Liveblog thread for 3DS new Nintendo IP announcement (Code Name STEAM)

I mean, Majoras Mask getting all these recent references just seems like too much of a coincidence, fallacy or not. Especially considering that outside of the fan base it wasn't the most popular Zelda. Cough Jeff Gerstmann

As long as its controls are Metroid Prime 1&2 style and not Metroid Prime Hunters style, why not?

I think the 3DS is a great console for a Metroid Prime game.

it's literally a perfect fit. Metroid Prime 1 and 2 only use one analog stick for movement. The layout would obviously be:

Circle Pad - movement
R - Free Look
L - Lock-On

B - Shoot
Y - Jump
A - Missiles
X - Morph Ball

D Pad - Beam selection

Touch Screen - Map and Visor selection

That's it. Perfect, and identical to the Gamecube version in control apart from the Z Button, which is rendered null anyhow as the map would be on the lower screen.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other. Both are fantastic.

Super Metroid is perfectly paced, has superb music and flawless controls.

SOTN has more challenge, better secrets (INVERTED CASTLE!!!!), and a more intricate weapon/upgrade system. And amazing music as well.

they're both so good

Weren't there two Pokken trademarks?

Hey, it wouldn't be a 3rd Party game, right?

Because Weekly Jump just revealed "Final Fantasy Explorers" for the 3DS. Looks like it's a game in the vein of like Crystal Chronicles.

Should I get Majora's Mask on the Virtual Console, or should I wait and hope they reveal MM3D? I really doubt they will reveal it, but there's always a chance...

There's no chance, right?

There's a pretty big chance I'd say. Especially compared to Metroid or something.

For me it's Paper Mario > TTYD, but yeah, both are amazing, Super Paper Mario has a nice mechanic, but for me it was kind of a letdown (uninspired enemies, not much freedom, lackluster plot, felt detached from the Mario world canon). I already heard the minimal story stuff, and that's a major turn-off for me, are there enough secrets, hidden or optional things? By the way SS isn't $10 here, more like € 37,90 (Amazon, the nearest physical store is 1 hour away from me and only has new games anyway), which is around $51... :(

Wow, that is pricey for the game. Is there no craigslist equivalent or eBay option of getting it cheaper? That's really expensive. As for secrets, there are a decent amount as far as memory serves (and scanning a couple of walkthroughs to brush up). I'd say if you can get it at less than half of the price you're currently looking at, I'd go for it. More than that and I wouldn't recommend it, as much as I enjoyed it I can't recommend it at such a high price when you understandably are a bit wary of the game. I do think it's a lot of fun, though, and if you can find it for a good price and are in the mood for a game like that, I would recommend it gladly under those circumstances.

If it's a roundtable, does that mean it's not going to be streamed?

It should be liveblogged, but no, it probably won't be streamed.

Watch it be Nintendo Land 3DS.

Oh, I would be so psyched for that. Nintendo Land is amazing. I'm still hoping for DLC or a sequel.

I'd at least wait till after the announcement today. If it's not announced then, it could be a whole other year. There are other great Zeldas to play in the meantime if you haven't already, though, if you want to hold off a bit longer. (And I do think there's a solid chance they'll reveal it today.)

Isn't Myamoto presenting the game? If so, it's not going to be Metroid. The only Metroid game he had any real involvement in was the first Prime game. And maybe the minigame in Nintendoland.

If it's Majora's Mask it'll have to be something a little more substantial than a straight OOT3D style remake. No way would they spend as much time on that as Smash Bros.

I'd wager it's going to be a new ip.

I'm calling something Mother related, either a remake or a new game.

Personally though, Advance Wars or Metroid and I will go into a positive shock.

Watch it be something no one has mentioned, like Glory of Heracles or Custom Robo.

Funny, I had a random thought yesterday that Miyamoto's "Project Giant Robot" could very easily be branded to Custom Robo. The whole point of the game is that you build a customized robot. It's too perfect.

Why people are taking the Majora's Mask as a hint and not the Bowser Plushie ?

because there's a trend:

1. Aonuma stated they would do a remake after an original 3DS title. That new title happened = A Link Between Worlds.

2. Majora's Mask is on full view in your house throughout Link Between Worlds.

3. Majora's Mask Soundtrack was a club nintendo prize last year for absolutely no reason whatsoever, and was a definite oddity in the selection considering every other released soundtrack ties into a recent game.

4. Grezzo are working on something. No one knows what, but they obviously have an engine ready for Majora's Mask along with the majority of the character models, courtesy of OOT 3D.

5. Majora's Mask included in Animal Crossing, and Bill Trinen and Aonuma have posted images of their characters wearing it.

6 Zelda Williams appeared at E3 2014 on the Smash Bros Stream with a Majora's Mask replica

Majora's Mask was not mentioned at all in any real respect from it's release until last year (apart from Smash Bros trophies and the VC release), and now in the past year, Nintendo has gone Majora's Mask reference crazy.

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys. Guess I'm waitin!

This is the very definition of the Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy. Taking a bunch of separate events and drawing a circle around them to indicate some sort of pattern. What about all the other retro games Nintendo has referenced over the past year? Why aren't we talking about those?

Y'all are crazy.
Nintendo has enough RPGs available for localization on 3DS thanks to third parties (starting with Fantasy Life, then DQ7, Bravely Second, Final Fantasy Explorers, etc) - that they don't need to make one themselves.

I'm putting my money on a 2.5D Metroid game or Majora's Mask remake.

Actually, I'm leaning towards Majora's Mask 3D as well. Not because of any of the reasons you guys have stated, but because every time I begin to replay a Zelda game on its original console, it gets a remake. I began to replay Ocarina of Time on my N64, and they announced Ocarina of Time 3D. I began to play Wind Waker on my GameCube, and they announced Wind Waker HD. I just recently started Majora's Mask on my N64 again, so they're inevitably going to announce Majora's Mask 3D.

Except we're not just stringing together a bunch of random references to the game. Aonuma himself drew attention to them and has made several cryptic comments about these references and how they might indicate if we'll see a remake.

I think the 3DS is a great console for a Metroid Prime game.

Shame the gamecube controls are a massive step down from the wii controls so it's a bad thing no matter how you try and put it (because I think wiimote support is off the cards for a 3DS game).
