LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

The open worlds I'm most interested in seeing at this point are Portal and Doctor Who... as it isn't initially obvious to me what they would look like. Portal isn't an open game in it's game design and in its spaces within the world, and Doctor Who obviously needs the TARDIS but will it have different areas that are different time periods?

Lego or no, the level packs for £26.99 for a reported hour of gameplay is insane

It depends on if you already have any figures from that franchise or not. That gets you a story mission, a mini fig, two mini sets and access to that character's open world, which should offer up at least another hour's gameplay if not more.

Of course, you can only look at it that way if you don't already have someone from that world. One of the reasons I didn't buy any of the Lego Movie fun packs, is because I already have access to that world with Wildstyle, unlike the Wicked Witch who for $15 gets you into free roaming Oz.

Had managed to avoid my kids seeing the ads for this, failed miserably yesterday. They're both Lego fiends and haven't shit up alloy it since they saw the ads.

Santa last I guess.

But you also get Minifigs and Microscale stuff. As any Lego Thread visitor could tell you, some people would spend way more than that if they'd be exclusive :p

Seriously though, you're mostly paying for the Lego part, not the game part.

Edit: What exactly do you guys mean when you mention the "open world" of a respective character, and what's the difference between that and it's "level"?

I get that, I do. I'm not saying it would have been easy management decision level wise but I dearly wish theyd worked out a game only option at a cheaper buy in (I understand why from a business perspective level that haven't on launch though)

Amazing OT! Just got home with mine, 5.5 GB patch on PS4 yikes.

Weird..Xbox One's patch was 4.1gb. But that is a hell of a big patch for a game on day 1. My retail friend did tell me that they had the starter packs for over 3 weeks now, so if you consider manufacturing, packing and shipping, they must of had these starter pack ready almost 2 months ago, so another one of those "ship that fucker as is, we will patch in the rest of the game by launch" scenarios.

Watch the video I linked a few posts back. Every franchise has a small open world representing it. You gain access to it with a mini fig from that franchise. This is separate to the story mode and any levels in level packs. There are challenges, races, mini missions and stuff in these small open worlds that try to offer a distilled down 'best of' version of that franchise's world.

The video of Oz gives you a good idea of the scale of one of them. They're a decent size, though far from the size of open worlds we expect to see in any given game these days.

The level in a level pack, is a regular sized Lego game level, with a short story focused on whichever minifig comes with the level pack.

I really want to play the Portal, Ghostbusters, BTTF and Scooby levels. But it's so expensive.

If they don't go rare they could be fun to pick up once in a while for a $30 hit. I don't want to be running around spending hundred on everything at once due to fear they will be sold out.

Chiming in, my PS4 patch is also 4.1GB.
The models are actual Lego pieces you build. So the price point makes sense considering you can use them outside the game.
Mainly Lego pieces are overpriced in general yes, but they sell. So this will sell buckets.
Edit: It jumped to 5.412 during update, dammit

I really hope it doesn't turn out like Amiibos. I doubt it since they've been making Lego forever, they have the factories to turn them out like hot cakes.

Also,
NoA artifically creates demand :p

Did anyone else's starter pack not show how to build the Batmobile? I has instructions for portal and figures but ummmmm... I'm not seeing for the vehicle.

Eventually some of this content will have to leave shelves to make remove for new content. As long as is stays up long enough to at least go on sale once or twice.

I literally just noticed that this very second.

Edit: The numbered layout for Lego bags is interesting.

Aha! Cool, that video helped a lot! Thank you :)

Man, if this thing would be just 5-10 euros less expensive per set lol

Here is a twitch stream of the game. A guy playing with his daughter - he's level 3 right now. He seems to have fun...

http://www.twitch.tv/vgpod

From the looks of it, I like this game the most, from the toys to live games. But I'd never buy it a full price. Portal and BttF packs are hopefully still available when there's a good deal on the base pack.

For those that don't want to spend a ton on this stuff, you can just buy the Starter pack, which does allow you to complete the game with everything that comes with it. Yeah, there are open worlds that you may not be able to access, but those other figs can be bought later.

I did splurge a bit and bought close to $280.00 worth of stuff. I bought my stuff at Toys R Us since they were offering a $10.00 gift card for the starter set and when you spend $35 or more on figures you also get a $10.00 gift card, so was able to get $50.00 in gift card when it was all said and done.

Also GCU works on everything Lego Dimensions at Best Buy. So, if you have a GCU membership you can save 20% on the games and all add-ons you chose.

I'm really interested in the storylines of BttF, Dr Who, Ghostbusters and Portal but honestly I think Youtube is going to be the solution unless it drops in price significantly in the future.

As a PC gamer, I caved and bought... LEGO Batman 3. $10 for it and all DLC? Why not!

I'll finally grab a PS4 around Black Friday.

OT might be helped by the reminder that the instructions for most building is in the game. Which means unless you know lego it will be a bit before you can do much because the game has to install.
Our Best Buy had so many people returning it(and the level packs) in anger that they started having a special phone greeting. Makes sense when many players would be installing the game while thinking they can put things together beforehand. Just a combo of bad timing for most.

This is pretty much like any other Lego games except that now you actually have to purchase each individual Lego action figure. I kinda feel ripped purchasing the Portal playset for $30. Didn't seem to have enough game in it...

Have you finished the playset then? Much replay value?

Well, the actual portal thing from the starter pack has the instructions. If people are just buying this stuff for the figures and not the game I am sure instructions will find their way online in good time.

Honestly, sitting down here and putting together some Lego is the most soothing thing ever. I get why adults are into it. It's no different than doing a jigsaw puzzle. It's relaxing.

Patch took as long as building the portal.

The LEDs are pretty...

I would rather help people than arbitrarily have data not available and from the looks of both the facebook and twitter and other forums. Its a huge issue. No problem with adding relevant data to an OT to make sure they aren't disappointed.

Oh, I'm not saying it's a problem to let people know at all.

It's not like there is nothing to do while the game is installing though. The actual portal thing takes some time to build.

People do need to educate themselves on how this works though. Providing the relevant information is a good thing. I wouldn't argue with that.

Book says instructions are in the game to build. IDK why.

It is part of the intro/learning of the game. At one point in the game it gives you the instructions on building the batmobile, since it says one of Batmans specialty things is building complex items or something like that. Very charming game so far and it looks pretty damn good so far.

Still trying to figure out where the instructions are for the turret and comp cube. Instructions are in game and my son and I are going in circles. Doesn't seem worth the price for the small sets.

I think I am sold. Way more positive reception than I thought...this year is insane:

Persona 4 DAN Disco Fever Edition
Fallout 4 Collector's Edition
Lego Dimensions

At this point, I'm waiting (and hoping) for a Black Friday markdown. Hope the Doctor Who pack doesn't get scalped to hell.

This isn't amiibo i doubt you will have to worry about any of these sets being scaled.

0 pegs were even half empty at 4 different stores i went to do (also looking for force awakens stuff) and i didn't even go into a wal-mart which will probably have way more stock than Target. And as far as i know none of this stuff is sold out online.

Watching a live twitch feed and I'm really impressed. It's way less "kids oriented" gameplay than I though.

Yeah, some puzzles are pretty challenging as well. Me and my wife were playing and we got stuck for a little bit figuring out how to get to a certain spot. I also do like how different this seems than Infinity or Skylanders so far. I really think it was smart on how they designed the portal where it was needed to solve some of the puzzles by moving figures to different locations on the portal.

The only odd thing I found is that in the main menu under messages, they list a news flash that there was an update and to check the bulletin board for patch details etc...so when you go to the bulletin board, it just mentions what the bulletin board is, but nothing about the 4.1gb patch etc.

Considering that their whole design plan is "patch later" (unlike Disney Infinity, they'll patch in support for the next few years of sets instead of selling you a new disc annually), I'm not surprised. They're just starting early, is all. ;)

At least they have an out in the form of that "Internet Connection Required" label on the box.
