A tongue piercing is by far the easiest to take care of and, in my opinion, hurts the least. Yes, even less than ears. It heals super fast and the aftercare is super simple.

Yes. You'll end up doing it when you first get it pierced to switch to a smaller "rod" (I forget the technical term) once the swelling in your tongue goes down, and you'll be able to change the top-piece that connects to it as well.

However, and I do have to be honest, it can make certain things a lot more interesting, such as kissing or other things you do with your mouth
It won't turn a lousy kisser into a great one, far from it, but a good kisser can learn to become a great kisser if they know how to use it.
When you first get your tongue pierced they use a barbel that is fairly long to accommodate to the swelling that our tongue will have during the first 2~3 days. The tongue can swell up to 3 times it's original thickness so it needs to have some room for it to do it's thing otherwise it could heal very bad, cause a lot of pain and other small things we don't want.
After about a week or so you can go back to your piercer, once the swelling has gone down, and they will replace it with a shorter length barbel that fits your tongue better. It's fairly important to do this because a barbel that's too long can easily get shoved between teeth while chewing and trust me that when steel meets tooth, steel wins every time.
Tongue piercings usually heal in about 4 weeks since the tongue is just a big thick muscle and after the healing is complete then you can swap it any way you want to. Some people like titanium jewelry , others like surgical steel and others go for acrylic or bio-flex.

I removed my tongue piercing and labret. The latter first because I got lazy on cleaning. As far as tongue I kept biting on the piercing when I eat and I kept playing with the piercing a lot so it was damaging my teeth lol
Also it was embarrassing getting the tongue pierced because the hot guy couldn't get a good grip because I was salivating too much. It happens when I leave my mouth open apparently.

I still want to keep my hair long but I want to experiment with different cut styles and probably some layering with different colors.
It can be fun for sure. Another thing you can try is the old "hot & cold", where you keep something warm such as coffee, tea or milk and some ice cubes nearby when you make out with your partner. Yeah, it's absolutely personal and that's how it should be in my opinion. My first tattoo was all about me finally being able to get away from an abusive situation in which everything from the way I talked, walked, ate, dressed or looked like was tightly controlled and any deviations were completely unacceptable.

Woo! Congrats! Like DOWN (or are we still saying PANTHEON? I'm confused how this works) said, it's really bittersweet, definitely. For the friends who really meant a lot to me in high school, I've found ways of keeping in touch. And even the ones for whom distance ended up being too much of a barrier for consistent contact, the few times we've seen each other have been so wonderfully positive that I know our friendship remains strong and that we're still there for each other. I think you'll find ways to stay close to your best friend(s) and will make some new friends, too. Congrats again!
