Mark my words, this time around Link is a lone wanderer without a place to call home, just traversing the lands until he comes across his destiny. That would be neat and kind of explain his wanderer outfit and hood.

Lets hope it. New to this land, just arriving with Epona, a tent and a fishing rod. Nothing else.
(The Sword is then given you by an old man in a cave)

Sorry to see motion controls probably not making a return for this game, especially after Miyamoto's comments from back when SS released, saying he doesn't think they could go back to regular sword combat.

But if it was a tradeoff between that and an open world, I'm ok with it.

What if this is the Hero of Time when he returned to Hyrule years after defeating Majora?

Link is righ-handed in this game. This has to mean motion-control will at least be an option.

I thought that Link never went back to Hyrule, and that is why the lands were flooded?

In the timeline following majora, the land never gets flooded. Link apparently never got recognised for his deeds in hyrule and became the hero's shade in twilight princess.

In the adult link timeline following OoT, Majora's mask never happens and Hyrule gets flooded which leads to Wind Waker.

Wind Waker occurs in a different timeline from Majora's Mask - MM is on the child timeline (the universe that Link returned to when he travelled back in time, placed the Master Sword back in its pedestal, told Zelda about what would happen and stopped Ganondorf before he attacked Hyrule Castle), while WW is on the adult timeline (in which Ganon was defeated by the adult Hero of Time, who then vanished because he returned back to his own childhood).

Edit: Beaten lol.

If motion controls is an option, I hope players using standard controls will still be able to swing the sword in precise directions, maybe by flicking the right stick while Z-targeting? It's not like anyone is going to use it for camera controls when doing that anyway.

The lake hylia part kind of blew my mind. It might put the game much closer to twilight princess than I thought, in terms of chronology.

I'm goig with Majora's Mask -> Zelda U -> Twilight Princess

They are releasing MM 3D before this game, and i hope there will be some hidden Zelda U easter eggs like SS in OoT3D before. And maybe something more to link the games?...

But I didn't mark death mountain - we don't even see it here. I just marked another mountain. Death Mountain is waaaay to the north.

May I suggest we start naming mountains and label them on each new pic? ;D

I propose: Death Mountain, Dragon Rock, Split (River) Mountain, Border Ridge

720p60 I can dream.

3D Zelda won't be 60fps.

It's 720/30 for obvious reasons.

This is Nintendo. There is a trick.

You are already dead.

Dead Island did that wonderfully. It's one of genuinely cool things about that game. Analog melee combat. It wouldn't work for SS specifically but for a new game taking it into account and not having everything from puzzles to combat designed around it, they could do it.

I loved SS's motion based combat and would gladly settle for a Pikmin 3-style command center approach with Wiimote Nunchuk + GamePad on a stand for touch interactions.

The only part connecting it to TP is the bridge itself. The lake's shape and outgoing river is directly based on the Zelda 1 map, as had been brought up here multiple times.

Just adding to the Hyrule geographical study...

EDIT: Actually I think Link is a bit further to the South-East.

One of the reasons I like this is because this makes Death Mountain one of the "See those mountains in the distance? If you walk far enough, you can reach them" points Aonuma mentioned. If we had known then just how far away that place was, some of the unimpressed may indeed have been.

The Splatoon screens were 1440p, for some reason. The Zelda screens were 1080p.

So if the Hyrule Warriors inspiration stuff is true, I think the overworld is gonna be a lot more lively than we think.

You mean like having things happen even when Link isn't there? Wasn't a huge part of MM the fact that scripted events were running whether you were there or not?

"Hey Rinku! Here's an urgent letter from Kakariko. They say a horde of monsters are laying siege to the city. They need your help!"

At which point you can either go yourself or send one of your allies (Impa/Zelda/Sheik/NewChar) who might be currently closer to the situation to help out. Cycle through randomized scenarios. Profit.

And the fact that the clock is displayed at all times points to that. Why else would the game WANT you to know what time it is?

Things happen while you're not there in portions of a OoT/WW where time flows. Jogger in hyrule field in OoT. Ghost ship in WW.

Not much, but it was something. Weirdly enough, I don't think anything happened on its own in Twilight princess, despire hyrule field et al having time flow normally.

I certainly expect that wildlife will be affected by day/night. Hopefully NPCs have paths they travel, too. Especially some sort of shopkeeper (while I love you, beedle, please don't be in this one, you felt SO out of place in skyward sword).

Splatoon screens were 1440p because those are promo shots that they use in magazines. every nintendo game that has these shots are because they are about to be used in magazines and various other places. not actually meant to represent the game fully.

A personal favorite of mine would be the story between OoT and Wind Waker, where hyrule gets flooded/destroyed in the end, just because I think it's such an important/interesting periode that has only been referenced. With Wind Waker HD on WiiU this could make a coherent back to back zelda experience.

It would be interesting to see what the state of the world was like during that era but it's not doable. The reason why the world was flooded was
because there was no Link to fight
. That really takes it out of the running.

I love GameXplain's videos. They pulled a LOT from the 4 minutes of gameplay.

That's why
you're not playing as Link this game. You're a girl! That manly voice is just placeholder!

The ghost ship was awesome.

I want to see a giant spirit ghost appear at night in this game with no explanation. With creepy mysterious music...and when you get close it disappears.

I really hope the next footage we get has some clear music so that I can get a taste of how the soundtrack is shaping up. Also looking forward to some dungeon footage. Guys, I'm genuinely convinced that EAD may well be making the best open world game ever, perhaps the best game ever. My hype is in overload and I'm riding it to the moon with nothing but a Wii U gamepad. Roaming bosses, random events, hidden secrets, plenty of things to do in the overworld, an in-game time system that works on hours, 60 frames.

This is going to be something special, my friends.

I guess at least some events will be related to the time.. otherwise, they could just show time like in OoT.

I wonder if there will be seasons too

You're overhyping yourself with nonsense. The "best" open world or overall game stuff is meaningless because it's entirely subjective anyway and you will spend hours arguing with people who prefer other games and then there's the simple fact that the game won't be 60fps.

Any theories on where in time line this might be taking place? :)

Look at the previous page.

Why would I spent hours arguing with people about my own opinion on the internet? Only idiots do that. That's what you're doing right now, arguing with my opinion. But why? What does it earn you? Where are these false accolades that get given to you for arguing against my opinion? The fact of the matter is that I'm hyped for this game, very hyped. Why do you have such a problem with that that you felt the need to reply in this way?

Let me have my moment, guy.

I disagree. The hero did not show up/failed according to legend(*), but I could see this as a link sacrificing himself to help the gods flow hyrule, while princess zelda/the king help their people get to the mountain tops. It would neatly tie all of this together.

(* actually ganon couldn't be defeated directly because the master sword lost it's power - so the only way to "defeat" him was by flooding hyrule [which got protected in a time bubble - this can be explained by a timeshift stone]. Windwaker-link fixes this by awakening two new sages to power the master sword)
