So I'm gonna preface this by saying that, I know nothing about archery or hunting, but I had a random thought, but what if the cloak is just there to help with Links eyesight? like a baseball cap. I say this because in the demo and in the E3 footage he's only seen wearing the cloak while on horseback and during the "day", whereas in the parts of the demo where it isn't straight day he doesn't have it, and if the game is drawing a lot of focus to the bow, maybe in the game he starts out as like a highly skilled archer or comes from a group of hunters, or archers as I don't think they'ed introduce hunting to Zelda, that all wear similar cloaks. Basically, what if the cloak is just something that's tied to a specific time of day?

Might have some holes, but it's just a random thought I had. Feel free to point out if it's dumb or stuff. :P

I believe the cloak, more than the bow & arrow, will have something to do with the story.

Well from what we've seen, it doesn't appear to play any role in the gameplay, so maybe it is important for the first part of the game, but I really don't think it's any sorta of major importance or there to hide Link, considering nothing really changes when he doesn't have it.
Watch princess mononokoe you will get a good understanding where some of the game concepts are from. The cloak probably means nothing much but to hide identity when in certain areas/towns.
I don't want to sound rude or anything by this next line, so sorry if it comes out that way, but while I get that the game is inspired by the animation, I don't think it'd be borrowing plot ideas, though I could be wrong. Then again though, it wouldn't be the first time that Link was feared by townsfolk, so maybe the plot starts out similarly to ALttP in that he's wrongly framed, and once he proves himself than he gets the green tunic and has no need for the cloak, I just thought that it was an interesting correlation that he only seems to wear it during broad daylight.

Also, lol I've always wanted to watch some of the miyazaki films, but I never have the time, and when I do I forget to watch them, however since I've got a break from class, I think I'll watch Mononokoe tomorrow.

Something less political.. lol

I would choose both :P

Remember in Zelda how you're always walking through miles of and miles of featureless grass plains? Can't wait!

I seriously can´t wait. No QTEs, no corridors, just wandering around.
There dont even need to be dungoens for me. There, i said it.

And Nausicaä. Watch Nausicaä. If Aonuma really got some inspiration from these two i don´t need another game in my life ever again.
Just imagine riding Nausicaä's glider in this, Just imagine it!

I think Link looks pretty sharp in blue. Granted I wouldn't mind if he got his tunic later on, but he doesn't need it to be a competent character.

I like the new blue tunic a lot, but I would also love to see what Link's classic outfit would look like in HD and in this new style. Ideally the blue tunic would be the outfit you wear before getting the green tunic, but you can wear it throughout the whole game by playing Hero Mode. That was one little bonus that I felt was missing in Skyward Sword. I really hope it makes it back into this game (assuming the blue tunic actually is the introductory outfit, that is).

I worked really hard on this color correction.

The video is around 300MB at 720p 10Mbps. Optimal viewing is to play it in VLC by doing the following:

  • click video
  • uncheck "always fit to window"
  • zoom "1:2 half"

That should put it at 640 x 360 which is roughly close to the size of the gifs in this thread. There is really good clarity this way! You can even see Miyamoto's reflection occasionally.

I tried to make it come as close as possible to the E3 trailer, referencing everything I could. The blue of Link's clothes and the brown of his hair should closely match this photo in the right lighting. http://www.zeldadungeon.net/wiki/images/d/d7/Zelda-wii-u-link-720.jpg

I didn't add any sharpening to it but anyone else can if they want. Feel free to adjust anything you feel might be off and make all the gifs you want!

All in all I think it looks good for off-screen footage. Now if you'll excuse me, I need some sleep @_@

Man,the grass and trees make such a difference in the feel of the overworld.

Also, it's easy to guess why Link's in blue in this one instead of green. In green, he would blend in, which is probably something Nintendo doesn't want.

He would blend in on foot perhaps (I doubt it with all his gear, shield, etc), but he's on a big black horse here, not easy to miss really...

Another color-corrected gif

Epona's animations are beautiful!

Awesome. Thanks for the work! The animations are beautiful already indeed. And it looks very lush in your GIFs. None of the early flat texture work to be seen.
Peon seems to be quite bothered with that piece of metal in her mouth, lol

My god, you're right. I didn't even know link was in this picture until I looked hard enough. He was impossible to see with that green tunic.

No but seriously, giving him a green tunic isn't going to make him blend in. That's not a real excuse. These are very likely his starting clothes, nothing more.

Lol, will do. I need to catch up on some of them anyways since I think the only Miyazaki film I've seen is Spirited Away.

And about the tunic, outside of wanting the green because I honestly think it just looks cooler and it's a big part of Link, I honestly also want it because I'm not a fan of the hair style they gave Link, it's basically the same thing he's always had, but I think the added ponytail with the added Classic Link side bang length is causing some conflict in the design. It's trying too many things at once and I honestly don't like it, so hopefully he maybe cuts the ponytail off at one point or hopefully we get the green tunic to just cover it.

So with that in mind #TeamOptionalWithTheGreenTunicAndExtraTunicsThatGrantAbilities

Thank you so much for doing this! I can imagine all the hard work. Will download for sure!

I don't know, usually when Nintendo reveals a new Zelda game, Link is in his green tunic. We've seen two videos of this game so far and not once did we see Link in the green tunic.

So either it comes only much later in the game, or it's optional as an upgrade and it won't be in there at all.

Technically, we've only gotten two gameplay videos, and we know for a fact that the second one is very early on, with Link only having five hearts, and we don't know the base or how many they got via pieces of heart or potential bosses, hell both could easily be right next to the start of the game. Plus, the first trailer of ST started off with Link in the conductor outfit, and didn't show him in his green tunic till nearly the end of the minute long trailer, so it's possible that we'll get an actual trailer soon that actually shows the green tunic.

This kinda sounds condescending or a bit rude, sorry bout that.

for everything skyward sword did wrong, it did a few things right ..

I'm talking about the Sprint meter . .IT NEEDS to return for this game. the age of rolling is OVER pls bring back the sprint meter. it would suit this game really well

Nah I didn't like the sprint meter, just be able to run normally like in anything else.

Wasn't some big problem, but it's one of the very few things I didn't care for.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what little of the game we’ve seen so far and what it might mean for the story, setting and themes of the game that we’ll see once it’s finished. I haven’t read through every page of this thread but I imagine something similar to this has been posted.

Skyward Sword spoilers below.

I think the game will be a direct follow up to SS. In SS’s ending Link and Zelda remove the evil that was tainting the land below and they talk about returning the people of the Sky to live in the new land which they call Hyrule. I imagine that this game takes place shortly afterwards with the same Link or maybe a generation or two after. It deals with the people of Skyloft readjusting to this frontier-like Hyrule, full of mystery and intrigue. Most of the land below the clouds was tainted by Demise. It’s been hundreds of years since it has had any kind of civilization other than Bobokins and the likes.

(While I don’t necessarily think that the final overworld will be sparse and empty like a few have suggested) A relatively empty overworld might support this ‘new world theory’.

What if Link in this game is a mapmaker/explorer? Maybe building the map is a key component of the game. Link sets out from one of the earliest settlements in Hyrule tasked with exploring the new land. I think this would really meld the gameplay (openworld/exploration) into the theme and story of the game in a pretty unique way. Our Link could be the first to make contact with the Goron and Zora tribes who have lost all memories of the humans who escaped to the Sky. Maybe part of the game play could involve setting up colonies and settlements in various parts of the world map. Maybe Link can build up a town like Xenoblade’s Colony 6? Maybe it’s Kakariko Village?

Link might discover ancient temples from a time long before Demise cursed the land. He might discover ruins and artifacts of the people who lived before. We’ve already seen the Lanayru Desert robots and the initial trailer we saw showed link fighting what looked like another robot. What if remnants of this advanced civilization exist all over the overworld and provide clues to the history of the land that is now called Hyrule.

Obviously I could be completely off on this, but I honestly think this would be a very interesting direction for the game to go in. An obvious negative of this would mean that there wouldn’t be many towns on the world map, or there might just be one large town and the rest of the map is undiscovered country.

A thought just popped into my head. Was thinking that since the look of this game reminds me so much of Princess Mononoke, how would you guys feel if Zelda was more like San in terms of her design and character?

I don't think they will do away with the green tunic completely but i think it will be found much later than usual. I also hope for a return of different tunics, having different abilities.

It Would be nice to get optional swords and upgraded items hidden in optional dungeons and from side quests too.

I'd think Nausicaa would be a better thing for zelda to go for but if they could pull it off, more power to them. BTW those pictures reminded me that i need to buy that Princess mononoke blu-ray which just released in the usa a lil bit ago.

*Princess Mononoke stuff*

Oooh, what if she has a giant wolf mount (or some other awesome beast) too? Can you imagine riding side by side across those beautiful fields with Zelda on a giant wolf?

Shit's insane.

There's a castle in the E3 footage, which leads me to believe that she'll be a princess, though she could have been exiled.

This is what I'm thinking, in that at the start of the game you'll get a story introduction and then immediately be able to go anywhere probably by means of a story reason like being thrown out of your village or something, and then later on you'll get the tunic. Because in most games you receive it in the starting village, so maybe in this one, you'll get it in a dungeon or maybe in Hyrule Castle or something.

Zelda will be the leader of a tribe of wild people and somewhere in the game we'll learn that she's the actual heir to the throne and whoever is sitting on it right now is a fraud.
