I feel bad about tearing into a game's visuals based on off-screen footage, but there's some horrifyingly ugly stuff in the video. Some really bad LOD moments, extremely simplistic geometry, and most notably low quality textures with atrocious blending work. They are really trying to hide some of this stuff with the grass tech and it's not working.

What's your favourite adventure game?
dont have any that I can think of. Dont think ive played very many

It was always about discovery and puzzle-solving and using minor action to transition between these, but then occasionally with great boss fights.

But whatever it used to be Nintendo has been heavily emphasizing that they're breaking the norm of Zelda with this game.
If its more action oriented im in
Nice vid but too many spoilers so I had to stop watching. Will probably finish some of the older ones some time

They weren't planning on showing this until E3. It obviously wasn't ready. That's why all the footage is off-screen. Be happy we got something, at least.

My highlight was the banter. "So where's Starfox" "It'll be out before your game":

I agree with the LOD stuff, but nothing seemed atrocious.

Yeah, that's what I noticed as well. There were some really bad textures there, which is probably the reason they went with offscreen gameplay.

No doubt it'll look better on the final build, but right now it needs work.

It looked okay.

Not gonna lie, it looked very empty and lifeless, and when he used the zoom in thing, image quality was poor.

Anyways, still have hopes and it's not finished development yet.

Seems like you just don't like the franchise...I mean, if you had said this after only playing WW I'd be like "Yeah, I get where you're coming from.", but TP is far from being a simple game.

As far as I'm concerned the true strength of the Zelda series comes from the harmony between it's fantastic player mechanics, non-disposable item mechanics, and it's puzzle/obstacle course-based level design (Elements that are abundant in TP); if Zelda didn't have those things, it would be a pretty generic fantasy action game.
Also, one can easily find stuff like "discovery" or "adventure" in other video games but the core gameplay elements that I just mentioned are what's unique and engaging about LoZ.
There aren't too many action adventure games that do what Zelda does. A lot of the big mainstream action-adventure titles that we get are way more focused on fighting than climbing/jumping/running or time traveling to solve puzzles; LoZ always feels like a breath of fresh air in this regard.

You hit the nail on the head

Holy shit, it looks beautiful.

And the trees don't look retarded like they did in Skyward Sword.

Negative Nancy here

1) were they really reacting to a green screen? Wow.

2) bad rock texture, copy and pasted trees, world felt empty, grass could take a cue from Flower.

Otherwise? I'm hyped, but was more hyped by the last trailer. This is too weird, I guess we are supposed to gush over miyamoto but I rather let the music and the trailer do the talking.

You guys sometimes... :p

This is just to show a bit of gameplay. This does not mean they won't populate the world. Of course they are still working on this. The negativity here kind of reminds me of SM3DW initial reveal.

Hard t see the imagequality from that distance. And, it dodn't look very atmospheric and even a bit empty.
I'm sure it will be allright and an amazing game, but i',m not overwhelmed yet.

I loved the horses and the animations and i can't wait to explore the world.

Being completely blunt now, I'll go as far as to say it looked like one of those early-access games on Steam

that is such a stretch.

Well no you lost me there. Worst offender for me would be the blocky geometry especially when zooming in.

What? No. They were actually sitting there playing the game and talking about it. If you're wondering why their chat sounded so awkward, blame the guys who translated it.

Surprised at the people saying it looks empty. This isn't like OoT or TP where you have long fields of nothing but grass. You have tons of trees, bushes, and other landforms to traverse around. Not to mention we already saw quite a few enemies and Epona has some girl horses to play with.

The most important aspect of a Zelda overworld is a sense of exploration. I think the moment on top of the cliff (that emulates the 1986 art) absolutely nails that feeling, as does most of what I saw from the horse riding. Packing the world with a bunch of enemies you have to kill every time you pass by would be tedious and annoying. Give me a couple towns, some neat ruins to explore, a few secret caves, interesting NPCs to interact with, and the occasional one-off feature that helps define a certain region (like the wild horses, for instance) and I'm happy. I really don't know what other people are looking for.

I do agree that the rock textures, while not "bad" imo, do look unimpressive.

But the world is just so bright, colorful and vibrant. Especially in the day time. Love the way the sky looks.

edit: oh wait, saw the textures on the rock wall (from the side), and yeah that looks pretty bad. :/

This video goes out of its way to explain that traversal is simplified.

You surely must have played an adventure game that you've enjoyed?
I dont know if these games count as action adventure though. I enjoyed ass creed 2/brotherhood, batman games, latest tomb raider not the older ones, gta etc.

Usually the action aspect I enjoy more than the adventure

Epona is a girl & lol at the hyperbole in this thread. It looks stunning. Lighting is awesome and the animations of the horses are outstanding.

Absolutely. I think what we've seen so far has nailed this, and feels very true to the original Zelda titles. What I didn't like about Skyward Sword's sky realm was not simply its emptiness, but the fact that, from the central hub town, you could see that there is little out there to explore - there's no real sense of mystery and adventure when it's obvious that the sky is mostly a sterile, lifeless expanse of floating rocks. The lands below the clouds felt like disconnected obstacle courses, rather than living, breathing worlds.

Vaulting seems really cool and hopefully they bring back some of the special sword techniques from the wind waker and twilight princess.

Doesn't look like Zelda.

People said that about the wind waker, mostly over the cell shading but there are still tons of people who enjoyed it in the end and despite the great sea.

I like that wild horse they ran across; nice touch.

Me too. Hopefully they will include a horse catching\taming\naming sequence, and hopefully you can catch the horse you want. I was always kind of bumed out that I could not use the other brown horses in oot.

Also to fill the world we will probably get to see more goats\sheep and herders like in the E3 snippet.

As for my hopes for world filling; the postman making runs between settlements towns and maybe give him some siblings, all our favorite races show up and maybe give one of them a offshoot tribe like fresh and saltwater zoras being in competition or humans and hylians, fishing opportunities in lakes, ocean and rivers, islands to swim to, a hidden witch hut for buying potions, a farm or two, a small town by a bridge with a defense tower, enemy camps and raiding parties, maybe some hermit\monk retreat up in a mountain, tingle floating around offering you maps, Keaton spots and quite a few caves and ruins that are a bit hidden with puzzles to get a a prize.

Edit: And fairy fountains, graveyards, mysterious spots without any real kind of explanation (like big fairy spots in oot, I never figured them out!), some wraping portals\platforms, golden skultullas, monkeys, roaming dogs, abandoned carts with items to be returned to the owner, a moving Beedle tent\traveling market. Oh I'm so exited, I hope they at least do one of these.

So while I agree that it looked empty I'm still full of hope!

Looks fantastic... very pretty game. Gameplay is looking solid, just going they iron out a few graphical issues before launch. Ground textures could use a bit of work and a bit higher res terrain maybe? It honestly wouldn't matter to me if not though.

Very hyped for this.

No it does look a bit barren and even uninspired. I assume it just isn't finished yet. There is too little attention to detail that always give the nintendo gams that little extra. I'm sure there will be in the end.

The areas with the tall grass really remind me of Kameo, which oddly enough was what I was hoping the first HD Zelda would look like.

Wow. The forced negativity in this thread is just mind-blowing. Game still has months of development left, and was shown in a pre-release state, probably because fans have been bitching that they want to see more of ZeldaU non-stop since E3.

Game looks absolutely fantastic. Lighting, colors, movement all seem great. Just downright jaw-dropping and artistically more impressive than most games out there right now on superior hardware.

What about the traversal is simplified? You have a horse and you can control it. Do you guys think epona was just a cab? ^^ Watch again and listen this time. :D
