants, he said, "I couldn't have gotten so stinking rich without George Bush, George Bush Jr., Ronald Reagan, even El Presidente Obama, none of them have the cajones to stand up to all the big money that wants to keep this stuff illegal. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say, Gracias amigos, I owe my whole empire to you."

...........
"Whoever came up with this whole War on Drugs," one of his lieutenants reports he said, "I would like to kiss him on the lips and shake his hand and buy him dinner with caviar and champagne. The War on Drugs is the greatest thing that ever happened to me, and the day they decide to end that war, will be a sad one for me and all of my closest friends. And if you don't believe me, ask those guys whose heads showed up in the ice chests."

This is pretty big news, I mean didn't Lazcano get knocked off less than a year ago? Now Miguel gets taken down as well. I mean don't get me wrong someone else is just going to rise to power you don't get the pull Los Zetas get without having a plan in place for stuff like this.

So he can buy protection and freedom or people wherever he goes.

Anyway, if you ever been to Nuevo Laredo and noticed luxurous trucks filled to the brim by kids in their 14-17s, those are probably the Zetas.

You hear that story about special forces and stuff, but most of the time is poor teenagers that don't have an education, they drug them and give them a gun and they feel like they own the world, or sometimes it's people that get kidnapped and are forced to work for them.

It's basically like the movie "Blood Diamonds"...
