Sounds nice but I have my doubts about the delivery. They can’t even get their PC store working properly but now they’ve created a whole new front end that integrates flawlessly with other stores and will never break when those stores update? I’m very interested to see if they can pull that off.

I'm guessing they relaunch their Xbox app at the same time as the PC. Either way, I seriously doubt the new Xbox will be sold at a loss or with high expectations. Xbox Series is a boat anchor around their neck at this point. MS is done chasing market share.

I truly do believe their end goal is to gradually integrate “Xbox” into Windows entirely so that they can ditch hardware while ensuring previous Xbox owners still have access to the digital titles they paid for.
People who have Xbox libraries will still be able to access them, just on their gaming PC running Windows 12/13/14/Whatever.

Sure I know that's the plan but integrating all that stuff without having full control of the other stores (Steam, Epic, Etc) and keeping it working is going to be tough. Not to mention installing some Steam games installs other stores on top of it so they basically have to be compatible with every PC store. It's a huge task Xbox is undertaking to get all that working and feeling like a console like experience. Unless they are playing very fast and loose with the "console like experience".

I saw this and was debating making a thread on it, especially given that K KeplerL2 posts here with us.
I believe I mentioned before that there will be a moment when someone has to sign off on the big money R&D and manufacturing costs that they will need for any kind of Xbox new gen to happen, and that will be the real moment of truth.
I honestly don't think their business results have earned the chance to make another gen. I think only the fear of a bad headline is making this next gen plan happen at the moment.

I don't think MS is afraid of bad headlines. They've had years of exposure therapy.
They need to give their GP base somewhere to land next-gen. I can't see them getting out of hardware completely. They also have lots of customers worried about access to their digital library. They can't just leave everyone stranded. They'll have to put out something, even if it's just a handheld GP-in-a-box sort of thing.

A new console is not worth all the costs that come with it. If you look closely, they've been actively moving away from their consoles for a good while now. They promote every device being an Xbox, and in a next move they would suddenly announce a dedicated next-gen console. Who would fall for that?
Besides with MS going now all in, which is quite certain after yesterday, on multiplatform there is even less of a reason to buy a next-gen Xbox. Why would you? They already showed not even Forza is sacred, this means the step to Halo and Gears is an easy one. Matter of fact, Forza Horizon is today a bigger franchise than both GoW and Halo. In a way they already chose to port their most succesful game.
You could also stick with Playstation and play those MS games there along with Sony's own output. Think about it, on PS5 you can play both Forza and GT very soon.

Here's the difference. I can basically guarantee you that The Show came to other platforms because the MLB mandated it and not because Sony knew they were fighting a losing battle and in order to maintain any sort of relevancy in the gaming space they needed to become a publisher.
MLB is possibly the worst thing you could ever choose to try to make that argument or joke. Plus Forza is one of Microsoft's Big 3 which would be like Horizon/TLOU/God of War and not a sports title.

Been this way for months. Outside of people who make money off the attention and drama, almost no one cares. Xbox hasn’t had exclusives for like two generations. They want to act like this is earth shattering to Xbox users. Wake me up when they cancel hardware altogether and my only console options are Sony’s horrible user experience, or Nintendo.

Which is crazy cause this was where NFS could’ve evolved to but EA dropped the ball. I’m quite excited to play Horizon this spring as I missed playing it in my 360 days, it was a banger with a killer soundtrack.

I hear ya! To be honest all I care about is that they continue to make Xbox’s and I have a way to play my backlog in front of my TV on new hardware, and gamepass keeps delivering. As long as they keep doing that they can sell their games on whatever they like for all I care.
