Ben Carson says President Barack Obama is a psychopath.

His comment came in an exchange between the neurosurgeon who's likely to mount a bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination and his chief adviser, Armstrong Williams, captured by a GQ reporter on the night of this year's State of the Union address.

Williams had said Obama looked "elegant" that night.

And Carson responded: "Like most psychopaths. That's why they're successful. That's the way they look. They all look great."

Later in the exchange, Carson accused Obama of knowingly selling the American public "a lie."

"He's trying to sell what he thinks is not true!" Carson reportedly said. "He's sitting there saying, 'These Americans are so stupid I can tell them anything.'"

Carson has also compared Obama's signature health care law to "slavery," and said homosexuality is a choice because some people enter prison straight and leave it gay.

Looks like Ben is trying to out crazy Cruizmissle Ted by going for even more batshit crazy Obama hating. Oddly enough many of his positions more closely mirror those of a psychopath than his likely opponents.

Also worth a laugh, according to Forbes surgeon's like Ben are members of the 5th most likely profession to attract psychopaths.

Going through the checklist It would hardly surprise me if Ben is so quick to label Obama as such because he is one himself.

It kind of scares me that GOP candidates are starting this far right.

Because, seriously, if this is where they're starting, I'm scared to see how far they'll go when they're in the middle of a pitched race.

Interesting strategy... It seems that GOP candidates are trying to out-crazy each other.

I guess they know their voting base, eh?

Carson's a nutball for certain, but I think the best policy is to not get too worked over comments by people who have no actual chance at ever being politically relevant outside of Fox News interviews. They say things like this because of the fact that they're not relevant - that's the only way they get coverage.

They'll call him every word in the dictionary except nigger.

Well, I think Carson might draw the line there for obvious reasons.

I'm sure Carson knows the Chris Rock bit.

It some ways you are right. But also these guys whip up hateful, racist, and fucking idiot portion of Americans. It is dangerous but they don't care.

When he first announced he was running, I genuinely thought, "This guy is an accomplished neurosurgeon. He's brilliant. He garners respect from people. All he has to do is be reasonable and he has a shot in the primaries."

Nope. The level of crazy this guy has been spewing is off the charts. Whichever GOP member is going to win is again going to have to go so far right in the primaries that he won't be able to make up for it in the general election.

Jeb Bush is gonna look the most sane come the primaries.

Thinking it can all be a ploy to get him the grace of all repubs.

GOP need to chew off the crazy limb of their party like a wolf in a trap. There's no way this party continues on like this, so fucking out of touch.

I think one more loss at a national election and people in the party are going to have to reassert control or actually let the party die as a national party.

They just took total control of Congress. Whether we like it or not, their lying/misinformation/crazy works for their voters.

Just as a note, Carson did apologize for the CNN comment about homosexuality and prison. Some of it was kind of backhanded but the main part was that he said he can't claim to know how everyone forms their sexual identity and he was sorry if he offended anyone. Not surprisingly, people on the right flipped out about it, so I'm sure he's trying to get back on their good side with all these dumbass comments.

Plus, in general, he's just another right-wing loon, only with a very soothing voice.

Being reasonable doesn't work in Republican primaries because both parties have shifted right in the last few decades. Moderate Republicans are too close to where Democrats are at to really pander to the base.

As it stands right now, literally nothing the GOP can do will win them the general election. They basically are reliant on a war breaking out, or the economy collapses, or Hilldawg turns out to have murdered a guy in the 80s.

How does the GOP not realize how desperate of a situation they're in. No one (especially moderates like myself) wants to vote for these hysteric doomsayers.

The only way I can reason how someone who's seemingly so smart would act this crazy is because they've been given money and lots of it.

Shut your mouth, Ben Carson! You can't flame out until after you do the debates. We NEED your faith-based comedic stylings to entertain us at the debates.

The word he's looking for is sociopath and people who live in glass houses should really refrain from throwing rocks.

The thing is the "crazy wing" is pretty much half the party at this point. They simply can't afford to lose the votes since it would destroy any chance at the presidency for decades. It's also the only segment that seems to be growing, which is likely due to Obama and may perhaps fade once the Kenyan mooslum is dethroned.

The moderate Republicans brought this on themselves but sadly we are all paying the price for their lack of principals.

That's more the result of their gerrymandering and district line drawing. There's a reason you have states such as Michigan that have overwhelming Republican majorities for their state legislature and US Reps, and yet they consistently elect Democrats for President and U.S. Senators.

Sad but true.

And when the tides turn (and they will), the party will most certainly be entirely fucked. Unless they make some sweeping changes to their platforms.

Which is why they'll lose, this crazy shit is guaranteed to follow them into the general election. The DNC will make sure of that.

i wonder if the old guard of the republican party are at all frightened or horrified of the monstrosity they've allowed it to become

I felt like Jon Huntsman spent the entire 2012 election in sheer disbelief that he was losing to all the crazy people.

Man ... just leading up to the primaries has been wild. lol

I feel as if the GOP is *desperate* to grab a hold of our country's government before so many "leftist" policies are enacted that it will be impossible for this country to be more traditional.

Amazing, they want to prevent progress... and they are hoping the midterms are indicative of the 2016 elections.*sigh*

They shouldn't call themselves "conservatives" any more. They need to start calling themselves what they really are: Reactionaries.

Oh I think they're not thrilled, especially now that the civil war is on and they are getting challenged and unseated left and right. But they also know that this unholy alliance is the only thing that gives the even the slightest chance of remaining a viable party on the national scene.

Carson is like a funny parody of the ultimate black conservative, but his legitimately insane.

The fact his anywhere near to being described as a 'hopeful' should tell anyone with sense who they shouldn't be voting for.

It really is unbelievable to me that someone can be so successful in such a highly demanding field such as neurosurgery yet be so utterly moronic in life.

I'm a doctor and this guy really makes me sad to have among our ranks :(
