What is Brian Jonestown Massacre like? I rather like their name, and they're playing here next month. I'll probably go (if I have time/money, of course), but I don't know what to expect. I could just seek out its soul, but I'd rather hear a recommendation, I'm weird like that! :)

Oh man, you HAVE to take advantage of the opportunity to see them. If for no other reason but to see what happens at the show. They're notorious for getting in fights with each other, getting in fights with audience members, arrested, etc etc. Plus they might play stuff from their new album.

It's hard to describe their music, but it's really great stuff. Just download their albums from their website. They're very anti-label so they're on their website for free.

I just may do that! The night before is Marilyn Manson, and the night after is Ministry... but both are like $30 shows, and I don't dig that much, so I'll probably only for SURE hit this one. It's like $8, in a tiny, ratty, shithole bar. Sounds like a fucking blast.

I'll mp3 the albums fo' sho' in a couple of days here, gotta convince friends to come! :)

I would just like to add that the art in the booklet for Crimes is fucking HOT. I picked it up today, and was thoroughly impressed with how great that stuff is. I'm also totally diggin' the artwork for Audit in Progress by Hot Snakes greatly, but I love Rick's stuff, so that was kind of a given.

Dear Sonic Youth,

Please make me not like you somehow, so I can someday get back to actually listening to other new bands once again.

Respectfully,
Diablos

Everyone must hear this album. If only for songs like "Disappearer" which is just amazing and "Cinderella's Big Score" which may very well be one of the Youth's best songs. MAF, stop listening to The Bends and pick up Goo and Dirty by this band. SY has had an influence on Radiohead believe it or not. And the guy that produced Dirty is Butch Vig, your boy from Garbage.

Someone on the first page drew my attention to the fact that there is a new DJ Krush album, so I went out and got it yesterday and am enjoying the hell out of it.

Interpol/Antics--(Take you on a cruise=best track on the album)
Keane-- (this one came out of nowhere for me, great surprise, loves it)
Kent/Isola--(poped in somethin "old" for a change)
Ambulance--(cool)

Frog Eyes - The Folded Palm = roxxxxx.
Stab Stab Cut Kill - Warmpth EP = One of my good friends' band's EP, and it is so fucking good it hurts, I can't stop listening to it. Here, listen to a sample song: "I Didn't Know." I really want them to hurry it up with their full length. The stuff he's played for me is HOT.

I like it a lot. Um, I don't have any of their prior work to go off of, honestly. I'd heard a lot about them, they played here, and I missed out, so I figured I should check out their record to see just how badly I fucked up. I like it a lot. If you can dig the vocal stylings (which are weird, but I love Jamie Stewart & John Congleton so I can dig on it), it's pretty fucking wild and cool. Thumbs up from meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

But I'd say listen to anything by Ween instead. WEEN FOR ALL! WEEN FOREVER! WEEEEEEN.

P.S: Frog Eyes sound nothing like Ween. I'm just on a Ween kick again, and because they're, well, the greatest band of all time... get on that! If I had a bunch of money, I'd buy The Mollusk for everyone.

Indeed good sir. Someone made a Ween appreciation thread a few months ago and I've been hooked on them since. C&C and Quebec especially.

Good! I have a heart on for Secaucus. It's easier to listen to than The Meadowlands because it doesn't make me want to kill myself.

I really don't like Meadowlands... but for some reason Secaucus makes me want to rock out. It has a bit more of an edge on it.

That brings a tear to my eye. I've made many a Ween appreciation thread in the past, but pretty much see no results. Though the people who DO listen, get fucking hooked. I've been hooked on The Mollusk & God WEEN Satan currently. I need to see them live again.

Meadowlands was my album of the year last year, and is like my second favorite album ever. It kind of hit me at the perfect time, though (ridiculous, painful situation with a girl and my best friend), and helped me through a bunch of shit. You should definitely hunt down a copy of Silver-- it's got some SUPER rockin' tracks, and I don't think many people at all have heard it, comparitively to the last records, at least! :) Abbott 1135 is 6 tracks of pop perfection, as well.

Ween & The Wrens are my two favorite bands. Um. The only bands who I own/would wear shirts of, to boot!

Skylarking - XTC

Just realized how fucking awesome this is.

When it came to XTC, I had only been living on the splendid Drums and Wires and Skylarking believing they were the definitive statements of XTC's split career of spastic pop and harmonious pop. Though I've recently checked out Apple Venus Vol. 1, their 1999 album, and to my surprise the pair still have it. The only drawback is the hippie fantasies are taken to the extreme here. Just thought I'd write a note of appreciation for orchestra 'XTC'.

this damn van hunt album is total SEX MUZAK, its very groovy.
also listening to,
stars - heart
edguy - kingdom of madness (power metal fans, which other edguy albums are similar to this, i mean has a "retro" raw sound? not the overproduced synth stuff that they seem to be doing now)

Cosmic Bus

pristine morning snow
Hot Snakes, Audit In Progress
Q & Not U, Different Damage
The Streets, A Grand Don't Come for Free
Dizzee Rascal, Showtime
Mastodon, Leviathan

I'd held off on the Streets disc because of how quickly Pirate Material got old, but this is just astoundingly good. Hot Snakes' new stuff is great, as expected, but I couldn't find the new Q&NU anywhere, so I'm making do with the last album for now.

So so so so psyched for Ted Leo this week, and the Futureheads finally get a US release the week after, which is good because I've been eyeing the import for so long. And if I'm ordering something, then I feel obligated to toss in Mansun and a preorder for Manic Street Preachers... All of which is not good for my starving wallet. :\
