Lets vote: Princess Toadstool or Peach?

I never understood this, when did her name change to Peach? is this a territorial thing like Vega being Bison in Street Fighter?

Why sir, I think it's because you yourself a homosexual gamer.

Yes, he's that clever.

*shrug*

I really don't know.

I think her name was always Peach in Japan, then Nintendo decided to call her Peach when Mario 64 came out in the US?

Either name works for me.

Yeah but is her official name Peach Toadstool?

In Mario 64 she signs her name Princess Toadstool Peach in the very beginning. Like shoplifter said, Princess Toadstool is the title, Peach is the name.

Kinda like Mayor of NYC, Bloomberg.

I just always assumed it was Princess Peach Toadstool. Like a first name, last name thing.

I gotta go with Peach.

I'm still unclear about Bowser/Koopa though. We say Bowser in America, and Japan says Koopa (according to Smash Bros Melee character select in the different languages).

He was originally called koopa here as well, no idea why it was changed to bowser.

I'm sticking with my reasoning for that too, and assuming it's King Bowser Koopa.
This makes sense considering how many Koopas there are. Hell, it doesn't even really make sense to call him Koopa.

I assume Miyamoto just got sick of having the character have two different names everywhere, so he had NOA use the original character name. NOA seems content to use "Princess Peach Toadstool" as the full character name (there were a couple recent games which referred to her as BOTH Peach and Princess Toadstool).

NOA gave King Koopa a "first name" when they released SMB -- someone probably thought calling the enemy Bowser was funnier.

I call her "Princess Toadstool".

I also call Pit "Kid Icarus".

I call Eggman "Dr. Robotnik".

I call Bowser 'King Koopa'

I call the mushroom people "Mushroom Retainers".

I also say Mario's last name is 'Mario' and that he's a plumber from Brooklyn.

So :P

Shiggy invented "Jumpman" for the Donkey Kong (bad Engrish for Stubborn Monkey) arcade game. He was a construction worker. (The girlfriend was Pauline.)

NOA decided to give him more personality, so they said he was a New York construction worker, and made him an Italian-American named "Mario", which was the name of the former landlord of the guy who suggested it. Shiggy heard the name, and liked it, so he adopted it.

Shiggy invented "Luigi" to be Mario's brother, and had them become plumbers for the Mario Bros arcade game.

For Super Mario Bros (Famicom), Shiggy invented "Princess Peach" and "King Koopa".

Princess Peach was the Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, and NOA was worried that some local wackos might get upset at the idea of a blond-haired blue-eyed group of nobles ruling over an "inferior" race of sub-humans, so they renamed her "Princess Toadstool" to suggest that she was actually a member of the Mushroom race. She just happens to be beautiful by Mario's human standards.

NOA renamed King Koopa to "Bowser", just to be creative, and because of the spikes and collar he wore.

In Mario 64, Princess Peach wrote Mario a letter, and clearly signed it "Peach". This was part of a graphic, and not text, so NOA consulted Shiggy about changing it, and Shiggy concluded that Peach should officially be called "Princess Peach Toadstool" (title, given name, family name) in all regions, and that Bowser should be "Bowser, King of the Koopas".

As for my opinion, "Peach" is sexy and wins.

Peach is my wife.

On a completely different note seeing the word repeated 20 times in this thread made me realize something.

Toadstool

Toad stool

haha

I'm kind of partial to Princess Toadstool, myself. Only because it's the name I grew up with in the Mario games. Her simply being called Peach is a relatively new thing, and I fear change.

A Toadstool (one word) is a poisonous mushroom.

Wikipedia: Amanita muscaria

I prefer Princess Toadstool because that was what I originally knew her as.

Besides, it just makes more sense... It is the Mushroom Kingdom, not the Peach Kingdom.

Yes, but she's unusual for a Mushroom Kingdom inhabitant.

Her father probably named her "Peach" when he saw her silky pink skin and strangely peach-shaped... ... ahem...

What were we talking about again?

Hasn't she always been called Peach in Japan? Wasn't that one of Nintendo's efforts to unify everything internationally? (Along with N64's design.)

If that's true, and I heard that it was around the time 64 came out, I now imagine it would have been because Peach ??? is far easier to katakana-ize than Toadstool ??????... blech

Don't tell the original poster. He's OLDSCHOOL!

Peach > Toadstool

Toadstool just sucks.

On that note:

Rockman > Mega Man

Dr. Robotnik > Eggman

Blues > Proto Man

Resident Evil = Biohazard

Castlevania > Dracula

Pancakes > Waffles

King Koopa kidnaps Princess Toadstool

fuck anyone who says differently

Haha yeah up until Smash Bros Melee I called Bowser just "Koopa." He was always just King Koopa to me, I have no idea where the name Bowser came from.

Of course, this made things confusing when playing Super Mario Kart....

Also, I didn't even realize Peach was her name when I first started playing Mario 64... you know how she writes a letter about baking Mario a cake, and then signs it 'Peach'? For a long time I thought that was the type of cake she was making for him :o

Toadstool all the way.

Here's an odd question. Does anyone know if Bowser becoming Koopa's name in the west had anything to do with the singer from the greaser revival band Sha Na Na that shares the same name? They kinda resemble each other to me.
