Little things that piss you off big time on forums.

Memes. Some of them are funny on their own, but it takes the internet community about 24 hours to run a joke into the ground. I mean, there are people that enter threads on GAF to post "go ly dow" or "feed it pizza!" and actually think they're being funny. It blows my mind.

Fanboys. Not strictly console warriors in gaming discussions (although they're some of the worse), but anyone who is incapable of looking at something critically because they have an unhealthy amount of reverence for it. You can always count on them to drag the level of discourse down to that of youtube's comments section.

STOP USING THESE EMOTICONS.

how can you expected to be taken seriously if most of your sentences contain one of thge above.

originally all the simple people in german language boards used XD after 90% of their random sentences that are not even funny.

but recently i noticed "xD" used more and more on gaf and it is driving me insane.
xD is an indicator on my facebook if I can take this person seriously or not, as it happens to be that only dumb people use it.

so gaf. stop using XD and ^^

(and everytime i ask someone to stop using it, a billion "trolls" post it afterwards)

Okay :3

GAFFERS: Cynicism and jealousy prevents them from leading "revolutions in rational thought."
:lol

when that chickdigger guy makes 100s of threads a day.

and people that tell the world that they're putting so-and-so on their ignore list.

Circle jerking by spineless individuals who need to have their opinions validated over and over again by people who think exactly like they do, else their pathetic worldviews are shattered into a million pieces and their "fun" is ruined for the evening. Negativity, watch out! Rainbows, unicorns and fairy dust must rule the day.

Defensive people. Like in a tv show thread, someone says "That episode sucked" and instead of that post being a fart in the wind, the next 10 consecutive posts say "you don't know what you're talking about troll"

This doesn't piss me off, but it's annoying when new information is posted in a thread and people don't bother to read it because they are only interested in responding to the OP. For example, when a thread containing a rumor about a celebrity is posted and then later in the thread new information is posted stating that the rumor is false but you have 30 or more posters still reacting to the rumor in the OP because they didn't read the rest of the thread.

I understand if a thread is hundreds of pages, but when it's in the single digits you should take the time to read what's been posted before responding. And if you don't want to read the whole topic, at the very least read the last couple of pages before you post.

- When people complain about quoting a big image. Come on, it takes under two seconds to scroll past/load 30000 pixels

- Overly PC attitudes in some cases.

When threads ask for people's favorite books/bands/whatever and, instead of posting a list like normal people would do, people post dozens of IMAGES of the cover of books or albums by said persons. Similarly, when asked for their favorite songs, they post youtube links WITHOUT A DESCRIPTIVE TITLE, forcing people to click on the link to see what song they're fond of. Really grinds my gears.

Nothing really pisses me off big time but it irks me when people throw around blanket statements like, "I cannot see how anyone could enjoy that."

Really? No one reason?

Yeah, that's a good one. It's not as bad here as other places, though. GAF tends to do reasonably well with letting people have their opinons ... for the most part.

Threads about tv shows and everyone in the thread watches the new episodes together and when something funny or unexpected happens, the next 10 posts are like "LOL" "haha wow!" "Holy shit"

Its so lame

I don't really have a ton of forum experience beyond NeoGAF so I'll probably be a bit presumptuous in my assertions about the forum world, but if GAF is any indication I really don't like the level of snark that drips from just about any discussion one can have on here. It's like everyone's trying to be that cool cynical guy that has it all figured out, thinks outside the box or is just a cut above everyone else in intelligence. However, instead of adding anything constructive to the conversation, they'd rather just talk shit and smart off in ways they would probably never dare to in real life.

tl;dr: The Internet Asshole Theory.

Did that once - mostly just wanted the guy and the thread to know why I wouldn't be responding to any future posts he made.

But I understand that it comes across as childish, more often than not. As if this guy who's ragging on you gives a shit that you're blocking him - you just validated the abuse. It's mostly just a way to throw a tantrum. If you really need them to know that badly, PM them.

Reading the old lost threads is hilarious because of this.

It pisses me off that I can't see who's quoted me from a dashboard or anything. Because it pisses me off when I quote someone and they never reply.

Memes. Just memes, really.

Haters gonna hate. Image macro spam. /thread. THIS. FIRST!

Juniors who reference some obscure in-joke from whatever board they migrated from. Like they post a picture of some stupid anime character and expect everyone to understand what it implies. Like if someone from GAF went to another board and posted a bish gif or a sunset pic.

lol, this, so much. The funny thing is that when people try this persona out, but lack a certain degree of subtelty, they get singled-out and mocked by the posters who have the persona down pat. It's like the whole "hipster mocks hipster for being hipster" phenomenon, but for dorks.

I agree. If I were king, this should be BANNABLE. I'm not pissed about it, though, just slightly irritated.

Those people who frequent the OT of television shows and games they absolutely loathe just to shit up the thread continuously, season after season, sequel after sequel.

That just really burns me up for some reason. If you hate the show/game to the point that absolutely nothing it does will redeem it in your eyes, you really dont need to keep starting shit and intentionally derailing the threads all year. Go get a hobby.

Shots fired.

grammar Nazis. Not everyone is English speaking environment. If it is that much bugging you than there should be warning do not post if you do not know perfect English.

People who view plainly-worded opinions as an indication of emotional state. "Oh, you're angry." No, I'm just speaking assertively.
People who want to act like this isn't a discussion board, but their place to drop unchallengeable opinions, unassailable by the common forum dweller.

I know one, and it's daft, but whatever- people who post captioned Spider-Man cartoon pics based on shots from the 90s/Spectacular Spider-Man cartoons. USE THE 60S CARTOON ASSHOLES, YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT OTHERWISE

People who go into a thread and ask questions that have been answered recently. I get that some of these threads can get pretty long and nobody wants to sift through a thousand posts before asking a question, but Jesus, at least read the last couple of pages. The Ambassador Games threads had the same questions asked by different people upwards of four times per 50-post page.

People who quote a poster just to insult them over a spelling/grammar mistake and add nothing else to the post. Fuck you, there are people on this forum (and others) who have English as their second or even third language so it's understandable if there are a few mistakes. How many languages can you speak as you are insulting someone just because of a spelling/grammar mistake? Bet it's just the one.
I think this is annoying on a case-by-case basis. Some people quote and slam posts for a few typos like they're a big fucking deal. I am absolutely cool with giving someone shit for a giant wall of text with no capitalization or punctuation and tons of text speak.

In addition, people who view that perceived emotional state as some sort of victory on their part. As in, "Oh, it's okay to be angry that you're wrong". Perhaps we're angry because you're wrong, and can't concieve it?

You must love me and blame space then.

It all comes from our brains. Well my brain and his barn. But that's just because he stores his brain in his barn.

Not really. Alot of people spew their best rhetoric when they're angry.

I'm not comparing Izaya to an internet elitist, if that's what you're implying. I'm saying he's an archetype or ideal that internet elitists strive for. Those who watch Durarara, anyway.

That actually does bother me b/c it makes it more of a pain in the ass to find posts if you ant to reply or keep in mind who said what.

People asking and then answering their own silly little rhetorical questions.

Does this annoy me? Yes. Would I consider putting the person on my ignore list? No. Would I like to see this kind of thing reduced? Absolutely.

GAF seems to almost seep at it's pores with memes and just about everything on your list, hell it's like the petri dish for all that.

Man that's deep... I wonder what GAF would be like without that stuff, seriously.

I'm blown away by this. So, like, do you hate us or just hate admining this place?
