Lightning gets Aeirth (FFVII) costume for Lightning Returns

For ARR, can one just buy it and play it like a regular FF? I wouldn't need a subscription or whatever to enjoy the single-player mode would I?

Of course you have to pay subscription after "free" time is over ( 30 days if I'm not mistaken ) it's still a subscription MMO.

At least XIV: ARR turned out really good - and given that most of the staff on that project are new or worked on games like FF11 and 12... anyone who wants something different should definitely check it out. You won't feel embarrassed by the dialogue at least.

I bought it when it originally released a few years ago, and one of my major issues was the ...clunky/funky cutscenes. I mean, my character would just sit there with his mouth agape and a thousand-yard stare plastered on his face. It was really off-putting and I didn't care for it at all. I played a bit of the recent beta, but it seemed like the cutscenes were as awkward as ever. Has this changed at all? Are there plans on changing it?

Also, no, it is entirely an MMO. There is no offline or single-player aspect.

There's no single player mode. There's a storyline, which can be mostly enjoyed alone minus the dungeon and boss fights where partying up with other players is required, and it can be completed in the free month that comes with purchasing the game. The last stretch might need some grinding.

Thanks for clearing that up. Somewhere along the way I got muddled about there being a single-player aspect.

Is it wrong that, as a person who's never played a XIII game, I would totally buy this if it was just a dress up barbie simulator. :p

reping dat fabula nova all day erryday nah mean cuh

etro 4 lyf niggas

I'm picturing this in my head and....amazing lol.

Whenever FFXV comes out I'm going to make a YT video with me holding the game after waiting in line for it saying the bolded. :P

EDIT: I want to make a LR gif saying "Etro 4 lyf niggas!" now...

If you went back in time to yourself playing FF7, would young you believe that future FF fans would hate games based upon a COSTUME?

A costume that is OPTIONAL?

Shit, not only I'd think they were batshit crazy, but I would've probably fainted from excitement at the idea of this. FFVII was almost an untouchable god-like game to me in my youth. I remember for like a year I'd draw nothing but art related to FFVII. I wanted anything that had FFVII characters in it. I wanted to play Engereix or whatever its called solely because of the FFVII characters. I think the only other gaming series that affected me that much back then was Pokemon...

People hate this game, not for its costumes, but because Lightning is in it. It also doesn't help that it's got XIII in the name.

No, I was too busy arguing on gamefaqs why VII didn't ruin Final Fantasy and VI lovers are nutjob fossil heads that aren't willing to accept anything new.

History does repeat sometimes.

Can't wait for the (possible) reviews. "LR is a great game. It's too bad it stars Lightning".

I'll probably share the same feelings if the game is good (which is sort of looks like so far)? Still, I can get used dressing Lightning up, I shant lie about that. It'll be weird the first few times, but eh, you learn to love or something. She's like a rose 'n all that...

My only concern for this game is the time limit. I despise the Dead Rising / Dragon's Quarter-like time limits in games. Hate them with a passion. The only reason my hype didn't deflate almost immediately from the announcement is because I'm pretty damn fond of the FFXIII series and I love Lightning and I hope Toriyama make the time limit not shit like every other game that implements that BF:DQ shit.

Dragon Quarter's mechanic was less of a time limit and more of a "you probably should use the dragon when you really need it" check (yeah, it goes up over time normally, but one would have to spend quadruple the amount of a normal play through to let it run out that way). It seems like it's more Majora's Mask, albeit seemingly without the ability to actually reverse time.

Is nothing sacred!?

but seriously, LOL WOW.

I dont mind I guess....thinking of getting this day one
No its not because I love Aerith ;-;
Might as well finish the 13 saga since im basically halfway there.

Is Lightning Returns being completely tailored to the Japanese audience? Is that who these costumes are for? Why would they do this? Doesn't the majority of Final Fantasy's sales come from outside of Japan. Or is it this the head guy fulfilling his own fantasies regarding the character?

Best name ever. Fun fact. ExDeath is actually a shortened form of ExDeath's full name. Exceeding Death. Referring to the fact he could only ever be sealed away. It was only until the sealed demons were split apart and within the Void could he truly be killed.

Or he went to Eorzea.
