LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

I'm trying to decide between this and Disney Infinity for Christmas. My kid likes Lego games, but I've read glowing reviews about DI 3.0 and the contents of the playsets, while I've heard that LD is... a Lego game at its core, the same formula it's been used for the last 10 years. Which is not a bad thing, but I get tired of those after a while.

If I get LD I will definitely not let my boy play with the toys yet because his main playstyle consists in smashing toys on the floor, but he loves Lego Marvel

if you're not gonna let your kid play with legos you probably want to skip on Lego Dimensions, since a core aspect of the gameplay is playing with and building the lego figures and vehicles

Oh, I will... in a couple years time. He's on the "DESTROY!" phase now and I'm not keen on letting him play with a 120€ Lego kit :P

The Doctor Who level in the main campaign was just fantastic. Great atmosphere, shows what range the Who Universe has. Would love a full Lego Doctor Who game!

Anyone tell me how to get in to Moria in the LOTR Hub wolrd? I came across the entrance, but the wall is bricked up with a few holes in so I can see through and there are studs in there etc. No block popped up to tell me only certain characters could knock the wall down :/

How do I write something in the 'got em' box?
You just put an "x" in the "Own" column, and the row will switch the orange to green for the abilities you now have. Also the ability column will switch all the other oranges for sets you don't have to lighter green.

This is what it looks like with my current and planned-future purchases:

How? This does not work in the Spreadsheet.

Hmm I can't do that on Google docs on my phone. It doesn't allow me to type. I've tried it on my iPad and I can export it to a excel file and I can put the x's in but the abilities don't change. I'll work it out with a pen and paper in work on Monday.

I downloaded the file straight from dropbox and opened it in excel and the formulas worked.

I just checked and Google spreadsheets definitely can't handle the formulas correctly. Hell, it can't even display the vertical labels :/

This game wasn't even on my radar until I read this thread, damn you all.

The problem is, and I imagine other people might have this, is that I have great fatigue of the whole Lego gameplay style. Whilst I enjoyed Lego Jurassic World, I started to get a bit tired of it towards the end and it became rather repetitive. I can never usually be bothered to hunt down the golden bricks either, and the lack of challenge bothers me, yet despite all these qualms I'm still intrigued. A 12 ish hour campaign sounds decent enough, and I never had Lego as a kid so I kinda want to start now.

How long are the extra level packs?

I think I might try get it in December once I've got Halo and Tomb Raider out the way.

There are Portal fans who will never play Lego Dimensions who really need to know about the end of Lego Dimensions. There must be a way to tell people about it in an appropriate way without risk of spoilers to those who will play Lego Dimensions.

the portal writers said it's noncanonical in terms of any future, official games, so i wouldn't worry about it too much

that said, portal fans should definitely check out dimensions and the Portal pack

The Portal level (main game not add on) was amazing. Usurped the Doctor Who level as my favorite. A full LEGO Portal game could be quite amazing.

Finally got this, been out of town for a while.

Just a thing about the length that may or may not have been addressed, I bought the Portal pack because, well, Portal Lego and played through that after the first level. The level took about an hour I guess, but now there's a Portal/Aperture open world kind of thing which still has some stuff to do so it's not quite as short as some have exclaimed.

Also, Batman riding a Laser Turret through Hobbitown is priceless.

Only complaint is the need to move stuff about on the portal quite often as it would have been nice to have a wireless portal instead. I'll manage I guess.

My additional figures (courtesy of rakuten 25x points arrived). Scooby and the mystery machine are great, plus having a figure that can deep sea dive is very useful. The underwater of dc universe is great!

Wonder Woman can also dive, though for her it sometimes counts as flying. The downside is that every time she flies the game plays a theme song. Every time. Which can get quite annoying.

Batman rides a Hoverboard through Aperture Science. I am more entertained by this than by the time I spent with Arkham Knight.

Even though it's just an adaption of an episode, I really liked the simpsons level pack. Probably helps that the episode is a personal favourite of mine!

"Don't quit your day job chief, whatever that is"

Classic.

So I picked up the starter set and the BTTF level set. I figure they have Lego making down pat by now, no rush. There will be stock for years to come, I can pick up a small amount of Legos once in a while when the mood strikes.

The hard part is those Star Wars Infinity figures are looking nice as well.

I'd say the opposite - Lego sets, or at least licensed ones, don't seem to stick around for more than a year or so before they're no longer available.

That's by choice, though. The stuff they're making for Dimensions shouldn't end up subject to the shortages that plague Amiibo, for example, where they just can't produce enough to meet demand. Lego already has a handle on that stuff.

That was the reason I decided to grab the BTTF, Simpsons and Portal packs before I got the game, just in case they disppeared from shelves before I jumped in and actually bought the starter set.
But then I got weak and bought the starter set at the same time.
No regrets.

There was a LEGO shortage last Christmas and it looks like we're coming up on another one this year...

Think I'm definitely gonna get this for Xmas I've decided. All the positive word in mouth in here has got me in the mood for it. Hopefully the price might have come down by then too.

Soo, played through the Portal level in game and found it a bit tricky at first as I was trying to solve the puzzles and not wreck them as in every other Lego game. Anyway, just wanted to mention the unexpected guest in the end sequence.

Seriously, wow. Probably one of the last things I expected to see in a videogame.

Also, bonus pic:

Normally I would agree with you, but these are expansion packs to the game, not just additional characters. I don't think they're going to discontinue content for the game the same way they discontinue sets, or even possibly just the character packs. Unless they made some kind of DLC unlock in the future, I can't imagine them just not making the level packs after a few months or a year or two. That's a huge amount of on-disc content that would be permanently locked away. I think people would be pretty pissed if in a year they buy the starter pack and they can't access the Back to the Future or Simpsons levels advertised right there on the box.

Anecdotal and another company, but I was just in TRU today and they still have all the figures, discs, and level packs from Disney Infinity 1, and that was 3 releases ago.

The portal stuff is one of the main reasons I want to pick this up.

After being redirected around Birmingham a few times, my Lego Portal set has turned up :)

Will likely try to finish the main game first before trying this out, only got a few worlds left I believe.

LEGO has always been a different beast though. If you don't get a set before it goes out of print, you won't ever see it again except on eBay and Amazon resellers' pages. You may be right as far as the DI thing goes, but somehow I don't see Dimensions being the same way.

Just built the the mini digger in Emmett's pack and it is absolutely amazing. The amount of detail and character packed in it is great. It's actually a shame that that is the vehicle I want to upgrade straight away to the constructo mech

The wicked witch is so fun to play as. Flying feels superb. About 3/4 of the way through the game. Just played through the
midway arcade
level. Really unique fun. Can't wait for the level pack and adventure world. If they're anything like the maingamr level they could be the best lego dimension related things.

I've also just finished that one, the Cybermen turning up in
Robotron
was unexpected and also kind of hilarious.

Just finished the story, great experience overall. Honestly I love how all the IPs interacted. I could be Batman on the Hoverboard in Aperture Science...how cool is that :)

Going to explore the hub worlds and buy level packs in the future for sure.

The credit song too. Soooooo goood. I love the heavy presence
Portal
had.
