Lightyear | Teaser Trailer

Why does a fucking Buzz Lightyear movie look more exciting than anything Star Wars for the past 7 years.

Because Star Wars has been $hit for many years, so absolutely anything will look better, but also, Lightyear looks really good in its own merit.

He is a toy in the past based on a hero in the future since the technology Buzz is using does not exist when the toy story buzz lightyear toy exist.

I remember when they announced this that they said that Buzz Lightyear was based on a character from a show or a movie in Toy Story universe, not an in-universe real person.

This Buzz is the MOVIE that the toy Buzz is based on.

That simple.
That makes total sense and what the director pitched but there seems to be some mixed messaging.

The action figure in Toy Story is essentially based on an adventurous test pilot, so this new movie will explore who he really was, and how he got famous enough to warrant becoming the most popular action figure on the market.

OK fuck, I had no idea I wanted this so much. This looks awesome. Don't fuck it up, Pixar.

Tim Allen is Buzz. Not sure what this is. A reboot?
Chris Evans is the "real" human Buzz Lightyear. The toy is an action figure based on this real person.

Yes, we now have a Toy Story Cinematic Universe.

I didn't know I needed this, but I do now. And using Bowie, as cliche as it is, ... *chef's kiss*. Fantastic editing on that trailer too and not revealing too much.

I don't care if going to see it is giving the Mouse even more money. I need to.

For the longest time I thought it was 'Buzz Lightgear' though.

I am going to have a hard time with Tim Allen not being the voice of Buzz.
They're giving a lot of BS excuses but we all know why he isn't voicing Buzz:

Disney (ABC) had already cancelled his sitcom despite its very high ratings.

If you bought a Buzz Lightyear toy it was Tim's voice on it so this reasoning of saying his voice is different from the toy in this new movie is nonsensical and beyond.

I’m sure they are. I’m not really interested in hearing them. Buzz Lightyear will always sound like Tim Allen to me. Obviously this is a movie for kids, so I’m not going to throw a fit or anything. But the nostalgic part of me is a little disappointed.

Like I said, real life Buzz toys are voiced by Tim Allen. And if you're saying they're not related at all then why call it Lightyear and have the character look exactly like Buzz? So he can look exactly like him but can't sound like him for some reason... 🤔

People are entitled to their disappointment. Disney can do whatever they want for whatever reason they want. But people get to feel however they feel about their decisions. It’s still just a kid’s movie, so I don’t think anyone is getting too bent out of shape about it.

Pretty sure tim allen and tom hanks are like 90 years old and still voice Buzz and Woody in toy story movies. the 4th one came out not too long ago.

Huh. Not sure how the story works in this one but color me interested. At least it is more actiony. Am I the only one that thought the cat was voiced by Hanks? I never watched that Buzz Lightyear cartoon show but does any of this scan from that?

I have a 100% certain hunch that Buzz gets home and his dad is voiced by Allen. Or his son now all grown old (cue TEAR JERKER OSCAR MOMENT).

Well they've announced a Santa Clause mini-series with Tim Allen a few weeks ago...

What are people gushing on about? Is it just the premise that it’s about the person that Buzz was based on?
I think the idea is that the toy is based on a movie. Andy saw it and then wanted a Buzz Lightyear toy. This is that movie. Buzz is still a fictional character in that world.

So in the Toy Story universe, Star Command and Buzz Lightyear are real things?
Apparently so. When it was announced Chris Evans tweeted that “This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on”

Oh ok, that makes more sense. I thought this was going to turn out to be a cartoon in the Toy Story world

If this was supposed to be an 80's? era movie then I would have rather Ed they leaned hard into that like Ed Wood's Plan Nine or something.

So is this gonna end with Andy leaving the theater with his parents and then his dad gets shot in the back alley?

Oh for fucks’ sake, how many times do we need to rehash Bruce Wayne’s parents getting shot?!

…wait, we’re talking Toy Story here. Sorry, my bad.

Director said this:
"'Set in the world of Toy Story' is kind of weird. Another way to get at it, it's a straightforward sci-fi action film about the Buzz Lightyear character," MacLane, who co-directed Finding Dory and multiple Toy Story shorts for Pixar, tells EW over Zoom. "In the Toy Story universe, it would be like a movie that maybe Andy would have seen, that would have made him want a Buzz Lightyear figure."
