Liking posts on GAF should not be a feature, change my mind

What does it accomplish other than like-whoring and hivemind thinking?

(inb4 "oh, like you're doing right now?")

That dopamine hit you get from someone clicking "nice" on your internet forum post... really lads?

(I like GAF and I use the like feature myself. But I wouldn't complain if it was turned off.)

Naw, it is a good system to help to inoculate the forum against shilling because there are more options than just the generic like. I think there need to be more options.

I think it's a great feature. Often someone says something that hits the nail, instead of just quoting it and saying something like "I agree", it's just a more streamlined system. It's also an interesting barometer for trending opinions here, seeing how many likes a post might get on a particular topic.

Nah, I feel like your take its shallow attempt to not understand the function.

The reaction buttons in my point of view allow to agree to certain posts without actually repeating yourself.

Eg: I like chocolate cake.

Since I like it too, I wouldn't waste a post just to agree. I simply pick the like button and be done with.
The same thing happens with other(not all) reactions. If someone post a real funny joke, post or gif I simply pick the laugh button. No reason to quote him/her and say it was funny.

"Likes" anywhere on the internet in general are a mixed bag, and encourage people's attention-seeking and/or asshole-ish behavior. Edgelords and trolls existed before likes, sure. But these people act even shittier now because they have little armies of sycophants who lap up their output like drooling morons, creating a cycle that encourages the auteurs to go harder.

I do think you should have the option to opt out of the system though, to not see any reactions across the site on anyone's posts if you choose.

Yikes! People are concerned with that? Really? I couldn't care less if people like my posts. I'm just an idiot with a bit of time in my hands so I enjoy a shit post here and there.

I agree that hive mind nonsense is bothersome. People sending snotty little PMs about people trying to influence other manjinas is annoying.

Even if there was a dislike button, I would probably never use it as I don't worry about stupid on the internet. I typically assume people are being stupid on purpose for the laughs.

Didn't somebody ask for this and made a thread on said subject? I think most people agreed that would only cause users shitting on people more than anything.
Blech, it would turn the board into the nerd equivalent of mean girls. A lot of salty manginers crying about someone giving them a thumbs-down. Plus the person doing the thumbs-down would be worse because they actually care what someone else wrote on an internet message board.

We would be Reddit yes.

i like likes. it's alright. just don't covet them and you'll be fine.

thumbs down, that's a bad idea. the internet is already plenty negative. we do not need any more ways to be negative towards one another.

I like having the ability to appreciate posts without having to type out the same acknowledgment.

So long as the heart emoji remains, I'm happy. :) ❤

It definitely cuts down on spam.

Rather then 10 posts that are basically just "first post nails it!", adding a like means someone acknowledged your comment and moved on.

It also means being able to browse more threads instead of being bogged down and having to quote someone just to make a short message.

I know for a fact that some people think that I don't like them or I have them on ignore just because they never receive a reaction from me. The simple truth is I fucking hate all of you.

Can't decide if I want to respond to these 4 assholes right now. They even quoted me so I almost feel obligated to reply. Just give them their reactions and go on your way. Acknowledge them but don't engage. That's the plan.
