TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Great news! The game everyone has been waiting for is now Pro Enhanced!

Shadow of the Colossus could use a patch. I know it's PS4, but if I could play 60fps in that Graphics mode that would be awesome.
You could probably do that on a base PS5. Bluepoint has been ignoring the game for years, I don't think that's changing now.

Next year will be the real showcase of ps5 pro capabilities since most games next year will be build with ps5 pro in mind and PSSR ML is much more updated and evolve by that time. Can't wait for GOY, Death Stranding 2, GTA 6, Wolverine, Blue point and Neil Druckmans new game, FF7 remake 3rd and final chapter, Stellar blade possible another expansion or DLC, etc.. Good thing my plan Ps5 pro purchase is for next year.

I honestly am losing the rest of respect i had for Digital Foundry. They constantly fail at analyzing the most basic of basics and are more worried about enhancing images 10 times, like that's what i'm gonna see on screen.

So they didn't notice any of this when making those hype videos for FFVII Rebirth or TLOU2? We needed the console to be released and normal users to pick up on actual issues you see as soon the game is running?

I seriously think there isn't a single media outlet out there that we can rely on when talking about visuals.
DF will never say it but the business was built on platform wars and now channel / video engagement is so important they’ve doubled down.

I felt like I was in the twilight zone watching their AWII video. The game is very impressive looking yet they cherry pick the absolute worse case scenarios while also zooming in 4x to make issues seem even worse.

It’s been going on as far back as the PS4 Pro. I remember them going to a crowded intersection getting full wanted level and doing doughnuts in their car to fill the screen with alpha smoke to drop the framerate as much as possible…

The only current member of staff I can stand are Rich (who’s more of a host now) Tom and Oliver. Alex and John are unbearable for different reasons.

Can we trust this user? Really hope its true. It would be awesome to get some word from Sony about how fast they can iterate/improve PSSR, it seems like there are tons of versions coming in? Hope DF can use some of their sources to clarify.
He's a dev working on games getting ps5 pro support so I say yes

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.

This confirms a rumor by MLID from two months ago:

*PSSR just got an update from v9.0 to 9.4 (it had image quality issues) and uses 250MB of RAM"

So devs still working in games engines with an outdated version of the PS SDK will get the worse version of PSSR. They'll have to upgrade to a newer SDK (and hope that nothing breaks) if they can. UE4 devs seem to be stuck with the bad PSSR version for the moment.

It’s almost as if they were not aware prior to release of the patch..
I imagine many of the patches were rushed jobs to launch day one. Maybe it wasn't tested properly or they did know and decided to launch first and fix later. Still, they managed to get the performance right which is probably the toughest part seeing the other versions so I do have a little faith they'll eventually fix it.

Digital Foundry has released their analysis of Silent Hill 2 on their Patreon :

Performance mode uses 900p and quality goes to 1080p, both fixed. Which explains why the Lumen reflections are so low res, they reduced the original resolution to accommodate PSSR budget by a lot.

Lumen GI also probably relied on internal resolution so it looks worse. On top of that we get the same problems as PSSR seems to be a bit problematic with low resolution so it's flickering like hell just like Star Wars Jedi Survivor. PSSR does provide a cleaner image.

Honestly i'm just wondering how these patches made it through QA without a single person noticing how much worse these games look.

Why these studios choose to necessarily use PSSR if their integration into their games is poor, whatever the reason?

Why not just keep the existing modes and use the additional power of the Pro's GPU to increase the resolution or settings. This is exactly what some studios are doing by not using PSSR.

This is something I always wonder, especially as fan of Hunt: Showdown on co sole for example. Every single time they patched anything they'd introduce some massive other issues that players would see within like two minutes of booting the game up and every time without fail devs were like

Excuse Me What GIF by Bounce

"We are looking into it and trying replicate the issue"

Meanwhile gun models aren't loading for two months.

You said what I said many time in a different thread with many games.

This must be something fundamental wrong with the patch or the earlier version of this game on the pro.

How the fidelity mode going from average 1400p to 1080p here make sense unless you do hardware RT which it does not, and it is a fixed resolution too. Even so, PSSR is still not cost this much, just look at AW2. The fidelity mode has RT at the same resolution as the base PS5 with some graphics improvement too.

Does DF question how bizarre and unusual this is? The cost does not make a one bit of sense.

Also, I hope John run the unpatched disc version and put up the comparison in the video, otherwise what a missed opportunity. I bet it is the best version now with more stable frame rate snd it stay mostly in the upper bound of the resolution.
