they're not really events, they're just sales
an event is something like bilgewater or shurima, you get story, skins, new champions, new modes or map skins, sales, everything
lunar revel and the project thing aren't big events like those, they're sales, and that's not bad in itself, i wasn't expecting anything huge from lunar revel (tho i would like the personalized shop to be back)
i do find the gambling bullshit to be super tiring and lame but riot's wants that shit in their game super hard so what can you do

Don't the hextech boxes become theme boxes like in overwatch for events in league? They should atleast do that..

Nope, if you want theme boxes you have to invest real money and you have to buy more than one to use the craft system
it wouldn't work cos in league you can get a max of 4 chests a month, while on overwatch you can easily get 2 a day
i guess 4 chests is better than nothing but it wouldn't be a straight upgrade like in overwatch since in league a lot of the regular skins are good enough already. also the themed skins in league aren't overprized to fucking jupiter and back like that fucking 3000 coins tracer skin that blizzard mercifully allowed people to buy with coins
riot does sell special themed chests so if u really want to gamble for a lunar revel skin you have that option
there should be a free option for sure
these things remind me of that time that steam had that auction house event thing
just like these shitty gambling events, it was meant to exploit people that don't know better, but also since it costed money it alienated the majority of the playerbase at the same time
so it feels like a rich people's game, except the only rich people here are riot and valve (and blizzard) tricking people into gambling away their money

these are what are called 'references', you create a skin that's inspired by something as a homage. you know, like when steven's universe references anime or whatever
steven universe didn't "rip off" that scene from the end of evangelion, they're just referencing cos they think it's cool, and doing a cool new original spin on it
there's as big difference between that and plagiarism which is what you're saying
mecha malphite looking like an eva is a homage, super galaxy rumble looking like a gurren lagann character is also a homage, as is both riot doing dynasty warrior style designs
and i gotta repeat it, this is extra hilarious if you put it in the context of anyone stealing anything off blizzard
Yeah I think I opened like one chest during the event so it wasn't really meaningful and you would be better off purchasing chests if you wanted to actually do some crafting, but at least there were some dropped themed chests.

I agree, Riot is one of the worst offenders when it comes to rip-off based companies. Do we really need to remember how 70% of the original cast were "references" to popular culture/videogame icons? I mean it wouldn't be so bad if they stopped, but it's 2017 and they're still going strong with the "homages". Their philosophy seems to be:
- Hey guys what's hot these days?
- Splatoon sir
- Cool, make an "homage"
Pool party Lulu is created.
- Yo guys I just watched Attack on Titan, we need to rip that shit off
- Right away sir, we'll shoehorn something into our new champion Camille
It really doesn't do them any favors, especially when they have artists who can and have come up with some pretty good designs of their own. The whole silly skins is getting out of hand too. I mean we're getting to a point where the most frequent skins are silly thematic shit like baker pantheon or pool party graves.
Riot just can't balance (in any way), there's a thin line between good occasional fun and stupid in your face "fun". There's also an even thinner line between paying homage to something and ripping off that they cross all the time.
