inXile entertainment Acquires Console Rights to Hit Internet Game Line Rider(TM)!
Tuesday December 19, 12:00 pm ET
Nintendo DS & Nintendo Wii Games Scheduled for Spring 2007

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Having already amassed a worldwide cult following on the internet, inXile entertainment announced today that it has acquired the rights to the hugely addictive 'toy' Line Rider(TM) and that the popular game will soon be available for both the Nintendo DS(TM) and Nintendo Wii(TM). Since its first appearance on the Web (www.official-linerider.com) on September 23, 2006, Line Rider has attracted over 15 million viewers to date and has spawned over 11,000 video posts on YouTube.com. Anticipated to ship in Spring 2007, Line Rider for the Nintendo DS(TM) and Nintendo Wii(TM) from inXile entertainment will retain all the fun and thrills of the addictive Web version, but will also include new added features.

Line Rider has received accolades from media worldwide. Time.com commented, "Line Rider is becoming one of the most popular flash games on the web," and The Wall Street Journal called Line Rider "Online gamers' new addiction." The Toronto Star noted that Line Rider was "a deceptively simple online game' and stated that it has become "the latest Internet addiction."

"I have been around the interactive entertainment industry long enough to have seen similar phenomenon like Tetris and Bejeweled become massive international hits, and Line Rider has all the elements to do the same," said Brian Fargo, chief executive officer of inXile entertainment. "Line Rider is like a fully animated Etch-A-Sketch® and will be perfect for the Nintendo DS and Wii."

Fargo continued, "The amazing thing is that it has appeal to almost everyone. I've watched 6 year-olds and adults play Line Rider and both were thoroughly entertained and captivated. Easy to pick up and play, and highly addictive, we are very pleased to be bringing Line Rider to video game players."

Described as a "toy" by its creator Bostjan Cadez, Line Rider allows players to construct their own track filled with as many ramps, hills, and jumps as they can imagine utilizing a pencil tool. Once the player is done creating their course, they can send a virtual sledder down the route until he wipes out. The possibilities in Line Rider are only limited by physics and the player's imagination with an almost endless number of variations and replay.

"Line Rider began its life as a project I did for illustration class," commented Bostjan Cadez, who created Line Rider in his native Slovenia. "As much as people see it as a game I think of it as a toy because there is no score and no one wins or loses while playing Line Rider. I'm looking forward to working with inXile entertainment on the new Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii versions as they will bring added gameplay and features."

Singleplayer Ideas:

Action mode where the Rider is already going and you have to draw the lines in real time to guide him to the goal before he falls.

Ink mode like in Kirby DS where you have to complete a level while using as few ink as possible.

Oh wow. GOTY confirmed.

But WFC-Level trading is a must.

But I'll play Line Rider on my Wii dec. 22th anyways.
Indeed :\

I hope they'll distribute this through the virtual console.

For some reason when I saw this thread I thought it was going to be about dot stream and not that silly flash thing :(

Another flash game. Can only wonder how much they plan to charge. I can see the potential with this, but I doubt they plan to change anything.

It would be better if it was real time. Similar gameplay ideas to Kirby Canvas Curse, which I liked, so this could be good.

This could seriously rock hard on DS... uncertain about the Wii version.

They say there's going to be "added gameplay and features", so we'll see.

I'm extremely LTTP, but I just found out about this game yesterday and I was thinking this would work great on the DS. I'm really excited about this. They definitely need to allow you to transfer your line tracks from DS to Wii and back again.

So it's like Action Cross/Elastomania, but you don't get to play? They should port that game instead, let people trade tracks, online leaderboards, would be awesome. :)

Those Line Rider vids are nuts though. :lol

I wonder if this will actually be a "game" or more of a tool ala Electroplankton.

I mean, I can think of some ideas to give this game some goals already. I'd only have to check if they actually endure. :lol

Ok, i just tried this out and it's super cool. My question however is, WTF is the point of releasing a wii version? You can play this game on the 22nd for free on the wii already.

Wow, killer app on the DS, not very sure about the Wii though. Connectivity between both is mandatory. Recording your tracks on the Flash memory and showing them on the big screen is a must. Online sharing through wiiconnect too.

I'm a huge fan of Line Rider...but damn it this is a long and painful wait for the game that needed to be made more than a decade ago.

Never heard of this, and it looks awesome. What is that song on the first vid? It is perfect for something I'm working on.

Man this looks great.

From the comments: "The music is a remix of Tank!, by The Seatbelts (from the anime Cowboy Bebop)"

And WOOT for Action Motocross / Elastomania!!!

Hopefully for the Wii version you can share tracks via Connect24, Elebits style. Not counting on it though.

I had an Al Sharpton friend...Once! Well not a friend really, but we talked a few times. Well one time. Well I yelled out my window "GET OFF MY LAWN!"
oh come on, it's a bloody flash game. you don't want to pay 30 bucks for this shit just to look cool.

go play it online, get bored of it in five minutes and come back to post how it went.

you could even play this on your wii with the web browser, for god's sake

It depends on how its implemented. This is the type of game that could catch on and become super popular.

I am obsessed with it after having just played it for 10minutes. Expanding on this, and making it a full-fledged game could be just brilliant if done right, and well worth the money. Imagine drawing, and animating the background. A chase scene,e.t.c..

This thing could be fun as hell.

The DS version will probably be awesome. The Wii one is perhaps questionable, but still--pretty cool concept behind this game, very original and so forth.

They should make this for PS3. It would be awesome on PS3.

Oh, and you could download your levels to PSP and play it on the go. That would be kickass.

How's this a game? It looks cool for a few secs, but I can't imagine this being fun for any more than an afternoon.
How is it not a game? It's not like simulations without finite goals are unheard of in video games. Maybe you're asking whether it's worth paying for or playing for a prolonged amount of time.

Decided to bump this old thread instead of creating a new one, bolding this to help avoid possible confusion.

Anyway, a new Line Rider trailer has been released at www.linerider.com of either the Wii or DS version (the video doesn't specify). New release date is Spring 2008; for a game as simple as Line Rider, it has been in development supposedly for over a year now. Makes me wonder just how much they're doing to it, seems to already have a graphics engine overhaul.

I missed this thread the first time around. I love the concept and the execution. It's awesome that they dynamically create the environment based upon simple drawn lines. I really hope the music from the trailer is in-game.
