When they get in front, it gives them time to lay down a strip or form a block. He speeds up to give them less time to make those things happen.

i know, but he can also make a turn. and they don't have to do it right in front of him now that they've seen how he reacts.

thanks! I've seen these before -fixed ones in front of parking lots etc.- but how exactly are they "thrown"?

I've read around 36% manage to evade the police but I don't know how accurate that is.

I've seen two of these where they got away. One where he pulled into a parking deck and threw off everyone - police, helicopters - they couldn't find him.

Another was at night and they called off the chase at some point.

That seems crazy high. I can't imagine a scenario where someone doesn't get caught.

I'm guessing the statistic is more like 36% of all "chases" where the first 1 minue is pretty crucial. I'm guessing once they've got helicopters and a ton fo cops after you your chances drop down to near 0%. But before that, you've got a chance if you get lucky.

As mentioned above, nighttime probably helps too.

I seent it. Guy pulled into a parking garage in downtown San Diego. ran out a side door before it could be surrounded. They caught him months later cuz he was a crack head.

This is the most comfortable chase I've ever seen. So laid back.

one awhile back, they called off the chase and just let the choppers follow. he got so far ahead he was able to stop at a gas station. he just gave up there, tho. he coulda refueled and kept going.
