LEGO Dimensions |OT| Not Lost Dimensions

I enjoy it a lot. There are some different kinds of considerations, though.

Is it a good value compared to other AAA games? Yes and no. The base game has a lot of content, but once you start adding the physical "DLC," the cost starts to balloon.

Is it a good value compared to other LEGO games? I would say definitely no here. If you like LEGO games and there are other good ones out there that you haven't played yet. I would get those first. Most of the LEGO games are pretty similar and LEGO dimensions is not really different in that regard.

Is it a good value compared to other toys to life games? Yes. I think it is by far the best toys to life game out there both in terms of gameplay as well as post release support.

Overall, I don't think the the expansion packs are quite worth the cost. The LEGO sets take as long to build as a polybag and the add on levels are generally shorter than other forms of DLC. It's the combination of the two that drives the price higher and it's fair if you combine both of those experiences, but it doesn't always feel like a good value.

I think Fun packs are the best value at 12 bucks and open up the open world adventure worlds. Level packs give you an extra mini model, and a story level for more than twice the price (and the difference in quality between the story levels can be pretty stark).

You know, the thing is, I would probably enjoy this and buy different packs when there's a buy 1 get 1 deal (like there currently is on Target). I don't think if I got this that I would be buying packs left and right especially when there's others games I could play in the meanwhile and then come back to the game later on if I decide to pick up a pack again. It seems supported really well, it's just that this game seems really fun and that's kind of rare for a T-2-L game.

Keep in mind if you are a completionist in game in regards to minikits and gold bricks you will be locked out of a lot of content.

I do think fun packs are the best place to start.

Sales are definitely the way to go as they are pretty regular and can easily hit 50% off if you have GCU from Best Buy. I would never pay full price for these as they are discounted so often.

My only complaint about the game is the constant character swapping. If you come directly from a regular Lego game that will be a paibX But if it looks fun to you, definitely go for it.

I get mine in deals TRU UK have a deal buy 3 get the third 3 on level packs at the minute so bought some I need. Best to wait for deals.

Thank you for bringing this Toys R Us deal to my attention. I'm going to get ordering once I've got my finances sorted..

Just got into this with the sales. I have a friend that can get me add-ons at half price. Mostly got into it for the sonic kit.
So far I have:
Simpsons level (and Bart)
Midway Arcade
Portal
The lego movie (Unicorn and officer)

I see from playing the Simpson level in the story mode that I need a character that explodes and one that can spin. Anyone else essential just for the base abilities? I see you all mention Wonder Woman too.

Cyberman and Aquaman were pretty much the heavy hitters when the game first came out. It looks like Jake the Dog should be added to that list pretty definitively.

Edit: Looking into it more Wonderwoman can do everything Batman can plus more. She's good for combinations. Slimer also seems to be pretty versatile.

Anyone having problems accessing the new content? Bought the Adventure Time pack but can't actually jump through the gate with Finn -- he just goes through the other side. There's no way to select it to download in the new Content Manager either. There's a back button, but nothing else.

I'm on PS4 with the latest patch. Any ideas?

Who can blow up out of them? I also know I need a screw person too. I wish I had known when they were on that insane target sale in August.

I honestly don't know what abilities you are talking about. Nobody blows up as an ability unless you mean get big. As for the screw thing, the Ninjago ability does that, I guess. If you're talking about the Simpsons level it doesn't look like you need any of those anyway. To 100% Simpsons bonus level you need Digging, laser, relic detection, tow bar, hacking, super strength, TARDIS, technology, Portal abilities, and Atlantis pool.

This website should help. It's not 100% accurate especially in regards to the newest updates but it's still pretty helpful.

For some reason my Cyborg is unable to grab orange handles and pull them off. I tried hire-a-hero and have Bane attempt but he just shrugged as well.

I brought in the vehicle that comes with Cyborg and it was able to do the job but I'm very concerned that I can't do it with my figures :/

I've got the same problem, are you also outside US/North America? I'm pretty sure it has something to do with that

Did you transform before trying?

BA Baracus can throw dynamite to blow things up but I don't think that's needed in the Simpsons level. Must be something else.

Stuck during the Adventure Time level on PS4;

During the second half of the level, you need to scale around the castle, and there's a pancake bouncepad you need to jump on.

I jump on it, and Finn comes back down, and the game doesn't continue. I reset it a few times and the same issue happens.

Regarding the Simpsons and a character that can explode... wouldn't that be the Taunt-O-Vision that comes with Homer's level pack? It's a walking TV that explodes when you lift it off the portal.

Man, the new stuff is pretty buggy, even for a Lego game - half the prompts and stuff aren't working for me in the Harry Potter world (Grimmauld Place door, pumpkins outside the Borrow for example), they just stand there animating forever. Sigh.

I had similar problems the first time I loaded everything up, but Playing it again later it seemed to work itself out.

I got most of my Target order the other day finally. Everything except the HP pack which made me very disappointed, shouldn't be backordered because I preordered the damn thing. Anyways built the GB story pack and here is some pics.

Like the sliding doors build. Surprised that they started using some advanced techniques in these builds. I actually like the idea of these story packs from a standpoint of an AFOL. It's a great reminder that these are still Lego sets and there is more to these than just game levels.

I also enjoyed these awning builds. It reminded me of the Palace Cinema modular building. Which by the way if anyone playing Dimensions really enjoyed this build I would highly recommend picking up that Lego set to scratch your itch.

Gret fig and the Ecto build was actually pretty good little build too. I like the improved pack build for the fig. They added one of the new ingot pieces and it feels and looks good.

Here's a bonus B.A. shot

Also if anyone hasn't picked up the Ghostbusters story pack yet I uploaded a couple gameplay videos from PS4 to youtube. They are from the first chapter in two parts and include some B.A. gameplay as well. I messed up and lost the first part of the video because I didn't know the increments of time it recorded back to. I also have uncontrollable OCD so I have to get all the studs and find secrets so I might spoil some secrets in the vids so fair warning, also the last vid has the boss battle for the first chapter. If anyone wants me to post more vids let me know and I will keep them coming.

Yeah, I am. Surely they're not behind some kind of region lock with staggered release dates?

I seriously doubt that, the most likely answer is they screwed up in a bunch of regions in some way, not deploying the update files to the relevant PSNs, pointing the game to the wrong server for that version of the game causing the whole process to the stuff up or something similar. At any rate it's a mess

Finished up the GB2016 level pack tonight and I highly recommend it, not just for the pack itself but for the adventure world that goes with it too. Some really fun boss fights, tons of new voicework (an advantage it has over some other packs) and lots of good variety. Nothing that felt empty or like filler.

Plus the lego build for the new portal that comes with it is just a ton of fun to put together and looks really great.

I've heard a LOT of bug reports revolving around the new levels, specifically Adventure Time. Hopefully we get a patch soon. All I've seen is the A Team level but I haven't had any issues yet.

I had two crashes this evening in Adventure Time, that took me to the MS dashboard.

Ya, a patch is coming shortly..hopefully. Awesome level though!

Adventure Time hasn't given me any problems, but I did unintentionally sequence break the Mission Impossible level (i got past an 'impassable' fire by putting it out with Aquaman and then glitching my way through it with rapid character-swapping) which rendered it unable to be completed, and I've run into some minor bugs in the Ghostbusters 2016 levels and world. Nothing that wrecks the game, things are still very playable, but it's a little rough. I'm really thankful that you can jump to checkpoints mid-chapter now, since otherwise I'd probably have to replay the entirety of the MI level instead of just restarting the portion where I broke things.

If anyone's on the fence it's probably not a bad idea to wait until the next wave or major patch comes out to jump in. They'll probably be cleaned up by then.

How are the Jurassic Park/World dimmension games?

Any place where i can read a summary? I love the franchise and I'm curious about what the levels are but have no space/intention on getting Dimensions.

Jurassic World doesn't have a level, just an open world section. If I remember right, the main campaign doesn't even have a Jurassic world segment; one of the few franchises in the first wave to not be represented. The open world part is alright... It doesn't have anything from Jurassic park, just the new movie. It's a modest recreation of the park from the movie. There are some dinosaurs walking/swimming around, including the indomitus rex to watch out for. Honestly, it's probably one of my least favorite open world areas. It also has some of the worst character/vehicles to buy (in my opinion). The orb vehicle is slow, but has a (until recently) unique ability to activate orb switches. One of the minifigs is also just a generic park worker, which is weird considering all the other characters there could have been. And to drive it all home, the character Chris Pratt played in the movie isn't voiced by him, despite them already having him voice Emit from the Lego Movie set. The dinosaur mount/vehicle is pretty cool though, one of my favorites.

There is the separate Jurassic Park/World lego game. It's much better than what is in dimensions, and costs about the same as the team pack you need to unlock stuff in dimensions. It's honestly also one of the weaker Lego games (in my opinion), and I haven't played all the way through it, but if you're looking for Jurassic Park + Lego video game, it's easily the better option.

My big brother has the game for XBox 360 and when he tried to download the different world packs (he had to come to my place, because his internet wasn't good enough for such big downloads), most of the time it went to 99%, then back to 98% and after that it failed. I think he only got Ghostbuster that worked, is there a way around this? It says the files are corrupted, so naturally they don't work. He tried downloading the files multiple times, but it always failed.

Nice find. Dr Who and Portal 2 level packs are 50% off. So are Scooby Doo and Jurassic World team packs. I would jump on these if I didn't already have them. Plus VIPs get double points right now. Pretty good deal.

Very nice find! There are a few other Ninjago characters marked down as well.

There seem to be some local deals going on as well - I was in a Lego store this weekend, and they had Scooby Doo/Wonder Woman on sale for half price. This was before the online store had these prices.

Edit: Picked up the Dr Who and Jurassic World packs for me, and a couple Ninjago guys for my son.

I gotta say - I was really on the fence with this game when it first was announced. It seemed pricey for what you got. Once the giant sales hit in August, I took a leap and have been having a lot of fun with my son.

I've been jumping on the various packs once they hit 50% off, and I think that's the sweet spot for value/dollar. $6/fun pack is still a little on the expensive side, but you're getting a special minifig and some in game content. And even when the game isn't supported, the Lego pieces are going to be getting a lot of use.

Noob question.

Interested in this but...

Do I actually need to buy these toys to play as them? There are no general characters you can play as? Or does buying these packs of figures just add like DLC level content like stages or what?

You need to buy all figures you want to play with, except that the Ghostbusters let you play all four from one of the figures. Each figure also unlocks a hub world for their franchise, and the level pack/story pack figures also unlock that content.

The figures are literally just Lego though. The active part is the tag they stand on. Basically, you could buy just the tag off Bricklink and unlock stuff that way. I did that for some figures I already owned from other Lego sets.

The basic game comes with three figures and you can always complete the stories with them (in the case of level packs, that character is also needed). Extra characters are only necessary for clearing every single objective.

Finally got round to starting my Year 2 collection for this game. Picked up Ghostbusters Story Pack and both the Adventure Time packs, started up the game, built my Adventure Time fun pack models and had a quick look at the arena mode. Had to leave it there so closed it all down.

I've just gone back to my game, and my playtime on the save has been wiped, I loaded up my save, the level select menu is completely blocked out, all I can do is jump through the portal to the first level.

I wondered what would happen if I played through the level so I tried it, when starting the level it has a record of me getting all of the collectibles in it so my save data has something in there, but on completing the level I have the same issue, I cannot go to the level select screen and jumping through the portal just takes me to the first level again, the lift to the adventure worlds is open but doesnt work.

Has anyone had this issue and managed to resolve it?

Has anyone had any experience with faulty tags?

Basically I just got the Lego Dimensions Starter set since it finally dropped in price in the UK. However, the Wyldstyle character tag seems faulty, as it just isn't scanning in. Eventually the game seemed to just give up and move on without her but I'm thinking it'll probably stop progress eventually when she can't be used.

Does it mean I'm going to have to box it all up and ship it back? :|

That exact thing happened to me.
Call up Warner Bros and they should send you a replacement.

Ah thanks.

Looks like the lines have shut already. Sent them a ticket and if they don't respond before the lines close tomorrow I'll have to give them a call while I'm at work.

Doesn't even seem like I can play level packs since you need Wyldstyle to open up the portal. Sigh.

I had the same thing happen with a generic toy tag, and communicated via email with them. They asked me to answer a few troublshoot questions, and send a picture. of the playset, and receipt for the game. I told them I didn't have the receipt for the game anymore (because I didn't), and they sent me a new tag anyway.
