Links awakening Remake was a mistake

Very compelling arguments you got there.

LA Remake was awesome. Except for some minor performance issues it's pretty much perfect.

Links awakening Remake was a mistake for a Remake, the original gameboy game along with the Oracle series, played amazing to this Day (we can argue it needed extra buttons because how many times you can pause)

On other hands the only 2 games zelda REALLY need remakes are both NES GAMES, outdated, Hard as fuck, need practically a guide

Those 2 could benefit for a Remake for game play

So what exactly was bad about it?

Ahhh, waking in the morning to a fresh Neogaf thread.

The performance issues really made it hard to play for me. The stuttering when changing areas is really jarring and I wished they could have found a way to patch it out.

Between the performance and just getting bored with it, I was never able to finish it. I beat the original a lifetime ago on my Gameboy Pocket, I may have to take another stab at the remake one day.

I don't have a 3DS or a Zelda themed Game & Watch, so getting the remake was the only option for me. And, despite the OP's hot take, I'm looking forward to playing it.

You were a mistake. Link's Awakening remake was great.

And it DID need the remake. The original had annoying limitations. Two buttons required constant pausing of the game to swap items. And the original had a super annoying feature that paused gameplay to give you a description of the item you just picked up, even if it's the 500th time.
Calm down man

Didn't play it. Wasn't a fan of the artstyle or $30 games being $60. It's a nostalgia game for me, so I'd rather play the DX version.

I love these topics when the OP declares something with a great degree of confidence and the entire site says "STFU".

Myself included. OP, you're wrong.

Loved the remake, but not as much as DX ver when I first played it decades ago.
And that's the thing. I played the DX decades ago. Different time, different expectations and all + my own nostalgia kicking in.
If I played the DX ver for the first time in 2022, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed as I'm already so spoiled by basic modern QoL improvements in gaming.
(In this case, the item inventory)

Something like... say analog stick camera orientation. control. I noticed certain older games have fixed right analog stick configuration.
I was much more forgiving and to adopt to that specific configuration - but these days, very much not... and would get very frustrated for the lack of option to change it.

I mean if a rom hack of the game boy game exists that gives you more buttons, almost like an SNES port would be like, I will gladly switch to that.

In the meantime, sorry, the remake just has too many buttons and QOL improvements for me to go back. Even though I'm still not totally into the art style and it performs badly.

It puzzles me how something would be a mistake for Nintendo, but a good idea for someone to spend time hacking a ROM over. This issue was big enough to romhack but not for Nintendo to solve their own problem?

Guys! Guys… let's keep the discussion on gaming 😆

Anyway, I loved Links Awakening on the switch. But didn't play the original so I have nothing to compare it to. And Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are 2 I've never played so I'd love a fresh coat of paint on those.

It was a boring, overpriced release lacking in any new substantial features.

This remake will eventually need a remake.

Or you know...Make new games..

IMO Nintendo should consult with the experts of GAF before making any game, or else they might end up with successful, critically acclaimed titles like Link's Awakening remake.

After the idea got put in my head I actually spent time looking for a romhack that adds more buttons to old LA. I found other QoL improvements but not this. If OP could "just romhack" this feature in for me I would be very much obliged.

The only mistake was the framerate of the remake.

OG was 60 fps
The remake should also be like this
