LEGO |OT 3| Build Hard. Buy Fast. No Mercy.

gonna hit up the lego shop at lunchtime. if there's no exo-suits I'll start windmilling. or buy an AT-AT instead.

I'm gonna do the exact same thing, except with a Mini Cooper. Good luck to you on your exo-suit hunt.

So I made this over the weekend:

This is my second fully studless MOC. I was an avid LEGO builder as a kid and I lost my interest when these studless parts came. Now many many years after I got this urge to start building again and this time using these studless parts. In April I bought 3 large LEGO sets for some parts to get started and experiment different things. I build my first studless RC car but it was nothing special. Structurally weak and powerless...and ugly as hell. A few months of training and I was able to pull this off.

Here's a short video of it in action.

First things first, I build this durability in mind. Our friends and siblings have a lot of kids and when they visit us they want to drive with my creations of course. My first car was so wrecked after 15 minutes when the kids drove around with it so I was not going to make the same mistake again. So that big ass front bumper is there to protect the wheels and the steering mechanism =)

I'm very satisfied with this one, it's sturdy, fast and responsive. There's much to improve of course and I'm just itching to break it apart and start building something new and better =D

Very nice work. Very nice.

Any chance of them selling the exo suit early in the US or is it just a Europe thing?
There is supposedly a hard sell date of Aug 1st... but seems like every time there are some people who manage to get a store to sell them. I wouldn't bank on it though!

Buy online and rest easy.

I checked my local store yesterday in GA. No luck on them selling the exo-suit early. Just to spite them I bought the Mini cooper and a discount AT-AP. That'll show emm...

Friend will be giving it to me on Thursday before GotG. Can't wait.

Here's a photo he took to tease me...

Sweet! Did your friend stand in line to get that for you? If so, that is one awesome friend!

I'm taking my son to see GotG this weekend. Once the movie gets out we're going to head to the LEGO store and pick up the GotG sets. We'll probably have to buy 2 of the Knowhere sets, as I'm sure he'll want his own Rocket and Groot once he has seen them in the movie.

Actually, his uncle and dad were at SDCC so his uncle bought it. Not sure if he had to wait though as his uncle has an exhibitor's badge for the con I believe.

But yeah, at least I got the set.

I wonder how Lego decides where to open up their stores. I mean, it sucks being in central cal where we have no Lego store while both north and southern cal have all the stores.

Double strike !!!

I got 2 because the manager of the Lego Paris store is a real nice girl. She's real cute, too. That's weird.

Which part is weird: that she is nice or cute and working at a LEGO store?

Congrats regardless. Im suoer jealous, especially since its my birthday and I can't buy LEGO sets today.

Wait that's a thing? I wound up doing that on accident but if it's tradition I'll just claim I was in on it the whole time...

The plus side of getting stuck in the rain was that I felt a little less disgusting after, at least. :p
Haha, I've just heard so many comments from people that SDCC is just a gigantic gathering of geek/nerd stereotypes who live in their parents' basements, live on Mountain Dew and Doritos, never shower, don't use deodorant, watch My Little Pony etcetera etcetera. The only time that I noticed any type of geek/nerd "smell" was when we were going up the escalators on the Thursday to get our badges and there was a subtle smell that reminded me of my stinky hockey equipment bag from when I was a kid. Other than that, no real smells thank goodness.

I did accidentally meet and befriend a Comic-Con stereotype on the Friday. I was looking for my wife in the morning in the Sails Pavillion where they do the autographs because Hasbro was giving out their toy store vouchers there. I couldn't find the Hasbro booth there and I was looking at the Hasbro exclusive order form at the instructions on how to get the vouchers when this really weird looking guy walked up to me. He was wearing a white dirty lab coat, some kind of furry-type hat and thick glasses. He asked me if I had managed to get a Hasbro voucher and I said no. He then said that he had lined up very early that morning and he had acquired one himself that was good to use after 4:00 that day. He then kindly offered to buy some stuff for me if I wanted. We then arranged to meet later on at the Hasbro line-up in the main exhibit hall. By the way, his name was Ernst. So my wife, daughter and I spent the next several hours having loads of fun in the exhibit hall and then I popped over to the Hasbro line at 3:30. Amazingly, the Hasbro people let me jump in line with Ernst even though I didn't have a voucher. I quickly found out that Ernst wasn't offering to buy me stuff on his voucher out of the goodness of his little heart. I was planning on getting the Jabba ($70) and the My Little Pony Mane-iac figure ($54) for my daughter. I was just going to give Ernst $130 so that he'd have a little extra for his trouble. It quickly became evident to me that Ernst expected me to pay for a second My Little Pony Mane-iac figure for him. He told me that he was a Brony (he actually used that term to describe himself) and he actually had attended the My Little Pony panel earlier that day. After much back and forth regarding how we were going to split the payment (I was politely trying to hint to him that I was NOT going to pay $54 for him), he reluctantly agreed to the $6 extra that I was willing to give him. It was still difficult to decide on how to pay the cashier because he didn't have any cash on him at all and he only had a Discover card on him that he wasn't sure would work because his mother was closely watching his spending on the card. Yes, I warned you that this guy was a stereotype. So anyway, his card worked (thank goodness) and he got what he wanted and I got what I wanted. The socially-awkward Ernst then walked off into the sunset without even saying goodbye after I tried multiple times to thank him.

San Diego Comic Con survey from LEGO:

Here's your chance WordAssassin
I am SO filling that survey out RIGHT NOW.

EDIT: I just finished taking that survey. I basically repeated what I said in my earlier rant minus the swearing. Thanks for posting the link, BB.

I wish these exclusives would come to Chicago Comic Con while NOT being jacked up in price by third party vendors :(

I wish that the sets they made were just "ComiCon Exclusive" so that they'd be available at all ComiCons, not just San Diego.

Basically let more people get the chance to buy the goddamn sets.

*trundles off to fill out that survey*

You should be happy there are stores near enough to you. I would kill for just 1 store in Australia, even if I had to fly for hours to get there. I've emailed Lego about it and they just give me the run around. I guess there aren't any plans to get one in Aus ever.

so the exo-suit is cool but I feel like I couldn't let the kids touch it cos shit will definitely fall off. Especially the hands, which are just held on by the friction of lightsaber stick in a hole.

Definitely one for the shelf.

Could you mod it to make it more sturdy without sacrificing much of the appeal?

EDIT: replaced image with larger version.
Pig guy is cool (much like all the animal costume ones) but I'm not really feeling this one. I mean the jester was cool back when the Castle advent calendar came out and it was new. Now it's old hat.

That Mini Cooper looks cool. I have VIP points so I may consider getting that as my infrequent purchase of the year.

This Orthanc MOC I am working on is starting to get more expensive than planned :/ Just put in another 100 dollar bricklink order and I've barely started building it, still working on the base. I have a lot of what I need for beyond the base and I've ordered a bunch extra so hopefully not many more big orders. So far I am at around 250 dollars in bricklink orders for this MOC + 400 dollars in 2x Lego Orthancs for all the black bricks etc. Another 100 dollars and It will be my most expensive MOC ever. My Department Store MOC cost me 750 dollars. I will maybe take some pictures of the base revisions ive been making the last 3 weeks with a comparison to the official model. Its looking lik4e the base may be between a 48x48 and 64x64 stud footprint.

That is odd because we have two in the Denver metro area...

It is strange. I have three LEGO stores within a 40 minute drive, in addition to a store that that specializes in retired LEGO sets about 10 minutes from home. I travel pretty regularly throughout North America (Reno in a couple of weeks!) and official LEGO stores are never in convenient locations.

I remember the movie, but I don't remember that part (pun intended). I remember Emma Stone. :)

Did you watch the PG13 aka made for TV verison? Thats like a totally different movie.

Superbad Unrated is LEGO (godlike)
Superbad PG-13 is Megabloks (you get what theyre going for but it doesnt quite work and feels cheap and uninspired)

There is something wrong with this MOC, I can't quite put my finger on it. If this is not the appropriate thread let me know.

Check out his feed for the other photos of the spaceship which shows it in ummm...different modes.

If you look at other pictures, this is kind of so he could get a sexual favor from a pornstar. Christy Mack posted on Twitter that she would perform oral sex on the person who made her the best LEGO creation that she could put in her house.

Ewww. Way to subvert a wholesome hobby. I'm no prude but this seems a bit grimy.
