LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

Shiny things as in silver? Lots of things break that. Benny's spaceship, the Portal turret, and the Simpsons car can all do it. Probably a bunch of others too.

There is also gold and cracked walls which could be considered shiny, but there are a decent number of characters that can do that too.

Doesn't the Wicked Witch break through steel / silver bricks as well?

She breaks shiny things, if those are the same as steel. She's really powerful.

I dunno! I thought I read in this thread that the raptor was the only thing that could break through steel but if it's the Witch too, then I guess just go for that one unless you wanna unlock the Jurassic World.. uh.. world.

Right? Is that how it works? Like there's specific level packs for like full blow story mode expansions but then each franchise also has kind of a hub world to explore that you can only access with a character from said franchise, right? Hence why you need the Wicked Witch to access the Oz world, and the Scooby-Doo pack to access their world?

I take it Ninjago and LotR and Chima also have hub worlds to explore too? Bummer if so since I... don't really care about those... at all.

That's right except I wouldn't call the level packs "full blown expansions". They're pretty short.

Yes Wicked Witch breaks silver bricks. She's actually a bit of game cheat to be honest. She breaks silver, she works on magic (those starry areas you would use gandalf for), she illuminates (like gandalf), she mind controls and she flies. Until Superman comes out shes like the most powerful fig right now. I would say the next most useful would be Cyborg.

This target sale is awesome. I still need to get the Jurassic World team pack and I need Legolas for his Target and Pole abilities. MAYBE Emmett for his drill but I know i'm going to get Bane when he comes out so as long as I can wait it out i'm fine.

Edit: Just my two cents the BttF was the weakest level pack but the Delorean is useful and the hub world for BttF is pretty good. Simpsons was ok but picking up Bart or Krusty if you want either of those figs wouldn't be a bad idea to just get the hub world. Portal Level is second best pack so far, great hub world and the level pack was a neat side scrolling version of Portal. Also Chell comes in handy with Portal only puzzles. Everyone should pick up Dr. Who Level Pack if you haven't already. It should be an automatic get with every starter pack purchase. The story level is great and creepy and the hub world is so huge and multi-layered. Plus the Tardis has a unique ability and K-9 is very useful for mass destruction and melting gold bricks.

Doctor Who and Portal are must-haves. At that price the BttF set is probably worth it too, if for no other reason than to have a Micro Build of the DeLorean and a special Hoverboard piece. Then the Wicked Witch so you can unlock the Wizard of Oz world. I'd say the Scooby-Doo team pack is a good buy, and apparently right now the raptor from the Jurassic World team pack is the only thing that can break through steel to get special bricks.

Cool thanks for the info will be getting the Jurassic World Team Pack, Doctor Who and Portal..what do you think of the Simpsons pack worth getting? I love the Simpsons so figured it would be able to do something neat

Worth mentioning that this is inaccurate. You can price-match OR get the GCU discount but not both.
That is true if you ask them to price match but Best Buy is putting them on sale 20% off to match Target sale that is what I meant so the GCU work. I ordered almost the entire Lego Dimensions with the discount plus sale this morning. Sorry for the confusion.

Is this still a thing?

So I got lego dimension for xbox one for my wife's birthday (which is a couple weeks away) We have a PS4, an Xbone and a Wii U. The Xbone is hers ( i bought it for her birthday last year) and the wii u is both of ours). I also got her guitar hero for her birthday and she's mentioned that she wants "all kid friendly games on the Wii U.

So now I think I should return my xbone version and get the wii u instead but what are the graphical chenges? I have lego marvel superheros on ps4 and to me it looks much better than lego jurassic park on Wii U.
IS the the frame rate stable, does it look good? These are the important questions

Keep the Xbox One version. New content will be added constantly and the Xone will manage that much better than the Wii U version.

Yeah I'm favoring keeping the xbox one version from going through this thread and some others this issue was brought up as well as the frame rate being better on xbox one

Ok, I am officially in.

Got the Stater Pack for the Xbox One from Amazon together with Portal and BTTF levels and the Wicked Witch.

Took advantage from the Target sale and ordered Dr. Who and Simpsons level packs, plus Scooby fun pack (big fan).

Anything else that I needed to enjoy the game right now? I am planning to get more packs (possible all) next March, since I have to save a little, I got also Skylanders Superchargers (with lots of vehicles) and the new Star Wars stuff from Disney Infinity. These toys to life games...

The Wicked Witch is very useful and became a full replacement for Gandalf. Plus she's the only one who unlocks the Wizard of Oz hub.

The gyrosphere is the only vehicle that can unlock certain switches, so it's very useful for that. You have Scooby, so Owen's tracking isn't that necessary.

Oh well, I tried to get it from target, but is store inventary is kind of shit. It constantly goes out of stock online just to get back half an hour later. Trying to order those 4 packs in the same order was nearly impossible. Well, there is amazon too, but a for a little more.

Each time i read this thread it REALLY makes me want to get started with Dimensions but... i also wanted to play Lego Marvel, and JW first before delving into this one... Too many Lego games (and games in general) to juggle ugh 1stworldproblems

Just worried the first wave will go away and i will miss out or something

I am also worried about missing packs since I can only buy the rest of the stuff next March.

If it is just like Disney Infinity they will continue to provide everything until the next game. If it is like Skylanders, you have to get the current wave as soon as possible... Only time will tell.

Yeah but we don't know that like you said :( So i guess to be on the safe side for now i will grab the "essential" packs for now, which are.... Portal, Dr Who, and maybe the Wicked Witch, correct?

Yes, but anyone working on retail may give us some clue.

The way the store orders and receives the pack boxes. Skylanders are ship in mixed boxes, with different quantities of the wave characters insidr. Some characters had a single pack per box, thus becaming rare, while others are shipped in dozens. Usually the store does not order more while it still have the ones with great quantities per box, otherwise the store will have a really big inventory of those packs.

Disney Infinity are shipped with a single type of pack per box. So tje retailers can order more from the ones that sold better. This way nocharacter become rare or out of stock.

By the way the online stores seems to e running their inventory it seems that Lego follows Disney approach, which is great. But can anyone confirm it?

Just picked this up for my son on 360 and we're both enjoying it so far, A much better game than what I've played of Disney Infinity. I'm glad they've patched in the "Hire a Hero" feature since I would find the constant "you need to buy this character to do this" messages poor form for a £70 game otherwise.

I don't think it's particularly good value wise. If for example you've got the Simpsons level pack already then £15 for a Bart Simpson minifigure and skateboard and in game character is way too steep, especially since you could get a LEGO Bart figure in one of those packs they sell for £2-£3. Paying essentially £10 for an in game character after playing all the other standard Lego games for years is a big jump.

I do have a couple of questions though;

Have they announced the long term plans for this yet? Can we expect a Lego Dimensions 2 next year or are they likely to just keep adding content? At some point I'd like to probably have it on PS4 too since the figures are platform agnostic (I'm guessing that like Disney Infinity the bases won't be though) but I don't mind waiting a year until a second version is out and jumping over then.

How long are the level packs? I've heard they're quite short but given their price and the relatively small amount of LEGO you get in them I'd be hoping they are at least 6 hours or so for the story. Am I going to be disappointed?

The value is in the three in one vehicle rather than the figure. You upgrade the vehicles to unlock the ingame instruction manual to rebuild it into a new form, and you can do that twice per vehicle for three forms total. I don't think that's something you can easily replicate by buying off the shelf Lego, and it's where I think the value is. My son has been pretty enthusiastic about the builds, so it's been worth it for me.

If you feel you can avoid the obssessive nature of having to unlock every puzzle in the game thats not a bad start. I would probably throw the Scooby team pack in there.

Oh man....hate to break it to you, but story content is more like 20 mins to an hour long. Check out Back to the Future level on youtube, 20 mins long no exaggeration. The real draw is the exploreable hub you get as well.

Ouch, I got the game more for my son but I would have been tempted to pick up the Back to the Future, Simpsons and Ghostbusters story packs for myself but not for that little a story. Maybe I'll pick up fun packs to access the world's at some point.

Still haven't started this. I think I've been subconsciously avoiding it because of all the set-up since I don't like building things.

I want to play through it soon, though, and then sell it.

You don't HAVE to build anything, you can just use the usb base and the minifigure bases if you really want (and it might help the re-sale value), but I think you're missing out.

Just finished the story campaign with my son tonight (I think it's the best story mode I've played in a LEGO game) and I see your point about the vehicles, especially for my son since he seemed really excited about the upgrades.

I'm still a little mixed overall, I think because we may have been spoilt with previous lego games and that they fall in price so quickly. I could buy LEGO Hobbit/Marvel/Batman 3 on PS4 now for less than the price of one of the fun packs (which might not even grant me a new area)
I think it would be a lot better if the minifigures could level up too like the Infinity ones (for example the suits for Batman from the older games and extra hearts) That way you could be invested in a new figure even if they didn't grant you any new abilities.

Will be interesting to see how it holds up long term too, I see that there's a lot of gold bricks to get (Nearly 500?) but once you've got them, or at least the ones you have access to with the packs you're interested in I'm not sure whats going to keep people coming back. Anyone think we could get a Infinity Toy Box style mode in a future version? Because I would spend countless hours in that.

has anybody had a problem getting the batmobile to appear right at the very beginning? it looks like i'm supposed to build the portal, then switch to bats, and then the directions pop up immediately, but that's not happening. am i missing something?

About to order a copy of Lego Dimension from Toys R Us since it's on sale ($40). Was going to get Disney Infinity 3.0 for the Star Wars toys now that I'm riding a Star Wars high but glad I waited until I got home as I didn't care for the gameplay in past play sets. However I do enjoy the Lego games and the last one I really spent a LOT of time in was Lego City Undercover

Do we know how well the game sold?

Will still be support supported?

How does the Wii U version play?

Also I've never seen it explicitly said anywhere but does this game have a toy box mode equivalent where you can build your own world or not? Or is it just the Adventure World hubs? I'm assuming they have quest, activities, etc right?

Thanks.

Well, they did improved things in 3.0. Wasn't a big fan on the previous ones, but the Star Wars games in 3.0 are all really fun and well done too. Played the first two before Force Awakens, and just finished the one based on TFA moments ago.

Regarding your questions:
-Not much details on sales. It debuted well in the UK and many sites mentioned it, but nothing else and it went on sales/discounts faster.

-Support supported? :p
If anything, is their intention to continue supporting it as a platform. But who knows. That has been the intention of others like Disney Infinity in the past, but never a reality.

-Wii U version plays like the rest. Gamepad is barely used outside a plain menu. One player can play on the TV and the other on the gamepad. Performance is good, though some have reported problems with framerate and crashes (but also on every platform).

-No toybox equivalent in-game. Just adventure and hubs, side missioms, minigames, tons of studs to collect. It plays like every Lego game (not named City Undercover, for better or worse).

You do have (well can) build the Legos, so technically is a real-life toybox. :p

Didn't one of the LEGO Indiana Jones games have some sort of level builder in it? I think Dimensions really needs to add something like that in to maintain peoples interest long term. It would provide more unlockablesm more value to packs and infinite levels.

Nobody ever answers when I ask this :'(

What do you want to know? For Portal as an example it took about an hour to grab enough studs to max out the bar, you could do it quicker with red blocks though. There's still a load of content in the hub such as gold blocks and unlockables but some of these require other characters. There's enough content to keep you going in a themed world for a few hours at least once you're completed the level.

I just wanted to know what the average time was to complete the adventure worlds. I read a lot of people complaining about the Back to the Future level pack being really short, but if the adventure world has a good chunk of playtime then I might be willing to overlook that, if you see what I mean.

Thanks for answering :)

Well, with thanks to my partner's birthday, we're now deep in Lego Dimensions... it's her favourite series and she's played most Lego games, so this is perfect. So far, we've got the base set and Simpsons, with Doctor Who and Portal to come at Christmas. Suspect Scooby and Midway may follow in the coming months - nice to know there's more we can get at our own pace.

So far in the story, just did the Portal level. The main game is reaally impressing me, a few glitches aside. But it's creative, varied and funny. Like, I just did the bit where you make X-PO out of the bits from the physical portal, I really liked that. Does he go anywhere? Turns out as he can't fly in real life he's right now just... like, leaning on the side of my portal. But hey.

Back to the Future level is pretty short, but the hub is kind of tripled in size as it's across three time zones so there's time travelling switches to meddle with. Same goes for Doctor Who. The Simpsons is about 30 minutes so in line with the the episode it's based on but still quite a lot to explore including two unexpected locations (but only accessible with the Tardis). Doctor Who & Portal have a lot of love poured into them from big fans of those universes. Portal has possibly my most favourite cameo of anything ever near the end and I've probably spent the most time in this world.

Nah, I think I reattached him to a little sticky out bit. His appearance was a nice surprise though, my son made the portal so I didn't even notice him.

I'm getting the Simpsons level pack off my brother for Christmas, so I guess that means I'll have to get the Dr Who pack for the tardis so I can access those other two unexpected areas. My poor poor bank account. I need to buy the Scooby pack as well so I can get access to that adventure world.

Don't change figures on the portal while it's loading levels. Mine just crashed and corrupted my saved. Lost an entire afternoons work

I had this problem and couldn't figure it out. I put in Marty instead and got him to build the DeLorean to proceed.
