Well that does it for me. I'm done with gaming PC and Xbox. Only sticking to Apple and Sony now for gaming. Nintendo has well way behind on graphics so that's why I don't like them. But beyond the whole Gears of War thing, gaming PC and Xbox have no point for owning at all anymore. Every single game I own on Steam I already own on a PS console, other than just 3 are PC exclusives. 137 of my Xbox games I already own or can buy on PlayStation consoles. 19 of them are still Xbox exclusive, but of course that number will continue to go down as Microsoft is selling there games on other consoles now. and as I've said before on Neogaf over 10 times now, I own over 500 games across PS12345. Microsoft is like Sega with consoles and PCs. A big failure. I have had nothing but tons of issues on Windows 11 and my Xbox Series X. It never ended, it never stopped, problems just kept coming and coming forever and ever and ever, freezes, crashes, slow downs, black outs, blue screens of death, it's happened to me over 50 to 100 times now across Windows 11 and Xbox Series X combined. I'm done with Microsoft forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus fuck, does this mean we don't have to listen to your bullshit again?

Without online portion. This will be a complete waste.

Overdose of Gears, one won’t be able to recover from.

I say, just play Gears 5 and be done with it. Play its online portion if more Gears is needed. It plays so much better than old ones, makes them obsolete.

But, online part from older games can be interesting. If its there, will play that.

I’m hoping it’s proper remakes and not just a rerelease collection. Gears 1 is among my fav games of all time, if they can push that up to UE5 with everything intact but properly upgraded visually to 2025 standards it’ll be a game of the year contender for me. It still holds up, minus the slow walk talks and invisible lines for new enemy spawns which is old school.
Perfect timing for Gears 1-3 too. No woke nonsense here!

It’ll be interesting to see how PlayStation-only fans react to these games, 2 decades of downplaying, can there still be some hype?

Remaster, as well as TLOU Part 1, Until Dawn, Halo Collection.
They will probably update to UE5 and add new assets.

The first three are the best one's anyway. 4 and 5 are boring as hell
I liked 5 a ton besides the empty transportation segments, the combat areas were great with new mechanics with Jack and cool new enemies for the IP. The under the ice lab was amazingly designed.
The choice was pure stupidity though… I really hate what they did there. Replayed to get a better ending. Hivebusters DLC was solid too.
9/10

4 was… strange. Felt like a whole different game until the final stretch. But it still had some cool moments.
8/10

Seems unlikely without a PC release also. I know the source is supposed to be inside Sony but lack of anything about PC makes this a little suspect.
The leak does not say this is a PlayStation exclusive. The only platform it sems to exclude is Switch 2.

I will always feel that the game ending on the image of an angry, vengeful Marcus Fenix, who looks like he wants to burn it all down, is the better ending choice.

The world of Gears is not a fair world, and the other choice does not fit the dark, depressing nature of the games as the audience simply wouldn't feel the impact of it enough. I'm sure they know it would make for a much, much better storyline, but I'm worried they are going to let fans pressure them into the nicer, neater ending so that everyone is happy.

That’s what they wanted you to choose, but for me it was too dark, he looked completely broken and I felt like he had been through enough already, and it’s a plain boring story to continue on, would just start another vengeance arch and they already had that going with Kait. Plus JD was the more interesting and complex character, Del was just a random nice guy, extremely shallow. So I replayed and chose the other option.

And that’s exactly why JD dying is the better choice. It is a good gut punch to compliment his redemption arc of being a better soldier instead of a hothead (like he was in part 4) and it’s the opposite of the typical ‘father dies, son takes revenge’ plot which they are probably going to pull if JD lives. They would also have a chance to flesh out Del more and also make him feel extremely guilty for what happened. I think having a completely broken and furious Marcus would cause a rift amongst the group as he would go on a tirade, which would end up as a better, more conflicting plot, as he would want to simply kill everything rather than bargain or make a deal.

I’m thinking they could have something great on their hands where you the player are left in the end thinking if Marcus was right in all of his actions. Sort of like how a person would feel conflicted with staying on course and killing the reapers in Mass Effect 3, regardless of the end result and how many die. But, it’s whatever, the fans are probably going to win the devs over and have JD live, which means the typical thing of Marcus probably dying.

Short version: We have to agree to disagree on this… We’re going to waste both of our time here otherwise, because we’re miles apart here lol

Longer… Just so I can explain my thoughts.
I can say this though, on one thing we can agree. Marcus can not die. That’s like killing Joel. I would literally drop the IP. Marcus IS Gears of War for me. It’s why the E-Day trailer nearly got me to shed happy tears. It’s one of my most hyped games ever. Only beaten by The Elder Scrolls VI. And it’s just because I like Marcus so much that I couldn’t deal with JD dying and seeing Marcus crushed at the end. The man has been through enough, already lost his wife and best friend, essentially lost his son too but they finally started reconnecting again and that’s something I wanted.
And Del is like some HR designed DEI hire, probably the most boring nothing character in the whole IP, he’s just there to have Kait or JD talk, pointless character and I have zero interest to see him fleshed out.

I'm afraid you're probably right in what you're saying here. I was truly hoping this conversation would not veer into the usual direction of any culture war talking points (as they normally stifle any creative discussion like this) and that we could simply discuss the writing and character quality as they are presented in the game.

Regarding the first section of your spoiler I will say this: Normally, most writers don't let you have your cake and eat it too. I guess we will see if these writers do.

Yeah sorry for that comment but they were pulling all the strings they could to cover all western trope bases on 5, and I’m just sick of it all. And with that we can end this talk to not pollute the thread further or risk spoiling for those who’re still waiting for their first taste of this awesome IP.

I will finally be able to play Gears 2 & 3.
I love the core of Gears so much that even Gears 5 was amazing, especially the travelling section.

Gears 4 if could only solve the enemy problem which made every bullet shot an un-fun experience. Terrible decision and started the less GORE direction of the franchise.

The skiff was fun for 5 minutes and during the storm. But I played some of it on a triple screen setup made for racing, then it was cool. Otherwise I just thought those segments made it feel empty.

Gears 4 is a strange outlier in the IP. Almost plays like a tower defense game at times. And what’s up with the mech segment???
But the final stretch was great and felt like a return to proper Gears.

4 was my least favorite mainline game, but it had some incredible segments. I remember the entire mansion section was awesome.

It will still likely have COOP, which includes horde mode. Deathmatch wasn't as popular as those modes.

I agree it sucks, but it isn't quite as bad as people make it out to be.

Yet.
